5 out of 5 eggsGreat board

Pros: Great options and layout and works great, Fan controls on this are nice, Keeps this system much quieter than my older one it is replacing, Has more fans in the case also but they only speed up when needed which isnt so often with the Z87 chipset.

Cons: Had to do a RMA on the first board I received but the new one worked perfectly.

Other Thoughts: I DID get the first one DOA but NewEgg took care of it and sent me the pre paid shipping label and they were great on the phone. I don't feel I should deduct an egg for the bad one because it is a great board, I've built dozens of systems with ASUS and all of mine have been ASUS and this was the first issue I had

4 out of 5 eggsZ87 minus

Pros: Easy to install, simple instructions. Loaded win 7 home premium x64 easily. Lots of idiot lights and simple bios flash for later. It does support crossfire and SLI if needed and has all the benifits of the pro and further boards minus the wifi, which I dont need. Great board and price.

Cons: Missing all drivers for internet, gave me errors and could not see my router, kept looking for a dial up connection.
Missing all usb drivers and sm controller/usb ub drivers.
Had to goto intel and asus sites from another computer and download drivers one at a time. LOTS OF QUESTION MARKS ON DEVICE MANAGER.

Other Thoughts: I checked to make sure this wasn't just an outdated version in device manager, well, they just weren't there, period. I am happy with the board now, but was not expecting missing drivers from ASUS. First problem in 4 boards from them in 7 years. No real issues with the board so I'm not giving a bad rating.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 6 months.

Pros: Looks cool, works as long as it works, fast as long as it works, nice board for as long as its short lifespan is.

Cons: Failed, short lifespan, Failed, low quality, did I mention it failed? BSOD's, bad BIOS chip...it failed.

Other Thoughts: Originally, I posted a review on 10/6/2013 about a week after I built my brand new gaming system for graphics intensive programs such as SolidWorks and some gaming on the side (I'm a Mechanical Engineer so it had to be powerful, fast, and, most importantly, reliable). The system I built is no slouch with an i7-4770K, Asus Z87+, Corsair Vengeance 1866 16GB, 6TB of HDD space with a 128 Corsair Force GS boot SSD, H90, Gigabyte Windforce GTX760 OC, and more. I did no overclocking because I need the reliability between work and school, I can't be without a machine.

The fact that only six months later the motherboard fails shows me that ASUS was clearly the WRONG choice in motherboards. The ASUS Blu-Ray drive I have is pretty cruddy too. It's loud and slow, mainly. But this is about the board, not that drive.

What happens is I get recurring BSOD's citing multiple things, PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, PAGE_FAILURE_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA, and MEMORY_MANAGEMENT are a few of the BSOD's. There is also an issue with the USB ports not working on 3 separate reboots after BSOD occurences. I had brought it in for diagnosing and the guy working on it updated the BIOS which helped so that now it will BSOD once and I will actually be able to restart it and log in again. Before it would BSOD then continually BSOD on POST, boot, and anywhere in between even in safe mode. In all fairness, there isn't enough characters in this text box to describe the whole problem. I'd be here for a day typing. But with my computer knowledge, I know the board is at fault.

I haven't been able to pinpoint what is wrong with the board exactly but I am 99% sure it is this garbage board after all I've seen and been through. I've narrowed it to the DIMM slots, integrated sound card, BIOS chip, or the CPU socket but that last one is a long shot. It could also be a bad connection on the PCB. Now I'm stuck having to start running through RMA's with ASUS. That does, indeed, leave me with NO computer for weeks.

I think I'm just going to go buy a brand new one of these boards from my local fry electronics, install it, and hope for the best because I don't have time to waste waiting for a refurbished board come back and fail on me like this one. Or worse, have the one I'm using "fixed." At least with my local fry electronics I can exchange it right there for another one instead of having the RMA it with ASUS and waste my time. Hopefully round 2 with this garbage board will be better.

My advice; read these reviews like a bible. I see other boards that are nowhere near as shoddy with better specs for slightly less and MUCH BETTER reviews. Try to steer clear of this junk and get something that won't fail on you in six months.

3 out of 5 eggsDate/Time Issue & Random Problems

Pros: This board is great and easy to use and set up.

Cons: Had random restarts due to "power supply failure" for over 3 months. I had changed out my power supply multiple times to test and the issue still occurred. But last month they released a bios update and no issues so far.

The date and time is always wrong and I have to manually reset. It will change itself back to the wrong time randomly after I fix it though. Tech support has no idea what to do.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

The BIOS/Windows clock should work as intended. If it is not, you may either need to replace the CMOS battery or send the motherboard in to be serviced under warranty. Should you need assistance in this case, please let me know through email. 3556081.

4 out of 5 eggsReal-time clock issue

Pros: Great for any use great and easy to be overclocked. The UEFI Is intuitive and easy to use. The board looks great supports a vast amount of memory manufacturers and speeds.

Cons: Unfortunately after one month the real-time clock began to slowly jump back one hour every 15 minutes.

Other Thoughts: I have been a faithful Asus fan and user for many years and this is the first board I have had to return.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: The graphical Bios is quite nice. The printed manual is useful and well written. 2 included SATA cables were handy.

Cons: Ethernet port was dead on arrival (did not show in Device manager, not activity lights). I returned the board to Newegg, but now they claim it is damaged and will not replace. Weeks after buying I still do not have a working PC.

The on board VGA port does not output (CPU is i5 4670K).

Other Thoughts: I regret buying this product. Qaulity control is just not there. The returns process has been one aggravation after another.

3 out of 5 eggsNot bad..

Pros: -Easy install
-Awesome BIOS

Cons: Strange issue involving RAM. I've got 16GB total (4 x 4GB) of Corsair Vegance, all identical. However the computer will NOT boot if all 4 DIMM slots are utilized. A1/A2 slots seem fine. I am able to boot with two RAM chips (8GB) in A1/A2. But if you were to throw anything into B1/B2 the computer starts up, 4 seconds later turns off, starts up on its own, 4 seconds later it turns off, etc.

I've individually tested all 4 RAM chips using A1/A2 DIMM slots and they all worked fine - so it's not my RAM chips. Something has to be wonky with the B1/B2 DIMM slots or the memory channel. BIOS was already the lastest version shipped, tweaked some of the memory settings under BIOS (disable/enabled XBM or whatever its called) and still nada. I've ran that MemOK! diagnostic - no good.

It's not necessarily a show stopper because everything else works fine and ultimately I could always try throwing 2 x 8GB to make 16GB into A1/A2 DIMM slots. I'm contemplating on RMA'ing the motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Motherboard

Pros: Fantastic Motherboard with a bios setup. Very easy to overclock my CPU with the TPU switch options. Lots of flexibility with onboard 6 SATA Ports.

Cons: No IDE Connector, Serial Port, or Parallel Port. Can't complain too much since it's 2014.

Pros: Board has alot to offer, more then I am going to need.

Cons: Default BIOS seams limited had to swap to Advanced, also Manual made it hard to determine the different SATA chipsets.

1 out of 5 eggsWhat a piece of junk

Pros: None

Cons: Doesn't work
Asus warranty is worthless

Other Thoughts: This was delivered to my door with a nonfunctional USB system. Recognizing the existence of my keyboard and mouse was a sometime thing. I returned it and Asus refused to honor the warranty. Newegg eventually ate the cost but not before considerable effort and shaming on Reseller Ratings. All things considered, I'll think twice or even three times before doing business with Asus again.
