2 out of 5 eggsWorked for a little over two months

Pros: Nice while it worked.

Cons: After working very well for a little over two months, one day it just stopped working. Does not even get to the BIOS splash screen.

Other Thoughts: For two weeks, I have been trying to arrange an RMA with ASUS, with little success.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

I am sorry that you are having issues with the unit. Since you posted this review a few weeks ago, has this case been resolved yet? If not, please let me know through email. I am here to help! 3742029.

5 out of 5 eggsNewegg must've gotten a bad batch

Pros: This board has been running 24/7 in a mid- to high-end machine since December, and it's not stepped one foot wrong for me. It just works exactly as it should. The only issue I had with it was incredibly small: The BIOS version it shipped with wasn't compatible with XMP profiles for memory configuration. However, a simple BIOS update and the problem was resolved. Honestly, this motherboard has been entirely trouble-free for me. I picked this board because I'm still dependent on PCI slots for some components, and this was the best board I could find with two in usable positions (I say two because this board's third PCI slot will be covered up by a dual-slot graphics card). But it's a very solid board for me with a full-featured BIOS. I've paired it with a 4770k and even got some good overclocking out of it. If overclocking is one of your goals, I would look at the Z87-A instead, as it's better equipped for the task. But, if you absolutely need those PCI slots, this is the board to get.

Cons: I suppose I'll count the XMP issue as a con, even though it's an extremely minor one. The BIOS that shipped with it wasn't compatible with XMP profiles for memory configuration, but a simple BIOS update fixed that.

Other Thoughts: I bought this from a local retailer instead of Newegg, but I've had none of the issues anyone here has described with the board. I suspect Newegg simply got a bad batch from Asus, which is unfair, because that reflects poorly on this model, which as far as I can tell, is perfectly fine. I'm hoping more people who need this board are willing to give it a shot, because I've had nothing but a good experience with this board. I use it for photo/video/audio work mostly, and gaming on the side, and this board has left me in no way dissatisfied.

3 out of 5 eggsProblem with bootable add-in cards

Pros: 6 SATA 6gb/s ports. Boots and runs Freebsd and Linux fine.

Cons: Prompts and messages from bootable add-in cards do not display on the VGA monitor port, but do display on the DVI port. This also applies to messages from the onboard Realtek ethernet NIC if PXE booting. Tested with BIOS version 1602 and several add-in cards including Intel Pro NICs and Adaptec RAID cards.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: after i installed the graphics card the screen went black. asus tech support had me make adjustments to bios etc with no relults. then said the card was porably defective. i installed the card in anothe computer and it worked perfectly. tech support finally told me to contact the asus rma department. this mb has serious flaws and the asus response was poor.

Cons: defective board and poor company response

Other Thoughts: no more asus for me. tech support was slow to admit the problem. the company has a poor customer attitude.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

I apologize for the issues you are having with the motherboard. It is bad enough the motherboard was defective, but beyond that, it took a lot of your time just to troubleshoot the problem; when after all, the motherboard was causing the issue. So I completely understand any frustrations you might have.

Moving forward, please contact me through email, and we can discuss this case further. Within the email, please include the serial number of the motherboard and your reference number (3204536).

3 out of 5 eggsGreat for about 6 months

Pros: Works with haswell.
Plenty of sata and fan connectors

Cons: Can't really use top pci port if you have an average size gpu by today's standards. I need two for my wireless adapter and sound card (see below) and can't really fit both in.

All the audio ports stopped after about 6 months of ownership. I've uninstalled and re-installed drivers many times, tried using case ports, and done practically everything I could find online and nothing allowed the audio jacks to work. I bought a sound card which fixes the problem but as said above. It doesn't fit in my computer with my wireless adapter.

Other Thoughts: I might be able to warranty it but I need the computer for school and CAN'T afford to be without it for the month(s) it could take to go through the RMA process. So unless I buy another motherboard, there is no way for me to get this one fixed.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I have heard this card was good.
Probably good for overclocking?

Cons: Board came dead on arrival.

Other Thoughts: This seems to happen a lot with this board.
Hopefully I will be able to come back to this review soon and append my review with some more positive comments.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks great.....until

Pros: This board works pretty good. Haven't attempted OC'ing yet as I've yet to buy a new cpu cooler. I'm running it with an i5 4670k and it's working through everything without ever going over 40-ish C. That may be because of my massive case though. Idles at 30C

Cons: Here's the fun part. DO NOT INSTALL ASUS AI SUITE 3. I made this mistake twice. The first time I did it it crashed my OS so much it became corrupted, this was 2 days after I got all my games downloaded and installed and was too busy with work to do a backup. Needless to say I was pretty ticked off. The second time I installed it (not knowing it was AI suite the first time) I installed did my reboot and windows 7 went completely unresponsive after start up. So after that I thought Ok, AI suite is a Piece of crud. So I popped in my boot image and attempted to repair windows, no dice. Rebooted and use the boot image to do a system restore to 5 minutes before installing AI suite and blamo windows is responsive again.

Other Thoughts: The board works fine. I had no posting or LAN issues, no DoA's nothing. Then again I went to MC to get my stuff. Those processor/mobo bundles are amazing. I went in there to get an i5 3750k and the guy said you know you can get the next gen cpu and board for cheaper...... who woulda known. I did try to use the boards one click OC and it didn't work. But thats fine, I'm sure the old school method will work once I get my new fan.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I am sorry you are having issues with AI Suite. If I may, I would like to help. Please send me the Windows Dump files (when the crash happened) to my email, and I will be able to look into this further. Your reference number is 2925753.

2 out of 5 eggsMany issues

Pros: Well priced, has all the features any normal person would need, came free with 8GB Crucial RAM

Cons: The MOBO has various issues. First, the integrated NIC doesn't seem to work properly. Intermittently drops the network connection. Doesn't fully drop and disconnect from the router but network activity is stopped every few minutes for a 1-2 seconds.

Also some sort of issue with power management. Wiil not accept a shutdown or standby signal. Computer simply shuts off and powers back on.

Tried updated drivers and BIOS with the same results.

Other Thoughts: Contacted Asus - will update review when / if they respond.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

If I may, I would like to help. In regards to the power issues, can you explain this further to me? Does the system turn off and on without a Windows shutdown process? As for the NIC issues, does this issue only happen to this device? At your earliest convenience, please send me an email including the requested information along with any other information that could help me troubleshoot, and I will be happy to help.

Thank you,

Mark

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good firmware and layout. Gets the job done.

Cons: Cheap faceplate, only 2 USB 3 ports on the back panel... nothing major.

Other Thoughts: Can't go wrong with ASUS.
