Streamlined and Feature-Rich ATX UP Serverboard

The ASUS P9D-C/4L provides a cost-efficient serverboard without compromising on performance and scalability. It supports the latest Intel® Xeon® E3-1200 v3 processor family, PCI Express 3.0, and legacy PCI for diverse applications. With all these features, the P9D-C/4L fits great as part of a firewall, gateway, web/printer/mail server, and more.

ASUS Motherboard

The Most Scalable I/O Expandability

The ASUS P9D-C/4L provides PCI Express 3.0 slots and ASUS PIKE support. Additionally, it retains legacy PCI slots onboard to meet more diverse customer requirements. Users can move their existing PCI add-on cards to the P9D-C/4L, and still benefit from up-to-date Intel® Xeon® E3-1200 v3 processors and fast DDR3 memory.

The P9D-C/4L serverboards are built to support up to four USB 3.0 ports, which connect easily with next generation components and peripherals. USB 3.0 transfers data 10X faster than USB 2.0, while remaining fully backward compatible.

High Power Efficiency with Premium Components and Digital Power Control

ASUS-exclusive Beat Thermal Chokes improve voltage regulator power efficiency. They handle greater stress with ease, as a unique fin design results in around 40°F (4°C) lower choke temperatures for added stability, which is increased exponentially by use of highly conductive and efficient gold-treated coating. This translates into minimal-loss power delivery.

Digital CPU power controls work perfectly together to match digital power signal (SVID) requests from the CPU, with ultra-fast sensing and response efficiently delivering precision power. Accurate delivery reduces waste, and provides more stable voltage.

The benefits from these components significantly increase P9D-C/4L power efficiency up to 91%.

Quad Intel® I210AT Gigabit Ethernet

The ASUS P9D-C/4L ships with quad server-class Intel® Ethernet ports with the I210 controllers, which doubles queuing capacity compared to previous-generation Intel® 82574L controllers. This is better for virtualization applications while providing teaming functionality for higher networking bandwidth with better load balancing and fault tolerance. This design greatly reduces data processing bottlenecks during network traffic.

ASUS Motherboard

SATA DOM (Disk on Module) Ready

A SATA DOM is a flash drive simulating a hard disc, which can be used without additional software or drivers. It is particularly helpful within embedded computing systems or thin clients. The ASUS-exclusive design adds an onboard 4-pin power connector and a USB header to make SATA DOM installation simple and easy.

Comprehensive Server Management: ASMB7-iKVM and ASWM Enterprise

The ASMB7-iKVM upgrade kit enables dashboard system health monitoring, remote power on/off and control, virtual media over LAN, and management LAN fail-over support. In addition, the ASMB7 function is based on BIOS-level access, so even if the server's operating system is down or offline, the KVM module can still provide round-the-clock remote monitoring and diagnosis through a user-friendly web-based graphical interface via all major browsers. ASWM Enterprise software provides one-to-multiple centralized management, including BIOS flash, remote control, and power control, all through a colorful and informative graphical interface.

Friendly Design for Front I/O, Front VGA

An accessible rear power button is reserved onboard for use as front panel ports when reversing the serverboard. An extra 15-pin VGA header features front-panel monitor connectivity, helping customers with greater flexibility. These designs provide flexible I/O integration for users to fit in various computing environments.

5 out of 5 eggsStable, Reliable, and vmware certified to boot!

Pros: Title says is all. I'm running this board with the Asus PIKE 2008 IMR raid board with VMware 5.5 with various windows and linux server's and vm's. This is the same board that is in Asus' RS300-E8 server that is on ESXi's certified for VMware list. I would have liked to buy that server but I needed more drive bays for direct attached storage. Also to clarify for anyone looking to setup a simple VMware lab system or small non-raid rig, the chipset and LAN cards on this board are directly recognized by ESXi5 so there is no having to fool with drivers and the like. This means that you can attach drives to the onboard SATA controllers and they are fully recognized by ESXi with no extra drivers. This is a fully certified server / board as per the VMware site.

Cons: None, everything works as advertised and documented.

Other Thoughts: Compared to other boards/servers I have worked with over my 25+ years in IT, Asus boards have been the most stable, reliable and compatible overall than any other brand I have worked with in the past, whitebox and otherwise.

5 out of 5 eggssolid and versatile

Pros: I'm very pleased with this product line. I liked the P9D-E/4L so well that I bought a P9D-C/4L for its backup server. These are well laid out and reasonably well documented boards that are easy to build out and maintain, and perform as advertised. Asus support is responsive when I have questions. I've had nothing but satisfactory experience with these boards; they just work.

Cons: Read the specs carefully. The primary difference between the C board and the E is the PCIe v3 provisioning: on this one, the PCIe slots are skimpy and crippled. The x16 slot runs at x8, and the x8 slot runs at x4; it'll therefore fully support only one high-end RAID card, but at the expense of your graphics card slot. Any more PCIe v3 devices than that, and you must step up to the E/4L.

The optional ASMB7-iKVM is adequate, but klunky and marginally reliable; you should consider it strictly a convenience item.

Other Thoughts: XenServer likes this C224 controller just fine, and runs well on this board. I choose my own RAID cards and ignore the PIKE provisioning (which, unfortunately, is where the other 4 PCIe v3 lanes went), so I have no opinion on that feature. I wish it had been omitted in favor of fully provisioning the standard PCIe v3 slots.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: I've been using this board with a new Haswell Xeon processor and 32 GB ECC UDIMM RAM. Using it for several weeks now as part of a budget-minded XenServer deployment.

Posts quickly, good fan control from the BIOS.
Everything you want in a server motherboard; a LOT of expansion for SATA drives out of the box.

SAS drives, too costly for me so I cannot talk to how they work; the SAS ports are not enabled unless you purchase a PIKE raid controller as well.

I like this board so much, I'm buying another.

Cons: IPMI management is supported but requires an additional card that I cannot find anywhere at this time, the ASMB7-IKVM
