EPU

With the Energy Processing Unit (EPU) you will enjoy from system-wide real-time power savings, controlled via a simple onboard switch or the AI Suite 3 utility. EPU detects and adjusts power consumption according to the PC's needs — automatically. It can also reduce CPU wattage to an indicated level or enjoy even more savings with Away Mode, which creates an extreme energy-saving scenario by shutting down unused extra I/O controllers and reduces the graphics cards' power level while you're away, so the PC consumes only the energy it needs — and not a drop more!

Advanced Fan Controls for Ultimate Cooling and Quietness

TRENDnet

Fan Xpert 3

Fan Xpert 3 puts 4-pin & 3-pin CPU and case fan controls in one place. It scans each fan's characteristics and delivers custom settings for each fan based on the dedicated area temperatures detected by hardware thermal sensors. Make sure every fan achieves the best balance of cooling performance and low noise. Fan Xpert 3 supports hardware-level PWM/DC combo mode for both the CPU and case fans. It even can reduce the CPU fan speed to below the default minimum, for extra-quiet and power saving operation during light loads.

1 out of 5 eggsLast Asus Product I Purchase

Pros: none

Cons: Over the last 5 years or so I have always bought everything ASUS, as their products have always been top notch, but this MB was absolutely horrible. First off, I couldn't install windows 8.1 because when I did, my Ethernet adapter would stop working. So instead I went back to windows 7 which ran fairly well once I stopped installing the Asus AI suite software, which is completely useless. I only rarely used it for about 3 months before I got a red CPU led light up and some error code 76 "pch specific failure". After testing all components I was able to conclude it was the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: With all the horror stories I hear about ASUS's support, I might just chalk this up to lesson learned and buy a board from Gigabyte or MSI. Too bad ASUS, you just lost yourself a very loyal customer!

5 out of 5 eggsLove this board!

Pros: Easy to install
More features than I'll ever need
Plenty of fan connectors
Stable
Great BIOS interface
Easy to update BIOS (used EZ Flash 2 method [flash drive]

Cons: First m/b was DOA
Q-codes aren't always accurate. Don't worry about it always showing A0 or AE.

Other Thoughts: When the first board arrived DOA I thought, "Oh, no, everybody hates ASUS tech support & this will be a nightmare." Well, no. They had me run through a bunch of troubleshooting which I had already done which is only fair. They don't know me & they want to make sure I hadn't done something stupid. The one thing I didn't know was how to clear CMOS which they told me how to do. Anyway, they agreed the board was dead dead dead & set up an RMA.

The next board, a refurbished model, wouldn't POST & nothing worked. So I cleared the CMOS & voila! A working board. After that I had a few questions & every time I called ASUS someone answered quickly & helped me out. No long hold times. The tech support people have English as their first language. So I have nothing but praise for the ASUS tech support team. Plus the Z97-Pro has turned out to be a great board. I use it for a flight simulator which puts big demands on all components. No problems. Very versatile board.

The Z97-Pro has no wi-fi but it doesn't matter to me since I connect to the Internet with a cable.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's been a gem!

Pros: Pros? There are many. Let's suffice it to say that this mobo, together with an SSD, and even with 16 gigs of ram, the Win7 opening screen comes up in about 33 seconds - from a cold start. And when she runs, she runs fast. I've o'c'd it by not a lot, just enough to make it fun, and Asus' bios interface makes it very easy to do. All the fan connections were easy to find, as were every other one I had to make, also. There are just too many cool things to say about this beauty - just buy it, then build around it - you won't be sorry.

Cons: Not a dern one.

5 out of 5 eggsHappy with my choice

Pros: M.2 socket for fast storage solutions, easy to work with, great for a gaming set up

Cons: No complaints about the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you read closely in the manual what it has to say about the SATA ports, SATA express, and M.2 socket. Some of them share bandwidth and are thus exclusive with one another. For instance, if you install an M.2 drive, you cannot utilize the SATA express port (or SATA ports 5 and 6). I have not done much with the PCI ports yet, but there is a similar deal with those.

1 out of 5 eggsBoard went bad after 2 months

Pros: Fast shipping from newegg

Cons: I purchased 5 of these boards. One of the boards went bad after 2 months of use. If this were the only issue I would not be writing a bad review. 1 out of 5 boards is a 20% failure rate which is terrible, but it happens. My complaint lies with ASUS. They have refused to repair the board under warranty - giving some nonsense about how it was scratched. Don't take my word for it. Check out "CID--scratched trace - not repairable" on google and see what problems other people have had with the ASUS warranty department.

Other Thoughts: Stay away from ASUS. High failure rates and absolutely horrendous support.
