5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board NO REAL ISSUES

Pros: very very feature rich board. This is my 3rd Z97 board. The previous board i owned was a gigabyte z97 SOC FORCE. Ive seen alot of people give this board terrible reviews but honestly i just think its ignorance of knowing how to properly set it up. I had one issue when i got it and it was not being able to boot into windows because the drives i had were setup for my previous board and windows detected it was a new board but after changing the sata cables to different ports i got a successful boot. all i had to do was install the software cd that came with the board. This is a very high quality board and even though i didnt purchase mine through newegg its still the same hardware no ifs ands or buts.

Cons: none yet very good software for overclocking and wifi/networking

Other Thoughts: This is the best board ive owned yet and im extremely satisfied

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It's an impressive board, with lots of the features I was looking for. I have wanted a system with plenty of disk storage and speed for a long time.

Because of limited money I have often had to make due with old or used computers and struggle just to keep up with the new software coming out.

This new system should be usable for at least 7 or 8 years and will be the cornerstone of my network.

Cons: Asus assumes far too much; in their manual that comes with the motherboard. I've been working slowly over two weeks(time permitting) to get the system to boot up.

A better manual would have helped greatly as I've made a number of errors while assembling everything. Video card has aux power firmly in place and reseated all the ram now.

Close to booting but I am still having trouble; the POST display stops with A2 now and I have no idea what that is. I will next try using the cpu's builtin video, in hopes of at least getting something working.

Other Thoughts: Not ready to give up yet; been building this computer slowly for over a year now.

I'm tackling the issues I'm having with it slowly and hopefully it won't be long before the computer is running.

4 out of 5 eggsGood motherboard

Pros: easily installed. It was nice that zip ties were included and the different screws were in separate bags.

Easy getting into BIOS and inserting an i7 processor and memory.

Cons: I wouldn't use the SATA cables that are included. They are very stiff to use.

2 out of 5 eggsHard Drive issues

Pros: It was pretty. Liked the UEFI bios, somewhat.

Cons: I had issues with power and sleep and drives. During a wake operation or a boot I would not always see all my drives. Sometimes they would show up later, sometimes not. Tested the other sata controller, no luck. Updated firmware a couple times, played the update your driver game, etc. Never resolved the issue and RMA'd to Asus. Just got a response that I bent the pins and they'd like to charge me $150 for a repair having nothing to do with my RMA. Sooooo, going to try and find a board without these issues. I'm not even willing to argue with them over the diagnosis at this point. Sick of the board and the support.

Other Thoughts: I found their Asus utility somewhat problematic as it interfered with Windows default apps for the same purpose.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I do apologize that you experienced issues with your motherboard. If you would like to discuss this case further, please contact me through email and include your reference number within the subject line as well as your previous RMA number. In addition, please provide me with what troubleshooting steps you had tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you. Cs#N141282875

Regards,

Lou

1 out of 5 eggsNot Able To Get in to Bios

Pros: not sure if any..

Cons: Tried 5 different keyboards to get in to BIOS, pressed DEL or F2 at POST, will skip and go to the next screen and then shutdown in 15 seconds. Attempted to flash bios with USB but will not work. Played with it for 3 days and gave up. RMA'ed...
Got the second board and SATA port and FAN issues.
When computer idles fans are working normal, as soon as you start typing or browse the web, fans take off like crazy, annoying. Fans are set to normal in bios. Gave up with this board...

Other Thoughts: Called Asus, they hung up on me. Went with ASRock board and no regrets, everything works as it should. Sucks that Asus Quality went down the drain.. Used their boards with over 10 years..

1 out of 5 eggsdisappointed

Pros: looks great, lots of features.

Cons: DOA

Other Thoughts: if it wasn't for newegg, i would be more angry. the mobo comes in and doesn't work and ASUS tech support was awful throughout the whole process. they hung up on me. but great job new egg on your customer support. i believe your name was Abby. great job and thank you. ASUS, definitely thinking twice before i order another mobo from you. great job on dropping the ball.

1 out of 5 eggsSata Port Problems...

Pros: Looks nice

Cons: Every time it boots to OS, I am missing one or two of my 9 Sata HDD's. Tried different cables, swapped ports around, installed new HDD's, issue still persists. Sometimes missing HDD will come back on its own in few minutes. Or need to reboot few times until all HDD's are recognized. Updated bios to the latest 2012 version, issue still persist. This board is having some serious issues with Sata Ports.

Other Thoughts: Will probably need to get different brand, been using Asus for years, never had this problems...

2 out of 5 eggsDissapointed

Pros: ASUS brand, solid design

Cons: Firmware and software support are severely lacking. performance

Other Thoughts: I have had many ASUS motherboards and always thought they were the best till I got mad at ASUS for not having a better means to update software and drivers. Also I don't thinks the bios updates a tested very well. The latest bios would not perform when activating boost options...

1 out of 5 eggsNo linux support

Pros: Nice board, but poor linux support (Ubuntu 14.04.1).

Cons: There is no support in lm-sensors for this board. You will not get any fan speed or control.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this board if you are running linux.
