2 out of 5 eggsPower Issues

Pros: All features worked perfectly as expected and as listed, a great mobo overall. Except for one issue.

Cons: I have the same issue as another user giving a bad review; the only way I can get the computer to turn off is to use the override switch on my PSU, unplug it, or hold the power button for a long time until it tries to turn back on but then fails. By the time I isolated the issue to the mobo, the warranty had expired.

Other Thoughts: The only reason I gave this two eggs is because of the power issues, I'm fairly sure most boards won't have this issue, I'm just one of the few. If you feel like trying your luck, go with it!

4 out of 5 eggsFantastic board for the "Plug n' Player"

Pros: Great ASUS product, heavy and durable, all the quick needs fulfilled. Great Value for any 1150 setup, however, see cons.

Cons: While this Board has all the feature you could want and overclocking can be achieved, there are some drawbacks. The biggest drawback being the elusive 5-Way Optimization. Although you can overclock the CPU and get some fairly good results, the ability to tune it is not as good as some other ASUS boards that are available in this z97 lineup. If your looking for the 5-Way Optimization that all the techies showcase with JJ from ASUS you need to go with the following z97 boards; -A, -AR, -WS, Pro or Deluxe. Also some of these boards Have Fan Expert II not FE III which for the life of me I cannot correct the system to know that the CPU Fan is actually the pump for my liquid cooler.

Other Thoughts: 99% of the features are there, may need some BIOS AI Tweaking to get what you want.

4 out of 5 eggsAnother great Asus MB, but....

Pros: Strong quality. Decent documentation. Nice software toolset included. Bios is pretty nice, has an autotune feature, that gets your system setup with no fuss. Good price for a Z-97 board.

Cons: Not a full size ATX board. You better be careful plugging in that 24 pin mini-fit jr. or it'll ruin your day.

Pros: Asus Suit 3 great for overclocking

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: 30c max temps on north and south bridge during gaming load and this is fanless!

5 out of 5 eggsSO FAR SO GOOD

Pros: ASUS QUALITY CRAFTSMANSHIP - After 24 phone calls to a certain retailer (who will remain nameless) to get my money back because they shipped me a PC with a defective motherboard (not even the PC I ordered) I rather humbly re-learned my lesson: DO NOT BUY PRE-BUILDS - BUILD YOUR OWN! Well, the difference between that nightmare and this mobo is comparable to night and day. This board offers all the features any regular user could ask for and with an Intel G3258 building a Desktop PC that flies like the wind for less than 500 bux is actually feasible. Just plug in a standard ASUS DVD drive for about 20 bux, drop the Intel Anniversary chip (already pre-pasted), connect a 120 GB HyperX Fury to the board and you're good to go. The board gives you enough Sata ports for generous amounts for additional storage, plenty of USB 3.0, enough express lanes for years of upgrading should you choose to do so AND you'll find that the onboard graphics are nothing to sneeze at. In fact I didn't bother to install a GPU because the graphics that come with the board are more than adequate to the purpose. I am really pleased with this board and the price but this is what you can expect from a company like ASUS. If you're looking for a board that offers a few extra options and can run along with the rest of the best but you don't want to dole out piles of cash then this is your motherboard. This board also has the latest features of Haswell motherboards. The Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) make setup a breeze. Thankyou ASUS for making a little girl's dream come true.

Cons: The south bridge seems a little weak. I hope it doesn't burn out quick. Time will tell.

Other Thoughts: Although I haven't had this for more than a month I built this PC for my daughter and I became very addicted to it. I wonder if I didn't go overboard building it for a 5 year old girl but I live in a very remote location and she had to wait weeks for a defective PC that I had to ship back and make her wait weeks again. That put Daddy in a bad light. I resolved to remedy this by choosing ASUS and I'm not sorry I did. My own PC uses the ASUS Z87 Sabertooth mobo and this Z97 really impressed me even though it wasn't the ASUS top of the line model. Now I think I understand the reason behind the Haswell refresh. My advice to anyone looking into the ASUS Z series motherboards is to choose Z97 instead of the Z87 which strikes me as a beta version of the real McCoy. You won't be disappointed even if you had to pay a few bux more for the refresh platform. That said, If you have the money to spare I would advise skipping the entire Z series line and opt out for X99. Once again, it depends on what you're after.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Core Board

Pros: Board is well constructed and is a bit heavier than some others I have handled. All of the boards plugs, headers, and such are very clearly labeled so that someone with little knowledge of computers could even put this together. The BIOS is very well laid out with simple and advanced versions to cater to both enthusiasts and casual users. The EZ view screen makes it simple to set fan profiles, boot priority, and even overclock with minimal effort.

The tuning wizard will take into account your hardware, cooling, and usage and automatically find a stable overclock for both your unlocked processor and memory. Again, someone with almost no experience can easily overclock their computer or even set up RAID using this board.

All this user friendliness doesn't short the advanced user that wants BIOS options. The system features an advanced mode where users can tweak just about every option to their liking.

Cons: The absolute biggest drawback with this board (and the reason I exchanged it) is the PCI configuration. When using multiple PCI express slots the first slot will run at x16 while the adjacent slots will only run at x1. This means the board will NOT run SLI or CrossFire (it is sometimes included with SLI/Crossfire supercombos).

If you plan to only run one graphics card and don't have any other PCI cards that need high bandwidth then this is the board for you. However, if you want to fully utilize both PCI express slots I recommend spending the extra $20 to buy the Z97-A.

Other Thoughts: This is a good board for the money and if you are looking to build a good mid-range system for a good price then you can't really go wrong with it.

5 out of 5 eggsNo issues

Pros: I have no issues with my motherboard. It's great for the price. Bios was very easy to use and overclocking on this board was a breeze.

Cons: bottom Pcie x16 slot isn't as fast as the top one.

Other Thoughts: I got this in a combo with a pentium g3258. I have it overclocked to 4 ghz, and it works great!

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: Lots of features for the price!

Cons: System will re-start all by itself. The only way to get the system to shut down completely is to either turn off the power supply, unplug the power supply or hold the power button down for a LONG time (the system at first shuts down but then powers up again with the power button held down - after the second start and stop with the power button held down it usually will stay off). Purchased a second power supply to make sure that wasn't the issue. It wasn't!!!

Other Thoughts: ASUS quality has slowly eroded and they have gotten bigger. Probably a good idea to investigate other options to ASUS.
