Patent-pending OC Socket

Drive CPU and DDR4 performance beyond the limits!

Designed to break performance barriers, ASUS OC Socket utilizes extra pins to connect a proprietary circuit to contacts found on Haswell-E's land grid array (LGA). Combined with our customized UEFI, this exclusive feature enables higher DDR4 memory frequencies, lower latencies and enhanced stability while overclocking, extending all the way to extreme overclocking conditions, such as Liquid Nitrogen (LN2). OC Socket is 100% compatible with new Haswell-E LGA 2011-v3 CPUs, ensuring the ideal combination of overclocking performance and compatibility.

Unique Cache Bus Voltage Adjustment

Cache bus links areas such as CPU cores, DDR4 Memory Controllers, System Agent and the shared L3 Cache. It is a critical interconnect for the whole CPU subsystem. Higher Cache Bus frequency directly gives faster total sub-system performance. ASUS OC Socket exclusively provides an adjustable cache bus voltage to reach higher cache bus frequencies.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst motherboard I have ever used

Pros: It looks nice, otherwise I can't think of any

Cons: Every single one I have received is defective and each replacement I have received is worse than the previous one. I have never had a motherboard that was this bad. I believe there is a major engineering defect in the revision I have. Only 1 bios works, 1 of the ram channels just quits working randomly and I can't rely on it to even start all the time. I had to use a usb wifi adapter because the onboard one quit working and when enabled the system would not even start

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this motherboard period, I have had nothing but problems with it since the first one I purchased, Nothing seems to work reliably. I know that there are lots of people that love this board, I just seem to keep getting broken ones.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We appreciate the feedback you have provided on your ASUS experience. I'm sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing and please accept our apologies for any inconvient experience. What are your hardware specifications? Is memory and power supply verified on the ASUS qualified vendor list? Clear CMOS, pull one memory module and place the other stick in the slot furthest from the CPU and see if that helps. Try each DIMM one-by-one to check for any potentially defective DIMMs. For safety purposes make sure to complete the power off cycle before testing hardware to avoid damaging your hardware. For optimal wireless connectivity, make sure to download and install the latest Wireless drivers WIFI WIN10 32bit&64bit Version If you need help with any technical questions or general inquiries, please contact me directly at using N160510493 as reference to your case.

3 out of 5 eggsFailed after 11 months

Pros: Absolutely feature packed.
Every tweaking option you can think of
Intuitive bios
Every kind of connection (I don't even know what they all are), and more USB ports than you can fill (and I use a lot)

Cons: -I've had sporadic power cycling issues since I got the board, and after 11 months it failed completely
-ASUS tech support was "okay". Got through to someone quickly. It was still fully covered by my warranty and they agreed to send me a refurbished replacement without any hassle. Only downside is that they didn't have any in stock and they estimated -it would take 2 weeks for me to get a replacement.
-If I'm being honest, this is probably too advanced of a board for me. Only the most extreme overclockers can fully utilize this board.
-I had a lot of stability issues, even after updating my bios and resetting all my overclocks to default.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We appreciate you taking the time to inform us on your ASUS experience. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this issue has caused. Please double check each cable on the motherboard including your 24pin/8pin power plug connectors. Please make sure all your GPU connectors are firmly installed and that all your SATA drives are receiving power from your PSU. Clear CMOS and see if the board will POST. If it will not, pull one memory module and place the other stick in the slot furthest from the CPU and see if that helps. If you need a help with any technical questions or general inquiries you can reach me at using N160386062 as reference to this case.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Motherboard, amazing features.

Pros: Excellent mainboard. Everything just works. Really easy to setup once you understand it. Makes overclocking very easy.

Cons: None really

Other Thoughts: If you are not use to a UEFI bios, or installing windows in compatibility mode or UEFI, you are going to have to learn a bit. But really there's plenty of info on the internet.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible customer service

Pros: Looks cool, Has alot of I/O ports, sata ports, and PCIe slots.

Cons: Hoible customer service. I had to RMA my board since I found a bad memory slot. Ok, that stuff happens, but the board they shipped back to me had thermal paste on the sata ports, around the cpu socket, and they even managed to get some on 2 of the cpu pins. I opened multiple tickets with and every time I call in they always pass me to a different department. After 2 weeks of trying to get a response that wasn't "we'll update the ticket/case number" I finally received an email asking for my shipping address. It took them 6 days to generate an RMA and they still want me to pay for the shipping, even though they sent be a bad product.

I normally buy MSI mobo's but I wan'ted to be part of the ROG family so i switched to ASUS. After this experience I don't want to ever deal with ASUS's support again. From now on ASUS would be the last brand I look at, if this is how the support was for their $500 flagship I don't even want to think of how it would be for an entry level product.

Other Thoughts: (Asus has lost my confidence, I will STOP recommending any of their products.)

1 out of 5 eggsThis thing is garbage

Pros: its looks cool.

Cons: This board is pure trash. It worked for 1 week, then one day i had to run to the store so i threw my computer into sleep mode. when i got back i woke it up and it randomly went to a Bf qcode. Ever since then its constantly getting hung up on qcodes 17,19, 79. forcing me to have to reseat the ram. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my ram or any other components. The board is just messed up. After shut down if i dont drain the system of power by shutting off the psu, when i go to turn it back on, the board will display q code 00 and do an infinite boot loop shutting on and off. After doing some extensive research i realized that there are a TON of people having this same issue. Yet not 1 single person can remedy the issue. Not even asus. Avoid this board at all cost.

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: Good board when it works

Cons: POST (Power on System Test) code/errors ever since I bought it and have never overclocked it.

Other Thoughts: Product is not as advertised. Over the past few weeks the POST codes have gotten worse on cold-boots, random code(s) every time. Called ASUS support, which took 4 times, they now tell me that my board is no longer under warranty. Newegg sites 3 years and have only had is since Oct-14.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsWorst MB I have had in 30yrs!

Pros: Nice external design, looks great
Lots of features
Comes from a reputable company

Cons: Unstable even with v1801 bios (running an i7 5960cpu)
Constantly fails to cold boot or restart.
Developers and QA team seriously let down the ASUS brand with this build.
Tech support is awful with getting help to RMA this MB
Have been building my own rigs for 30+ yrs and this one is awful

Other Thoughts: DO NOT PURCHASE, get an MSI Motherboard like many of us had to.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsMost unstable board ever

Pros: When it works, it's fast, and feature rich. BIOS is insane with tweakability.

Cons: grossly unstable, poor diagnostic code descriptions, most problematic MB i've ever had the displeasure of using.

Other Thoughts: I can only hope the newer version is better - the first revision of this board is terrible.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsHUGE potential, HUGE weight, HUGE issues.

Pros: It's chock-full of features to keep any wirehead or gamer busy tweaking for that extra 10 fps or 1GHZ.

Well-thought out layout makes for easy connections and installation. Lots of cables and sensors included in kit.

The manual is over 1/4" thick, making for good bedtime reading or studying before installation day.

Powerful BIOS menu, full of features and options to apply to your build.

Cons: It's heavy and BIG. Be prepared with a case sized to handle this beast.

A large work area, about the size of a pool table, is highly suggested, you are going to be moving around this kit a lot.

Manual needs to clarify on more than a few chipset control features, same goes for BIOS help menus.

BIOS tries to OC on first boot, so make sure your RAM and CPU are seated and ready!

A few errors need to be clarified in manual or a error database needs to be established online to be kept up to date. The error code system is a solid idea, but support needs to be maintained, and continuation of this into other and future boards.

RAM sockets only have one latch on one end, making for unseated sticks. Latch engages on RAM even with one end unseated!

System software useless when diagnosing RAM. One stick in a set of 4 was bad causing random reboots with no error. Company wanted to RMA the board without attempting to assist me in diagnosing the issue. Replacement RAM resolved problems.

Bottom 2 USB sockets inoperable even though they are acknowledged by device manager.

Modification of OC socket needed to restore USB port availability to user.

Improved access to release latches on PCI-X sockets needed. Large video cards make it a major challenge to access said latches when the need arises. Large CPU sinks and large video cards obstruct access to the latch.

Other Thoughts: This board is packed with more features and made improvements to some, but nerfed others, in comparison to the workhorse Rampage II. As outlined in the cons, I ran into issues, both related and unrelated to both hardware and firmware. These were overcome, thanks to the ASUS forums, but no thanks to ASUS's support, who wanted to RMA the board outright without even attempting to diagnose the problems I was experiencing.
