4 out of 5 eggsThey're ok

Pros: Everything ran without a hitch, installed a sempron 140. 1GB of PQI turbo. Temps and voltage kept them self low no more than 95degrees after a week of recording 4 cameras.

6 sata ports
supports pretty much any am2, am2+ and am3 processor 95 watts and under.

1 Serial port

Cons: The motherboard didnt list where the power/reset/hdd led needed to be plugged in it. It was all clearly listed in the manual.

the d-sub(VGA) connector wasn't solid, they moved as you plugged in a monitor. ended up screw the monitor inplace opposed to just pressting the female connector in then screwing it down.

only 2 ram slots(by choice), 6 channel sound(again by choice) 1 fan header besides the CPU - who needs cooling with 95watts of power?

Other Thoughts: i didnt try OC at all, these were used in a 16 channel DVR system.

I didnt look in the bios much, only to set up the ram timings and boot order. It did have an array of voltage and clock frequency adjustments, like most boards.

Looks like a metalic purple - kinda neat.

I can be kind of picky with a few things.

Used for 2 machines. Over all, I'd use it again, atleast for a budget/non-performance system.

PQI TURBO 1GB , Sempron 140, Western Digital Caviar Blue WD3200AAKS, geovision gv600

woot, i can finaly use my serial mouse again

4 out of 5 eggsGot it to work.

Pros: Small, inexpensive, straightforward. Bios is refreshingly well described in manual and annotated within the actual setup screens.

Bought at same time as a Phenom BE (Athlon 64X2 AM2+) and 2GB of G.Skill DDR2 800 memory. Combo posted first time and is very responsive.

Cons: Could not get operating correctly under openSuSE 11.1 with or without an add in PCIE graphics card (Nvidia 8400GS). Switched to an installation of kubuntu 9.04 with the 8400GS and it works just fine.

Problems occurred in identifying the /dev location of the hard drive that I had installed on the IDE channel (no SATA drives in the computer) and in getting X to work with the ATI onboard Radeon 2100.

Board is a little thin for hobbyists who plug/unplug monitor cables or peripheral cards on a regular basis.

None of these are showstoppers, but they were annoying enough collectively to ding the product by one egg.

Other Thoughts: Having one IDE channel is not a show stopper for me, but it seems an odd design or marketing decision given that the board has full legacy PS/2 keyboard and mouse inputs. I had to put my DVD drive and HD on same cable (difficult since one is a 3.5" and the other a 5.25" IDE device, located in different enough areas of the case) just for the install.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine for me.

Pros: I've been using this motherboard for quite a while. Added a video card for gaming and 3 MB of RAM running XP Pro. I dual boot with Ubuntu and have had excellent result. The drivers loaded with out any problems, make sure you restart every time it asks while loading. Use G.Skill Ram. Plays most any game, surfs fine, downloads anything and has run without a hitch. For the price what more could I ask.

Cons: Doesn't have a bunch of timing settings but enough for me. I'm not trying to push and squeeze every millisecond out of it. I just want a good stable functioning system to work and play on.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor support, mediocre quality

Pros: Works for the most part. For basic computing (workstation stuff) it's probably more than fine.

Cons: Terrible support, poor driver support and utilities, poor fit and finish (it took some doing to get it seated right in the case).
Do not use for a gaming computer, even a cheap budget build. I have had nothing but trouble getting it to play nicely with my graphics card (a 8600GTS, also cheap, but good quality) and any sound card. I understand that there is a bios update that should help with the compatability of 8 series cards, but after reading all the horror stories of people cooking the entire board simply by trying to flash the bios, I haven't done this.

Other Thoughts: Spend a bit more $$$ for a better MOBO. This one just requires to much tweaking and fussing to work. If you are building a work station PC on a tight budget, though, this is probably fine.

1 out of 5 eggsNice motherboard for disc-golf.....

Pros: It fit well into the case.

Cons: JUNK! Got it to POST for about 10 seconds exactly ONCE, then nothing.....Bought this board to update a friend's desktop, and since he doesn't game, just got him an on-board video. The video connector on the motherboard is very loose, and you have to wiggle it to get signal!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Failure to post could be many factors and not necessary the fault of the motherboard. Please contact our support team either at support@ecsusa.com or 510-226-7333 (option 6) for assistance.

Sincerely,
ECS

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good buy

Pros: 6 SATA inputs, DVI, very good integrated video.

Cons: Not really a con but for those who like firewire 1394 this board does not have one on board.

3 out of 5 eggsBeware of Bios Update

Pros: Ran great...this is when it did. Fast and stable

Cons: First had issues with BSOD. Traced that back to sound drivers and onboard sound, Loaded PCI soundcard and viola, BSOD went away. Then wanted to use Nvidia video card....no dice would not recognize. Tried many times and methods. Wouls not work. Went with ATI card and all was well. Figured I would try the BIOS update and try the Nvidia card again.......CRASH....BIOS load failure.. with BIOS loaded from ECS website..board dead. Beware of BIOS flash, you may kill your board!

Other Thoughts: After I finally got it stable I should have left well enough alone......it was running good. Tried BIOS update and now out a board. ECS should be ashamed their own updates fail....

5 out of 5 eggsGood deal and good performance

Pros: Wide range of CPUs supported, DVI integrated is pretty good, lots of SATA's and 1 gig NIC, Micro ATX

Cons: This is my second ECS board and I have loaded 2003 server, 2008 server, and WHS and they all have trouble loading the sound drivers until you get all the downloads from Microsoft. The express install CD always comes up with unknown OS. So you have to load them manually. Otherwise they are good boards. Please include more SATA cables!

Other Thoughts: This is a good all round board for home use and gaming with video bumped up. For the price is it hard to beat. As always - how can you go wrong with Newegg customer support and the educational user reviews. Thank you Newegg!

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good

Pros: Games decently with a 8800GT. Doesn't have an excessive amount of bells and whistles to get in the way. The placing of the chipset makes it very easy to attach the hsf without busting your knuckles.

Cons: Runs fine as is under linux, but you'll need to update the bios if you run an Nvidia card in windows. ie the sound skips when you hold down a key. Update the bios and that'll go away. It gets 4 stars because of no floppy to do this update without windows, but for most this won't be a problem as the updater is fairly painless.

Other Thoughts: For the price, I'm happy with this board. Although, I wouldn't recommend it if you ever plan on running a quad core chip anymore. There are newer chipsets that do a much better job for those CPUs.
