3 out of 5 eggsSpare PC for Linux Mint

Pros: HDMI Port, supports up to 1080p; Mini ITX, low power usage. Easy to install in a case. Overall for a spare machine and light usage it is decent. Price Value is good.

Cons: There is no con for me because I built it on purpose with Linux Mint xfce 32 bit. This is a single core, so do not expect a fast machine, mainly supports Windows 7.

Only con was that I could not put a 64 bit Linux when I built it, but no problem with 32 bit.

Other Thoughts: If you use this for Windows 7 should be a breeze. If you try Linux it might take some work because of the VIA chipset.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value Board & A+ Tech Support

Pros: Small, Fast, Inexpensive, HDMI out. Perfect for building an everyday- driver machine. Had to call tech support...A+..real techs with solid knowledge..solved my issue quickly.

Cons: HDMI out was/is flaky. WinXP install was a nightmare; but eventually sorted it out; see "other thoughts".

Other Thoughts: -1111-. WinXP must be SP3 at installation; you cannot add SP3 later. If you install a non SP3 version of XP, it will fail...Why?...because support for SATA drives was added in SP3, without SP3, the OS won't recognized the SATA drive and the install stops with a failure code. If your XP is not SP3, do some research on slipstreaming the disk...google it.

-2222- I almost never use an "included disk", but for this board, long story short, you must run the disk.

-3333- HDMI out is flaky, I had to connect/disconnect the cable several times to get a display...tried different cables, all the same result...no HDMI out?, unplug and reinsert cable until it, hopefully, works...could just be my board though...working fine now...but initially I thought I'd have to RMA..

-4444- It's been up and running for 6 months now...Very satisfied.

2 out of 5 eggsMaybe I got a bad 1

Pros: Nice ITX layout. Can be used as SFF desktop or HTPC.

Cons: Reading the other reviews, I may have a bad board. It will not boot into Linux at all. Windows 7 works just fine, but is extremely slow. Slow as in the Pentium D motherboard with DDR2 it replaced was faster.

Other Thoughts: I did this as a charity build. I wound up replacing their old motherboard with a matching one, and put this one in an ITX case. I would not recommend this motherboard.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the performance issue you are experiencing with your motherboard. If you haven't already, we would like for you to contact us. We would like to find out more about your configuration and work with you in finding a solution.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazingly Small, Neat and x86-64!

Pros: Small Motherboard/ITX Size 17cm x 17cm, Versatile Configuration, x86-64 Compatible. Adjustable Size IGP/Video Card up to 512 Megabytes RAM, HDMI and VGA out, Available Regular PCI 2.1 Slot. Responsive boot time, considering it's a Single Core 1.6 Ghz VIA Nano CPU. Very inexpensive! Runs Windows 7 like a champ!

Cons: Only 1 PCI slot, No IDE connector (I have tons of old but clean and full operating IDE drives.) I have to spend more money and buy a SATA to IDE adapter from Rosewill. Being small motherboard, you have to be gentle with it to avoid bending connectors. Can't remove the CPU if you want to update. Single Core CPU means it can game older games (Pac Man from 2000), but it might be a problem for GTA 5.

Other Thoughts: I love this little board! My nephew loves it too! I bought two of them!

3 out of 5 eggsGood for price

Pros: very cheap, HDMI output is useful for home theater systems

Cons: not powerful enough for 720p video on windows XP with plenty of ram. Ruins purpose of the HDMI output

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Small Device

Pros: Quality and value.
This board and cpu/igp is perfect for small home media systems on a budget. I have excellent framerates and smooth scanning through 1080p video. I've even used this satisfactorily to run some old console game emulators on my television.

Cons: I don't really see a downside. It shares the same problems as other mini-itx boards, that being things are hard to reach and even my thin fingers needed a pair of jewelry pliers to get everything plugged in.

Other Thoughts: I never actually did get Ubuntu 12.04 to play nice with the IGP drivers so I ended up just installing win7 in order to end my software fight and start enjoying my new hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsNice board

Pros: Nice board that handles windows 7 x64. I will be running a media server off of mine, it has all of the functionality of a standard mother board and CPU for half the price and with 8 GB of RAM this makes a nice addition to a home media server.

Cons: It is to bad that it does not have any USB 3.0 ports and it only has 2 SATA 3Gb/s transfer rate I would prefer it had 4 SATA 6Gb/s connections.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent little board with limitations

Pros: Rather cool and quiet running board using Ubuntu 12.04, even with the cpu fan running full throttle. Idle temps were around 32C, which is pretty decent for a 65nm cpu being cooled by a chipset fan.

Ran 360p flash videos with about 75% cpu utilization, also not bad for a low power single core.

Cons: HDMI port was bad, filling the screen with nothing but multi-colored bands.

As for VGA, the Ubuntu driver did not support res over 1024x768. A recent PCI video card should rectify this problem, as I have a GT 610 coming (which also has an HDMI port).

No AHCI support in bios that I could find. Forced to run my sata drive in IDE mode.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your feedback. It is appreciated. We need your feedback in order to improve the quality of our products and service.

For the video issues you are experiencing, please check the VIA Linux Portal for any possible driver solutions. See the included link.

For AHCI, unfortunately this is a limitation of th VX900 chipset.

5 out of 5 eggslife-saver for technical computing

Pros: A very affordable system that still sports DDR3 memory and HDMI output. A quick trip to the manufacturer web site shows that Win 8 is officially unsupported, while Win XP, Vista and 7 are, both in 32- and 64-bit. Attaching a disk with a Win 8 RC installation (from another computer) allows the system to boot to a working desktop without any driver installation, but YouTube HD videos playback is choppy. Similar story with Win 7 64-bit, but spotless performance in XP 32-bit (after driver installation). The system consumes 30-40W when working and 4 W at idle, the somewhat noisy CPU fan only works during start-up, but is idle during normal operation.

Cons: only 2 SATA ports, single expansion slot is PCI

Other Thoughts: Scores of computers were bought to control a piece of equipment that usually still works when the original computer failed. This is a great find for those who resist upgrade from Win XP because "if it ain't broken, do not fix it". Apart from spotty graphics (for HTPC use, anyway), it is a cool and compact replacement for a whitebox minitower that failed.
