4 out of 5 eggsJust built. OK so far.

Pros: Up and running as expected. Good value.

Cons: Few complaints. The USB 3.0 connector is slightly recessed as others have pointed out.

Other Thoughts: Installed Celeron G1820, Klevv Fit 8GB and 240 GB SSD. I have the option to upgrade to an i5 or i7 in the future. Reused my old Cooler Master RC-641 case and power supply. Added Rosewill RCH-200 to the front panel. It fit the USB 3.0 connector but is slightly angled due to the edge of the board. Still, it is seated well. [case update below]. These parts replaced a Foxconn motherboard circa 2008 and an AMD 8250e triple core processor. I wanted to see what's new with this build. The main differences I see are the UEFI bios and USB 3.0. As shipped, the bios is configured as a legacy bios for Windows 7 and earlier. I really wanted to get it to work as a UEFI bios for Windows 8/10. This took some research and experimentation. I didn't realize it completely changes the recognized drive partition type from MFT to GPT and will simply keep booting into bios setup until it sees a legitimate EFI boot partition. The UEFI mode also eliminates any 'hit a key' to interrupt normal boot. You must go through the OS advanced troubleshooting to get there from here. My other hiccup was Windows 10 was unstable until I turned off hybrid sleep.

Followup 4-31-16. Transferred all parts except power supply to new SilverStone PS09b case. Used new EVGA 430 power supply. One odd issue is that Windows 10 crashed once about 2 minutes after cold boot and hasn't happened since. I'm wondering if there is an issue with the Intel RST driver as this happened after the initial build and stopped then as well.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA Avoid

    Pros: Small Layout

    Cons: DOA
    Fan Headers in Terrible Slot
    USB 3.0 Header bad Spot

Other Thoughts: DOA maybe my next one will work -_-

    Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing with your motherboard. Prior to shipping from our factory, all motherboards are tested to ensure that they are working properly. A DOA issue can be caused by any of the main components, including CPU, memory, power supply and motherboard. If possible we would recommend testing the motherboard in the following fashion.

Remove the motherboard from the case, with only CPU, CPU fan, memory and power supply connected. Place on a flat non static surface. Reseat the CPU. Test with only one memory at a time and reseat memory. Ensure that both the 24 pin and 4 pin (ATX12V) connections are connected from the power supply. Connect the power button from the case or short the power pins (6 and 8) to power on the system. If still have any issues or questions, please contact us and we can work with you to find a solution.

I or any of my team members here at technical support will be able to help you.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: Front USB 3 header. Got it on sale. Everything works.

Cons: As others have mentioned the front USB 3 header is recessed back from the edge so it keeps it about an 1/8" from plugging in all the way. It would probably work like this, but I cut the bottom of the boot surrounding the plug not a big deal to me. Had to go to ECS website to get USB 3 driver working correctly, When I would plug a USB 3 drive in, this device could perform faster if plugged into a USB 3 port message. leave the USB 3 driver from the disc installed or you will get a message this motherboard does not support this feature. The fans don't work set on silent setting in bios, I left them on normal and it's still quiet.

    Other Thoughts: Despite the problems with this board I still think it was a good deal on sale. Works with 2 x 4Gb G Skill Aries 9-9-9-24 1.5v 1600 and 2 x 8Gb Crucial 11-11-11-28 1.5v, Pentium G3450, Samsung 850 evo 120Gb, Seagate 1Tb

4 out of 5 eggsHaving Issues

Pros: I bought one a few weeks ago and not a single issue....I bought a 2nd one and I had to return thinking it was a bad motherboard...see below for issues...

Cons: I am on the 3rd motherboard now...I replaced what I thought was a bad motherboard due to a weak power supply and I am still having the same issue. Here is what the build has:

Intel Pentium Processor G3240 (3M Cache, 3.10 GHz)

    2 Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB Single DDR3 1600 MT/s

Seagate 1TB Desktop HDD SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache

    Sentey® Gaming Case Optimus Gs-6000r

    EVGA 500 W1 80+, 500W Continuous Power

Everything from what I see if hooked up perfect. System will power on, all fans running, and after about a min, the system appears to lose power and power cycles and then starts back up. I am not getting any video at all which is using the VGA connector, the USB keyboard is plugged in, but the NUM LOCK light never lites up so that shows no power as well.

I have plugged the keyboard into all USB ports and still no NUM LOCK LIGHT, and video does not come on. Is the powering down and back up indicate that the power supply is too weak? Is it possible that even at 500watts, it still is not enough power and I need to bump up higher?

I even have unplugged all devices and still no luck. I do not know what at this point could be causing these issues. Again, I built an exact match to this system with only 1 difference and that was with a video card...but before the video card was installed, the on board video worked fine without issue....

    Please help!!!!

1 out of 5 eggsFollow up: FAILED after 4 months

Pros: -Uh....it was GREAT while it worked

Cons: -Started OVERVOLTING components on the 12 volt (13.06 volts) while undervolting the 5 and 3.3 volt capacitors

Other Thoughts: My computer started shutting off at the windows logo shortly after installing a GPU. At first I thought it was the GPU or Power Supply, but after pulling the GPU and swapping the Power supply, the problems persisted. I swapped everything else, RAM and Hard Drives but still the problem was there. Once isolated to the motherboard, I found to my horror that the 12 volt supply was overvolted and the 5/3.3 was undervolted. Also my CPU voltage regulator was jacked all the way to 1.7 volts!!! (Not overclocked). This thing as been slowly FRYING everything attached to it for who knows how long.

This is further backed up by the fact that the motherboard will sometimes reset itself several times during BIOS boot. These are called "Phantom Boots" and are a failsafe built in for the motherboard to regulate voltage (Almost all modern motherboards can do this). Just to be sure though I tested my power output from my PSU with a voltage meter and got solid ratings within .05 on the 12, 5 and 3.3 rails.

First ECS board and my last. I now know why ECS has such a bad reputation in the gaming community.

1 out of 5 eggsonly good for a month or two

Pros: Cheap, works right away after installation.

Cons: Have been building computer systems of my own since the late 90s. This is the first motherboard that stopped working only after 2 months' use in my hands, which speaks by itself.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns well!

Pros: -Lots of features for the price. HDMI, 2 USB 3.0, PCI Express 3.0
-Absolutely perfect for a budget build. Did a complete build with 1x8GB DDR3 1600 memory, 1TB Hard Drive, i3-4160 and case with power supply for 300. Great holdover until I can get a 750ti and make a full fledged gaming rig.
-Lots of expandabilty from a MicroATX board.

Cons: -As stated, a dual-layer graphics card will prevent you from using the PCI express 2.0 slot, if you use the 3.0 slot

Other Thoughts: Despite design flaws, this board packs a punch when it comes to expandability on a budget. It can build anything from a cheap celeron-based system all the way up to a Devil's Caynon gaming rig with 16GB of DDR3 RAM. Its also great for cheap gaming rigs like mine that run off cheaper i3/i5 processors - though overclocking features on here are lacking and you're probably better off looking elsewhere if you've got a G3258 unlocked.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Loww Cost Board

Pros: This is a B85 chipset it has 6 Sata connectors (4 at Sata III and 2 at Sata II) new UEFI BIOS.

Cons: Only 1 USB 2.0 header on board, No Raid

Other Thoughts: I have tested it with both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 both work. UEFI BIOS is just eye candy the only difference is UEFI supports secure boot

Did you find this review helpful? Yes No

4 out of 5 eggsFeature Laden Budget Board with a Couple Big Goofs

    Pros: Sale Price
    Free Shipping
    Modern, Full Featured UEFI Bios
    Intel B85 supports 4th-Gen Intel CPU's
    Four SATA 6 ports
    Helpful 72 page manual

Cons: Only one internal USB 2 header on board. WHAT ?
    There is no RAID.
    PCB is thin
PCI Express x1 slot covered and unusable when using double size videocard
    No forum at ECS site
Unhelpful 312 language quick start guide.
    Fingerprint smudges on board battery
Resetting BIOS causes date and time loss..WHAT?

Other Thoughts: I wanted a micro ATX board to stick in my ATX case and I did not want to spend much money. The computer this board went in is my back-up system running Windows 8.1 that I use to test new
programs. I had an ECS board in the past and it never gave me any problems. This board is well reviewed by guys that own them.

This is not a gaming board but rather a business board. Intel Small Business Advantage offers six applications
that backup and restore data, a PC Health Center, Software Monitor, USB Blocker, Energy Saver and Wireless Display. Just make sure your Intel CPU is on the list.

In business I would think data critical so at a minimum offer RAID 1

Setup was easy and the system booted right up. Always a plus.

I looked through the BIOS and found under Boot Menu the option:
"Operation SYstem Select" with sub menu options
    1) Windows 7 or other OS
    2) Windows 8.x
    3) Manual

Since I am running 8.1 on the system I selected that and saved.
On reboot there was no display to the monitor.
This occurred whether I used the on board or a discrete video card. The only way to get the system to boot with video output was to clear CMOS. Clearing CMOS also caused date and time to be lost. Since when is that normal? 1990?
Fingerprint smudges on board battery ? Hmmmmm?
I replaced battery but it didn't make a difference.

There are a pantload of options on that BIOS page and some manual adjustment may need doing. I put in a support ticket at ECS and promptly received an automated e-mail..."We got your support request" reply. I would like to hear from them.

    System Specs:

    ECS B85H3-M3
    Celeron G1820 Haswell Dual-Core
    8 gig GSkill PC 12800

This is almost a 3 Egg board. The PCIe placement is worth a whole egg off and the BIOS issues are significant enough to almost warrant a loss of another egg but not quite.

Looking back I might have spent a few more bucks but after all I just needed a basic board.

Recommended if you want a no frills mobo at a good price.
