Strange Behavior, not shipped with 45nm support
- Pros: Very low price for crossfire potential. Even if the second PCI-E isn't running at x16, the bandwidth for PCI-E is generally way over what is actually needed and so its unlikely that the second slot will prove to be much of a bottleneck. Functions well enough otherwise.
- Cons: The BIOS it shipped with didn't support 45nm Intel processors. This includes the popular E7200 and E8400. I had to buy a Celeron so I could POST and then flash the BIOS to a version that supports them, which was frustrating. Also, the motherboard has an odd 'feature' which causes it to turn on, but not post, then reboot and post the first time it is connected to a power source. It is actually stated in the manual. Its a very strange feature and the manual doesn't do a good job of explaining why it happens.
- Other Thoughts: An average product overall. It gets the job done and it does have solid capacitors, a nice feature for the price. But its quirks are frustrating. I do make custom builds as a business and I thought I'd try this mobo in one. I won't again, because the restart-at-boot 'feature' is not the kind of thing a customer is going to appreciate.
Great board, Great Price.
- Pros: Has firewire. Also has optical and analog audio out--sexy. Love the well placed internal USB and firewire connections for the front panel. Installed a Pentium Dual Core E2180 with no problem what so ever. The bios are very similiar to a DFI LanParty and I'm sure it would overclock just as well. In fact, the build quality is more similiar to the LanParty line.
- Cons: Front panel audio connections are the furthest from where you want them to be--but it's that way on every motherboard. Take off the useless serial and printer ports already, sheesh--I need my USB!
- Other Thoughts: Wow, best deal for a motherboard period--that is if your using an original Pentium, Celeron or old Core 2 Duo processer. I bought this board for my Mother's new rig. I thought I was buying a budget board, but this seems to be a better choice (and half the price) of the BloodIron. I'm not saying the P35 Northbridge is overrated, I just saying the P965 is underrated--great board, great price.
DOA?
- Pros: It had nice SATA cables included.
- Cons: Where to start...I hooked everything up, fired the board up and almost instantly white smoke everywhere. I blew up everything that was connected to the board: CPU, VGA, HDDs, Floppy, and DVD Drive...I KNOW it wasn't my power supply since everything in the case was working 100% fine this morning. I didn't change wiring or anything. Luckily this was my server, so the only things worth anything was this mobo and the HDDs. All I can say is be VERY careful with this board.
- Other Thoughts: My first experience with DFI; definitely not my first building a computer from scratch or just upgrading a component. I'll be sticking with ASUS mobos, as they've yet to fail me without it being my fault.
