1 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Since I can't edit my old review, here's an update. First, Newegg is amazing. Even though it is well, well outside the timeframe for an exchange, Newegg has agreed to send me a replacement board. That's why I keep spending money with them. That's why I have a licence plate cover advertising them on my car. That's why I tell everyone who asks, "where do you think I should buy ---?" to go to Newegg.

Cons: The board died on me after 6 months. It was randomly shutting down and eventually wouldn't post (not a heat or hardware problem, I troubleshot the tar out of it). After calling for an RMA and thoroughly explaining the issues to someone who pretty obviously doesn't have a masterful command of English, despite the office being in northern California, I packaged it up and sent it back. When I called for an update, I was told the board posted and was being sent back as-is. They did this same day, totally ignoring my description. When I asked what to do next, I was told that if I sent the board back again and it posted, they'd mail it back. Rinse and repeat.

Other Thoughts: What is it with RMA departments? Do you guys think I made this up? Do you think I want to waste my time taking apart my build, being without my main photo editing machine for weeks, and spend $10 to send a functioning board back to you? Seriously?

Newegg rocks. This board, when functioning, is great. DFI the company blows. Fair warning, I will not be a repeat buyer of their products.

4 out of 5 eggsITS GOOD

Pros: Very Easy setup. Low price. 4 Memory slots. Very fast.
My partner and I love the two PS-2 ports for the mouse and keyboard! That way, all USB ports are saved for faster accesssories. Running Phenom II, Curcial DDR3 1333 (over clocked to 1600), WINDOWS XP SP3. No Compliants (Yet).

Cons: No USB 3.0. Had to purchase a 3.0 card (29.99).

Other Thoughts: Windows 7 is garbage. This board had problems with it (as most I have run in too), but we don't like Microsoft's new "Vista 7" OS anyway - its nothing but VISTA in disguise with a new face and wardrobe.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat as HTPC

Pros: Worked with Window 7 64 from 1st boot till......... HDMI to my 42" LG LCD is awesome! Have a Phenom II x4 945 installed with 4G's of memory. Using onboard video for output.

Cons: 1st board installed windows and started a slow death spiral shortly thereafter. Began with random lock ups then only booting with bios clearing, then no boot. Tried other mem, power supply, no go. RMA'd to Newegg and #2 is working like a champ!

Other Thoughts: If using HDMI for audio and video ensure you have settings in bios set up or you may be missing audio!

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: The reason I bought this board was because I had heard it might be able to unlock the 4th core in an AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz BE, and I was right. After updating the BIOS to the "beta" version available on DFI's site, and setting ACC to "Auto," I had a 4th core for free! Very cool, I highly recommend that little trick, it'll save you some dough.

It's an extremely overclockable board with solid caps. I've heard good things about DFI boards, so I went with it . I'm done with BioStar garbage, that's for sure.

I also picked this one because it has both optical and coaxial digital audio ports. Turns out, I don't actually need the coaxial like I originally thought, but I guess it's nice to have it there.

Cons: The audio is giving me issues in Windows 7 x64. The front mic input doesn't work, and I haven't been able to get 5.1 surround from it yet, just 2-channel stereo. It's actually pretty annoying, and Realtek's site just plain sucks.

Being a Micro-ATX, some of the pins for front audio, USB, etc. are in spots that conflict with video card and the like. It's got a lot on it, but it's a tight fit. I put this board in an HTPC case, so that obviously didn't help. Not really a con per se, just a fact of life with a small board like this.

Other Thoughts: Crossfire with the built-in HD 4200 is useless. I thought that being a 4000-series onboard, it would be compatible with other 4000-series cards in a Crossfire. Negative. After some research, the best card that will match up with the onboard video is a 3450. I read somewhere that a single 3650 is better than Crossfired 3450s, which is essentially what you get. It should still push 1080p just fine (originally what I bought it for). I was pretty sad about the lame Crossfire capabilities, so I ended up buying an HD 4850 to get me by with Borderlands and the like until I build a new machine for Diablo 3 :D

The other DOA reviewers may have RAM compatibility issues. I went with Kingston HyperX 4GB DDR3 1600, one of the brands recommended by the manufacturer.

4 eggs because of the audio issues, and I blame ATI for the 785G chipset issues when it comes to Crossfire. Other than that, good board.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Can't say

Cons: DOA. Lights turn on, cpu fan spins, but no video. It doesn't even get to bios. I tried using vga, dvi, then installed a gpu and tested on it's vga and dvi, nothing.

Other Thoughts: Hoping the replacement works
