BSDs and Audio Malfunction
- Pros: Cheap and Runs ok...
- Cons: Every so often my computer freezes and BSDs, vista claims it's due to USB 2.0 drivers. I went to Biostar's sub par website and found the listed drivers for USB were only supported for Windows XP (or so the title states). I've updated all my drivers, but lock ups are becoming more frequent and making my PC unusable....
The audio for my mic is messed up, not sure what the deal is there. I have to turn the boost up to 20db and my voice becomes horridly distorted...
The motherboard was kind of awkward to fit to my case, i had to cut some of the metal paneling out of my case to get it to fit properly.
- Other Thoughts: Tech support seems fairly unresponsive....
BOUGHT IT USED A YEAR AGO STILL WORKS
- Pros: EXCELLENT BOARD ALL AROUND.EVEN THOUGH IT HAS THE BEST BUILT IN ONBOARD VIDEO CHIP.I STILL WISH IT WAS BETTER SO I DIDN'T NEED TO ADD A PCI-EXPRESS CARD.I ADDED AMD Phenom II X4 940 , G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 .Overclocked like crazy
- Cons: NO CONS
- Other Thoughts: Since I owned this more than a year,I want to share my thoughts.A couple of days ago I thought the motherboard died for no reason. It just didn't want to boot.No noise,no lights ,nothing. It was actually my power supply that fried. So if this happens to you test the PSU first before RMA
take a chance
- Pros: built-in power/reset switches, hdmi, fast ethernet, hd3300 integrated gpu, LED's, good price.
In fact, the mobo has a bazillion features, including overclocking and RAID setup
manual was decent enough, the hd audio was nice. definitely an upgrade from realtek ac 97. I had no hardware conflicts/problems installing the motherboard.
honestly, I was really happy until it couldn't keep time, see below
- Cons: I'm not sure how this is compared to other motherboards, but this board doesnt have the best positions for mounting holes (where you put the screws to attach to the tower/case). I felt like i was gonna break or bend the board badly trying to plug in the ide and power cables, since the holes are not on the edge but one to two inches in.
Despite those shortcomings, I was happy with the board until it wouldn't keep time. Figured it was a battery problem, so i switched in the battery from my old mobo and it worked fine. About 5 days later, the time/date regressed again. That's when i decided to RMA it. I sent Biostar an email about at least getting a replacement battery, but never heard back, but that was before the time regressed after the new battery.
- Other Thoughts: In the end, take a chance with this board. It has many excellent features, but it's production seems faulty at best, considering my experience and the experience of others. I would have given this board 4 eggs if it had worked. I bought it to go with:
