1 out of 5 eggsBiostar Just Lost a Longtime User

Pros: decent board while it worked

Cons: this board died a few months after purchase. I sent it back to Biostar paying for the shipping myself. They sent it back, I installed it and the onboard video had artifacts at the post screen! I sent it back again, paying shipping again! I got it back 2 days ago and the onboard LAN now wont work.

This is just bad all the way around! I have a NIC in it now and it seems to be working ok for the moment...but the fact I had a new board and was sent 2 refurbished ones, or 2 repair attempts on my original board, doesnt bode well for the quality of the repairs.

I dont overclock, I dont use any oddball parts requiring odd voltages to work. I have spent in excess of 10,000 dollars with newegg in the last 2 years. Many of the boards I purchased were biostars.

I am replacing it with an Asrock and saying goodbye to Biostar, I cant have this going on with my clients systems any longer.

Other Thoughts: Biostar has really dropped the ball on this, for the last time.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome board, awesome price

Pros: great feature set for a nice price - love Biostar's CPU fan speed control - wish everyone else's was this good, wish they had it on more than 1 fan too.

Cons: not a big deal for such an inexpensive board but it wouldn't quite play 1080 movies in Linux/Ubuntu 10.04 without eventually skipping a little and/or losing audio video sync. FF or RW would sync things back up & temporarily stop the skipping but you dont want to watch a movie like that. Pay a few bucks more and get the TA785G3HD from BIOSTAR - I also have that board and its very similar as far as chipset, but plays 1080 movies perfectly in Ubuntu - some are hard to get Ubuntu to find right codecs for, but eventually you'll find one that'll prompt it to download the proper codecs.

Other Thoughts: If you don't care about 1080 playback, save some $ and get this board - its awesome and low power too, around 35W to 40W with Sempron 140 and about a 80% efficient PSU (don't know what efficiency it is at 40W but its not 80). Also has plenty of expandability - perfect for most people.

1 out of 5 eggs1.95v for memeory?!

Pros: It shipped quickly
It had pretty pictures
It was cheap
It was more than capable as a lower end gaming mobo for my wifes computer
It probably would have worked great

Did you know C-usa is a highly inappropriate word?

Cons: The day I was to receive I noticed a few comments on the voltage for memory. I had ordered the cheapest ddr2 800 I could put my hands on for my wife's new gaming rig. By default this CHEAP motherboard overvolts the memory to 1.95v That would have DESTROYED value 1.8v non-heatspreader memory I bought. This wasn't in the description, it wasn't even on Biostars website. I had to see a physical comment and Google for it. I had to drive 80 miles round trip to get a motherboard from Comp usa to finish my wifes new build...which actually turned out to be a pretty good deal even with tax, shocking.

Did you know C-usa is a highly inappropriate word?

Other Thoughts: This isn't Neweggs fault AT ALL. The moment I had it in my hand I called and they issued an RMA with no restock fee as the item had not even been opened. I LOVE NEWEGG. This is however the manufacturers fault. It makes no sense to sell a budget ddr2 board only to have to purchase premium 1.95-2v ddr800 memory for it. This should have been listed in the specs as "warning: may kill your - edit: stuff - if you use the wrong memory."

Newegg as always is on the ball, best customer service ever. I had to buy a mobo for the wife somewhere else...I feel like I have cheated, sorry Egg. Take me back, we won't tell the wife?

Manufacturer Response:

Biostar has tested many kinds of memory, including 1.8v value memory. Biostar purposely set memory voltage to start at 1.95v for stability and compatibility issues. There are some memory in market even though marked at 1.8v, does not run stable, when set for 1.95v the system would run stable. We would like customers to enjoy product knowing that Biostar done many testing to eliminate potential instabilities.

4 out of 5 eggsNo troubles

Pros: Great value board. Part of a Christmas PC build for my wife, no issues with it so far, handles everything she throws at it with onboard video.

Cons: None noted.

Other Thoughts: Now if her monitor was just still working.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good board for basic system, onboard video is better than I thought

Cons: Received Ver. 6.2 which doesnt have ACC

DOES NOT have SB710 southbridge chip as list by both Newegg and Biostar, uses older SB700 which would explain the lack of ACC

Newegg and Biostar both need to work on accuracy issues and hopefully list the Ver. 6.4 board (which has ACC) as a separate SKU to avoid confusion

Other Thoughts: Would have been nice to have HDMI and 7.1 audio (shouldnt these be standard by now?)

would have liked to see a PCI-E x1 slot and an extra fan header too

5 out of 5 eggsBiostar underrated?

Pros: Low price, reliable and trouble free.

Cons: The board is a great price but ddr2 prices are climbing. Don't use the updated audio drivers from Biostar's site, go straight to Realtek.

Other Thoughts: This is my 2nd A785GE and my 3rd Biostar board total and I've never had any issues...yet.

I recently built a budget gaming pc for a friend, w7 64, Corsair 450, Dual Core 3.2 Regor, GTS 250 and 2x2 gigs of Gskill ddr2 800 that I had laying around. The computer runs fantastic.

I also have the same board in my pc which has been running strong for a year.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal

Pros: Worked perfectly out of the box. Flies along and does not feel at all sluggish with Win7 which is great for the price with 2GB RAM.

Cons: Non

Other Thoughts: Got this for a media centre I built. Got this with it #
* 1 x AMD Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7GHz Socket AM3 45W Single-Core Processor SDX140HBGQBOX
* 1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Made an awesome media centre with Win 7. The hardware cost me $130. Would have been more but I already had a copy of Windows and memory.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate to my recent review

Pros: Update to my previous review: I noted that it was a very good board to use in a home file server and that the integrated peripherals were very economical and performed well; but I was concerned because their rebate team had indicated that I did not include a receipt which I thought I did. I attempted to contact them and quickly received a reply that I had included the purchase order but not the receipt or invoice. I immediately sent them the required documents and they updated my rebate status.

Cons: none about the hardware.... now I have to wait for the postal service to deliver my rebate.

Other Thoughts: Rebates are a two way communication between a manufacturer and their consumer. Often there are small issues that cause the rebate system to fail. Although I think the world would be a better place without rebates, its nice to know that some manufacturers, BIOSTAR, will put forth the additional effort to ameliorate unfortunate situations.
