4 out of 5 eggsGood budget AM3 board

Pros: Core Unlocker worked perfectly.

Cheap.

Cons: VRM and mosfets are subpar, so you're not going to be able to OC very well, but what do you expect out of a board this cheap?

5 out of 5 eggsFlawless. Over a year and still running great.

Pros: This motherboard, although my first board, is an excellent budget board. If you want to get started with a simple/cheap AMD set up this is your sure fire way to start. After a year of using it i have had ZERO problems and i haven't even tried unlocking BIOS to OC because well i can't afford proper cooling.

Cons: My only grip is that it only supports 16 Gbs of RAM not that i need more.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Motherboard...but verify

Pros: This motherboard has been working good for me for almost a year now.

You can look at my specs, but essentially it's great. I've got room for expansion and upgrading and everything.

Got it open box for $41.

It's red/black, like most of the rest of my innards.

Cons: Ok, here's where things get messy. I haven't completely confirmed this (ran a few memory tests with all slots occupied, and the good slots occupied, but none with just the supposedly bad RAM slots occupied. It could be that all four slots are working great even today, but I've had too many bad memory tests to be sure.

I've also had problems with PCI slots not showing up...but sometimes they do show up, on the other hand.

NO IDE. I was rather surprised with this when I received the mobo, but I guess it's to be expected. I had a 160GB hard drive and a pair of near-identical 40GB drives I'd have liked to try RAID with, but no go, even with an IDE PCI card. (couldn't figure out the drivers)

No onboard video...

Only 4 rear USB. My case has a couple of front-mounted USB ports, but even with them, I find myself occupying most of them without adding all my devices.

Other Thoughts: My computer:

$35 NZXT Gamma (1 included 120mm fan) (Newegg)
$15 2 Rosewill 120mm fans top mounted. (Blue LEDs) (Newegg)
$41 Biostar A870U3 AM3/DDR3/USB3/SATA 6Gbps/2xPCIe16x (1@4x) (Newegg; open box)
$35 AMD Athlon II 4X 620 2.6Ghz (unlockable L3 cache; don't usually keep it on 'cause it disables temp readings.) (cragslist)
$15 Rosewill RCX-Z1 CPU fan/heatsink (Newegg)
$28 PNY XLR8 2x2 GBs DDR3 1600Mhz (Newegg; rebate)
$41 Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB HDD (Newegg; open box)
$25 Powercolor Radeon HD5770 1GB GDDR5 850/1200 (craigslist)
$15 550W PSU (might be High Power) (craigslist)

5 out of 5 eggsBiostar all the way

Pros: Rock solid for 2 years with a Phenom X4 965 and 16 gig of Kingston Hyper-X 1066 mhz.

Cons: I didn't get it for my build until AFTER my Asus board died.

Other Thoughts: Asus refused to honor the warranty because I didn't stick to their pathetically short list of supported RAM. If the rem is the right speed and other specs., it should work. It DID work for a year before dying. Their loss is Biostar's gain!!

1 out of 5 eggsWhere's my rebate?

Pros: None

Cons: Lied about rebate.

Other Thoughts: Company did not send rebate. Why are these companies allowed to do this?

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Board

Pros: BIOS easy to config, no odd slot locations, no driver issues.

Cons: System rear fan power connection a little too far, requires extension to reach. Not really their fault, it's a case design flaw.

Other Thoughts: Absolutely no complaints. Yes I put in a con but it isn't their fault I picked a case with a short fan cable... Still someone will want to know it's a possible shortcoming when selecting this board and using an existing case.

3 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: Worked right out of the box and I've yet to deal with any deal breaking issues (see cons and other thoughts)

Cons: this is where it gets messy, it does not support AMD overdrive as the MoBo states, it is not Overclock friendly at all, and worst of all the motherboard only has 2 fan connecters a single 4pin PWM and a single 3pin PWM So if your like me and you require extra cooling you'll be stuck searching for Splitters, buying a fan controller, or forced to run the fan at 100% power at all times with molex adapters

Other Thoughts: Getting extra cooling in my system is a nightmare because my CPU fan uses the only 4 pin PWM and they dont seem to make splitters for 3 pin PWMs. Looks like Ill have to drop fifty bucks on a fan controller or be forced to deal with another system meltdown next heatwave

2 out of 5 eggsGreat while it lasted

Pros: Sata 3 6 Gb/s
USB 3
Good FSB
Easy layout - fast install
Sturdy feel
Unlocked my Phenom X2 cores
No Bloatware!

Cons: Randomly started freezing my HDD 4 months after I built it. I RMA'd HDD with the same result - then I randomly switched the SATA port it was plugged into and it was good for another month. This would continue to happen every once in a while and I painstakingly continued to switch the SATA ports.

Now this happens every couple hours or days. It's incredibly frustrating and no one seems to have an explanation.

Other Thoughts: Biostar seemed like a solid yet inexpensive alternative, but I won't be going with them in the future... Should've bought an ASUS...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board for not much money

Pros: This board just works. I have an AMD Phemon II X6 1100T processor and 16GB memory and it flies. Programs and games start up much faster and shut down much faster. FEAR 2 used to take a couple of minutes to load on my old dual-core Intel but now it's just a couple of seconds - not even enough time to read the full text between levels before it's ready.

Cons: The only real con is the rebate. I filled out the rebate form and mailed it and the requested paperwork to Biostar last November right after I bought the board and I haven't heard a word from them. Also, try as I might, I can't find any way on their website to check on the status of the rebate.

Other Thoughts: If I don't get the rebate I will never buy Biostar again. If I do, then I certainly would buy from them again.
