Good solid Mobo Don't let brand name deter you
- Pros: It works, it has good spacing of expansion slots and a lot of peripheral ports. 6 usb port 2 eSATA. I highly recommend this board. Also the option to switch between DDR2 and DDR3 is very nice for people looking to upgrade.
- Cons: The wifi add on is kinda a pain to set up. I don't use it because I use a wired connection. I would like more PCI slots but I guess with crossfire support you have to drop the extra ports.
- Other Thoughts: I know its an off brand, but don't let that stop you from getting a great deal on a good board. Similiar boards cost alot more and this is a great deal.
Fantastic MoBo for all users
- Pros: Used it in a rig built for a friend. The motherboard instructions were very clear, and everything worked as it was supposed to. Overclocking was incredibly easy from the BIOS, and the included WiFi module was interesting. I used it with good results while I was testing it, but I don't imagine that it's terribly practical except in very peculiar situations. I also didn't expect the e-sata capabilities.
- Cons: Non-essential securing clip for a PCI-E slot snapped off with almost no pressure while trying to install an admittedly-too-large Nvidea 260 GTX. Included WiFi PCI dongle didn't feel secure, but I didn't experience any problems. I would have appreciated if ASRock included more SATA data/power cables, as I ran out and had to dig up more. There doesn't appear to be a manufacturer's warranty (nothing mentioned in manual or on box), making it the ONLY piece of hardware in the rig not to have one included.
- Other Thoughts: I actually bought the motherboard for its specs outside of the additional WiFi capability. The product is undervalued given its WiFi/DDR2 capability, but would still be even if they didn't include the WiFi/DDR2 capabilities (friend using the rig isn't taking advantage of either). The BIOS was loaded with features (most admittedly unnecessary). Included sound card also worked quite well. The AsRock overclocking tool may be useful for some advanced users looking to measure temperature and do quick stress tests to adjust their numbers, but it was unnecessary, IMO, and anyone not familiar enough with the BIOS to overclock would probably cause damage to their rig due to the inherent inability to explain what is "normal" for their CPU/RAM/etc.
The motherboard tries to be everything for everyone, and, with a few exceptions, meets its goal quite well. I'd buy this again if I have another DDR3 value gaming rig to build soon.
Great mobo
- Pros: X48, works great
- Cons: Don't buy if you plan on Over clocking. Bios doesn't allow OC'ing. There is a program but it doesn't work very well and only applies the OC when logged into vista.
- Other Thoughts: Wont OC with linux because bios wont allow OC
