3 out of 5 eggsTPM & SSD Problems

Pros: Lots of leading edge features.

Cons: Bought 2 Crucial C300 SSDs to use on Marvell SATA3 as RAID0. Running backup to WHS consistently caused computer to crash and lose all knowledge of SATA3. Found a forum on Corsair website describing similar symptoms with their SSD drive. Looks like there may be a problem with Marvell SATA3 controller or a conflict with Marvell and Intel ICH10R SATA2 controller? ASRock tech support recommended returning the motherboard.

I was also unable to get TPM working. Evidently TPM 1.2 spec doesn't ensure the pins on a given TPM will match pins on the motherboard!? Winbond TPM I used 3-5 years ago in Asus board would not work in this ASRock board. Was unable to get a clear answer from ASRock support about what TPM would work in this board. Was told they should match Asus. Due to both problems I returned this and got an Asus board instead. The TPM which didn't work on ASRock worked right away in Asus. Obviously some weakness in ASRock TPM implementation.

Other Thoughts: I've typically purchases Asus in the past. Read good things about ASRock and decided to try this board.

Had to deal via email with their Tech Support for two serious issues. It would often take several days to get a response. (Not good given limited number of days for RMA.) Email responses were often vague or ambigous. A little help, but not enough to solve my problems.

I never did get a resolution from ASRock about why I couldn't get either of two TPM chips working on this motherboard. Especially given that both TPM chips worked on different Asus motherboards. (Thus the problem seems to be with the ASRock TPM design?)

Since SSD crashes look like they're common to other unrelated systems, and given TPM may not be needed by most users, I've rated this motherboard at 3 eggs. Other components on the motherboard seemed fine.

Newegg was great about handling a replacment motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsMother Ship

Pros: Nice layout, battery not under and cards. Fan pin connectors placed well, front headers at bottom of board, clr cmos button on the back (high end feature) power on/off button, great color scheme, numerical post led and great bios (loaded with features)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Asus owns ASRock so you know that this is a solid buy. This board can't be beat for it's features, power phase and cooling. If your going nuts trying to find the best value in an 1156 board this is it. One of the MANY features of this board is "Good Night LED". I love it as it turns off all the LED lights on the case if you don't want the distraction.

1 out of 5 eggsTurbo Boost not working with i7 875K

Pros: None at this point

Cons: Turbo boost not working with i7 875k(reed my earlier review) on replacement MB I've received though it came with different PCIe socet (with lock on it) and already with v1.40 bios. Upgrade to latest (one week old) v1.50 bios not help at all.

Other Thoughts: Contacted Intel to see if it possible CPU issue and was assured that only MB can possibly be responsible for Turbo Boost not working properly (bios). Will contact Newegg and see if they have working MB or if I've just lost money since they don't have return for refund for this MB.

1 out of 5 eggsTurbo Boost not working

Pros: Perfect layout, futures and price.

Cons: Turbo boost not working on i7-875k with latest bios (1.40) and no Overcloking. Its only bost from x22 to x24 on all 4 cores load. If you load only 1, 2 or 3 cores it keep same x24 instead of rising it to x26 and x27 (3.6GHz) - all on stuck setings, and Corsair H50 cooler (temprature is low). I can easy bost all for core turbo to x25 (3.33) or even more - but whatever I did it not rise multiplier at less then 4 (actualy 8 with HT) cores running.

Other Thoughts: No usefull information on any of ASRock forums, Tech Support over the phone (just like RMA over the phone does not exist). Manufacturer wabsite refer you to reseller and inform you that all warranty clames and support must be done through reseller. No return for refund on newegg..... I should bought "brand name" motherboard for few more bucks. No wonder it's only 2 review other then my for this board .... Try not to repeat my mistake.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Very easy to set up. I put it in a NZXT Beto Evo case, and the only problem I had was the length of the lead from the power supply OZC stealth Xtream 600W, (mounted on bottom) was almost to short to reach the 12 volt connectors. So far a very stable board, but haven't tried to much of the over clocking stuff, to which it seems to have a truck load of.

Cons: Non really just take in mind the power leads and case design when building.

Other Thoughts: It went into my new system I built after my last one was stolen. Which leads me to a few reminders. If you live in a crime prone area, get good locks, a dog, or a security system. and BACK up your stinking data, more often then I did. Lost some files I couldn't replace.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Logical layout, the diagram in the manual is very easy to understand. Installation with my Intel i5 processor was very simple, no issues with the BIOS or installing Windows 7.
Looks really slick in my windowed case.

Cons: I/O shield is a little flimsy
