Glad I stumbled onto this option for a board. Like some of the others in the comments-section, I too have a 775 Intel dual core processor and fan laying around that served me well, and some DDR2 sticks of ram. Trying to build a e-mail + Google cruise for my aged mother.

Question though, the board my parts came off had multiple rows of memory slots that were loaded with RAM. Don't I need more than two rows to take advantage of the "dual core" thing?

Also, are there any other boards avail yet that will take a 775 Intel and DDR2?

First question: Two little physical RAM can affect the overall performance of any system no matter what processor you have. If you originally had four 1GB sticks of DDR2 RAM, you're better off buying two 2GB sticks for a board with only two slots if you have Windows Vista, 7 or 8. Four slots vs. two doesn't matter.

Question 2: You can still find other LGA 775 boards but they are scarce and can be expensive. That's one reason why I bought the ASRock G31N-GS

will an intel pentium 4 524 3.06ghz be compatable with this mb?

The slot type is the same (775) but according to the ASRock website this motherboard is "Compatible with all FSB 1600/1333/1066/800 MHz CPUs".

The Pentium 4 524 runs at a 533 MHz front side bus speed which is not listed there.

So I don't know 100 percent, but I would have to say it would NOT work.

I have successfully used this board with the native supplied drivers on XP and Windows 7.  No issues with performance or stability on either OS.

The Service Tag number would have to be known to find out what processor is in the computer. If thr processor is Socket 775 yoou could check to see if your particular processor is compatable with the G31M. One thing to keep in mind is that you will loose your Windows OEM license unless you get an identical Dell mother board and switch the bios chip (if it is socketed). If you aren't running Windows it isn't a problem.

absolutely.  I did.  now serving as an HTPC.  I can't remember if I did x86 or x64 though.

P.S. check MS's Windows 7 HCL (hardware compatibility list) (google it-can't have links to other sites here.) enter in the model #, and it'll tell you if is compat for win7, even win 8, 8.1 (see dropdowns)

Sorry, the cooler master hypo was for a newer x99 board. The cpu  fan on this board is just the generic fan that came with the Intel chip.
