2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I like Asrock m/b's and this one appealed to me. But as it turned out it was a bad purchase due to when I bought it.
Very disappointed with N/E and Asrock timing to advertised the newer FM2A88X !

Cons: This M/B was discontinued a few days after I received it. Newegg's page for it had and still has a banner stating A new version of this M/B is available, It also states Discontinued. I fell that I could have bought the ASRock FM2A88X-ITX, for the same price with much better attributes, including 2 HDMI ports 1/in, 1/out

Other Thoughts: Gave Newegg 2 eggs because of how this M/b was offered and the A88 was not, when I made my purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome HTPC board

Pros: Don't even know where to begin. This thing is loaded with a TON of great features on the this tiny little board. Here are some that I can think of off the top of my head.
- 7 onboard SATA connections, 1 eSATA
- Supports up to 32GB of RAM (pricey, but insane)
- UEFI support For SSD's
- 7.1 Surround if using for media PC.
- Plenty of USB 3.0 and 2.0 connections onboard and in back.
Being a person who has built 5 Intel i7 builds every time they came out with a new chip since the bloomfield chip, this FM2 build surprised me as well as this board.

Cons: Heat in BIOS seems off. Once installed the ASRock xtreme manager (fan manager) it seemed to be fine and reading the temps correctly. Also, if you plan on buy an aftermarket heatsink, it takes very limited types as the bottom plate does not come off easily. I just used the standard AMD heatsink.

Other Thoughts: Being the size of this thing, this is a GREAT BOARD with TONS of features for its size. Now, I bought this against the abysmal reviews stating that they had BSOD's and bent pins on the CPU's and a couple with DOA's. I have ordered dozens of motherboards and CPU's from newegg and never had issues with pins on the motherboard or CPU's. I did not let the steer me away from this board. DOA's happen when you manufacturing 1000's of boards it is bound to happen. But, all of the other ones are user errors with the other hardware not being compatible with the board or they have bad hardware. As far as it went on my build was piece of cake, had no issues.

- ASRock FM2A85X-ITX
-AMD A6-6400K Richland 3.9GHz Socket FM2 65W
- 4Gb of G. Skill 1600 (PC3 12800)
- SILVERSTONE Milo series ML05B (Case)
- SILVERSTONE ST45SF 450W SFX12V 80 PLUS (PS)
- 128GB SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD128BW
- 80GB HDD for programs\DVRs (had laying around)

machine gets a 5.9 on the windows index rating. And it was built for about 300 bucks. Could not have asked for anything more. Had the SSD, memory and the HDD laying around from old builds. Use for streaming and listening to music, watching live tv on windows media center. I will be buying this board again for my NAS build for its abundance in SATA ports.

4 out of 5 eggsJust one thing..

Pros: Solid/stable
Flash directly from bios on DHCP enabled networks!!! (so convenient)
No issues with Richland support

Cons: I know this can't be helped because of ITX specs, but I ran into an issue with my build where a low profile cooler was pushing on my ram modules. The cooler also blocked the USB 3 header, which is very near the cpu socket. Just some things to consider when building on a tiny platform. Measure twice, buy once.

Very little overclocking headroom on the d4 chipset. I bought a locked chip and was forced to raise the base clock to get my ram up to spec. South bridge hits a wall very quickly, even with voltage increases as high as 40%. I imagine this is mostly my fault for not buying the unlocked chip but the limiting component is on the motherboard not the processor.

As always, bios documentation could be a bit more thorough.

When will manufacturers quit putting VGA outputs on the back panel? Two DVI's would have been great!

Other Thoughts: Overall a great product. Updating firmware while in the bios is fantastic. This is great news for linux users who'd like to flash their boards.

5 out of 5 eggsASRock FM2 A85X

Pros: To start this board was a replacement for a P55 chipset and an i3 HTPC that was ageing. So some of my comparison is between the two. I also tend to go Intel for speed and reliability and haven't owned a AMD sense the FX55 I had a long time ago. First off the install was flawless and easy. Combined with a A8 5600K (trying to at least match the speed of my i3 550) Everything worked well. drivers install, sound, graphics all good with my Yamaha and bit streaming. Performance was good. It's just as fast as the i3 but a little smother in transitions programs to programs. I had some headaches with the i3 set up and sound and video. Not with this set up. And with 7 SATA 6.0 connections I was set for a great HTPC. The picture had a little more vivid color. The CPU fan was louder and I expected that. Needs an aftermarket one. The X boost work well after I figured it out. You need to download the complete manual from the web site. Basically its one button over clocking on boot up. About 300 Mhz.

Cons: The only issue I had was the CPU temp sensors. Using the included AXTU overclocking and monitoring program it would show one temp. It seamed low 48c under load with prime. I tried Hardware monitor, CPU z Real temp and all read really wrong temps. CPU cores like 5c, 25c, -15c just not right. I did a bunch of testing and the most reliable temp monitoring was GPU-z and the AXTU. Under load the CPU at 3.9 was 56c and GPU 70c Not bad temps for such a small heat sink.

Other Thoughts: I had a 6670 laying around I used with my i3 so i tried Dual Graphics. It work but the added gaming ability it not that much. I played Dirt 3 and it ran on Med but was glitchy. It ran on low without the card just fine. Overall I have a more compatible updated HTPC and better graphics reliability quad core instead of dual without a dedicated card so Im happy

5 out of 5 eggsGreat mini-itx board

Pros: Great little board. I used this with an A8-6600K, and in a Bitfenix prodigy to make a compact gaming computer for my brother. Motherboard itself is great, stable and the BIOS is easy to use.

Cons: A few cons:
#1 the fan control software both in windows and the BIOS leaves a lot to be desired, it's functional but doesn't have a ton of control.

#2: Overclocking options for voltages aren't necessarily the easiest to use, but I'm not really overclocking this particular system anyway so it's a moot point for me.

#3. Can't use a cooler that uses a backplate, as it will hit some of the small capacitors on the back of the board and short out contacts.

Other Thoughts: Using as a gaming system with...
-Bitfenix Prodigy
-AMD A8-6600k with Cooler Master Hyper TX3 cooler
-8GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1333
XFX Radeon HD 7850 DD/2GB
-128GB Sandisk Ultra SSD
-500GB Western Digital Blue
-Windows 7 Pro

4 out of 5 eggsBetter than my last Asrock

Pros: Size, easy to set up and worked right away after I fixed my mess up

Cons: Hot, like others have said,

Other Thoughts: I would have loved for it to have a PCI express 1 slot,

This Asrock performs so much better than my 990FX extreme 3 the performance level on that has gone down over the year and 8 months I have owned so was a bit shy of picking this one up.

Has worked like a champ since I powered it on

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good

Pros: Easy setup. Easy bios update. No problems. Runs fast and cool.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: 2x4 GB G.Skill ram at 1600. A-8 5800K stock for now. Makes perfect HTPC. After bios update to 1.60 everything runs smooth.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent board

Pros: Excellent features for an ITX board. Lots of SATA (too much?) ports and USB3 and 2 internal USB2 headers. Supports best Richlands.

Cons: One PCI-E slot is one too little. Consider that most NIC cards are superior to board-level Realtek (especially under stress), that I'd wanted one for NIC and one for either TV tuner or Video card. The no-back plate is worth an egg off since you're severely limited in after market coolers: Noctua 9 basically. Anyone messing with Noctua 12 needs to know you cannot use both RAM slots and cannot use the PCI-E slot either.

Other Thoughts: I'm not really down on the board. It's really good. It's just that ITX is usually in a small case, and combined you get crushed on vertical limit of coolers. This board and Silverstone milo 3 make a poor USB3 connection (flimsy).
