2 out of 5 eggsdescent board

Pros: more features to price

Cons: It was VERY DIFFICULT trying to get this motherboard to function properly!! it took me eight hours!! the mouse and keyboard wouldn't work in windows. couldn't install my drivers from disc because of that. Therefore I was stuck!

Other Thoughts: I had to go through safe mode with networking and install usb drivers though internet from there to get everything right. then went back in normal windows mode and my mouse and keyboard was functioning.

5 out of 5 eggsGood so far

Pros: Has worked well so far. I'm not much of a power user, but it seems to come with a lot of features for a good price.

Cons: Didn't come with the network adapter installed, so spent an hour or so beating myself up and searching on my phone why I couldn't connect to the internet. Included driver DVD did have necessary drivers on it and was easy to use. Just an inconvenient hiccup that is easily fixed.

3 out of 5 eggsLots of features

Pros: Lots of features for the price. Very solid entry level mobo. Good build quality.

Cons: USB ports are picky. I cant get some of them to work. Board doesnt see USB mouse and keyboard no matter what Ive tried. Updates UEFI BIOS and all OS areas. Still no luck. Sound never worked in Linux Mint or Windows 7 ultimate. Ordered a cheap PCI sound card and works fine now.

Other Thoughts: Overall pretty good board for the price. I just hate that I cant get the USB ports to recognize the mouse and keyboard and the sound doesnt work. Probably some driver issue somewhere.

2 out of 5 eggsDifficult for Server Install - LAN driver Failure

Pros: Well packaged and protected when shipped. Had gigibit Lan, four Sata6 and two Sata3 connectors which fit my needs.

Cons: This board deserves 5 eggs, but... Windows 2012 Drivers for the Gigabit LAN are not provided by ASRock, and the provided Windows 8 drivers cannot be installed. The documentation does not state that this board and provided software cannot be used as-is with anything other than Windows 8. If I had know about this limitation, I would have bought a board with a different LAN chipset.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this motherboard to use as the basis for a home server running Windows 2012. Everything works perfectly except for the LAN driver. After attempting to install the driver many times, I finally found a blog (nearly deaf - Intel i217-V network drivers for Windows Server 2012) that described how to modify the provided .inf so that the Win8 driver can be installed for use with Win2013.
Apparently, this is more an issue from Intel and not ASRock. Intel has blocked the installing of the driver for the i217-V Lan chipset on anything other than Windows 8, even though Windows 2013 and Windows 8 are designed such that they both utilize the same drivers.
If you are going to install Windows 2012 make sure you avoid this motherboard and any other motherboard with the Intel LAN chip. If I had known about this limitation a week ago, I would have purchased a different motherboard to avoid the hassle.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize that you having difficulty with LAN onboard.
Unfortunately, due to Intel chipset limitation (Intel I217V), the driver for Server OS is not supported.

5 out of 5 eggsAs Expected

Pros: Can be overclocked, nice BIOS, enough USB 2.0 & 3.0 ports

Cons: lacking onboard sound, could have used atleast 5.1 surround.

Other Thoughts: This is an awesome board, it has everything you need to build a budget PC. It allows overclocking of CPU if you are into that, it has enough ports. PCI x1 ports could have been placed with the PCI ports, where they are right now it is not really usable.

4 out of 5 eggsASRock Bios Update

Pros: I posted a remark yesterday titled "Clickety clack" so....
I emailed ASRock and they responded back to update my bios from 1.06 to 1.09 and when I did everything is working fine!

Cons: I shouldn't have to flash the bios right out of the box!

Other Thoughts: Other than my negitive experience with the bios update the motherboard is working great!

3 out of 5 eggsClickety clack

Pros: Easy to tweek UEFI bios. Works great with Windows 7 and Linux Mint 16. I love the i5!

Cons: The big problem started with my purchase of a usb3.0 front panel....I turned off the power strip and plugged it in but when I cut on the power strip the computer power supply started clicking and the fans rev up and down. I unplugged it and every thing is normal. Tried a video card (pcie2.1) in the top slot (pcie3.0) but it did the same thing. I moved the video card to the pcie 2.0 slot and it works fine. I submitted it to ASRock and I am waiting for a reply.

Other Thoughts: Bought this board 10/30/13 installed it wk later. Bought the front panel 11/21/13 installed a couple of weeks later.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard;
Unplug the ATX power.
Remove the mainboard from chassis, place the mainboard on mainboard’s box
Clear the CMOS
Check the mainboard’s CPU socket pins are normal (should be pointing same way and pattern)
Reseat the CPU with heatsink fan as well if socket pins are normal
Test with single memory module (non-ECC, un-buffered)
Plug monitor to onboard VGA
Plug the 24 pins + 8 or 4 pins ATX power
Plug the chassis power switch to mainboard's system panel power header, and try again
Turn the power on (using onboard power button) to check if its post
If you have any technical issues or warranty questions please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We can assist you shortly.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value

Pros: Great price/features.

Cons: None - I would've liked eSata, but at this price, not a complaint.

Other Thoughts: Great balance of price and features. I've only recently used a few ASRock boards, both for myself and builds for friends after using nothing but Gigabyte in the past. I've been very pleased with the 4 ASRock boards I've built systems with in the past few years. As long as they keep making quality boards at an excellent price point, I will be a repeat customer.

4 out of 5 eggsRunnin smooth and cool

Pros: Performance has been stellar, and the I5 Haswell I put in the board has been running consistently cool. Arma 3 in particular has received at least a couple of orders of magnitude's improvement with this board coupled with 8 Gigs of RAM and the new CPU.

Cons: Installation was not as smooth and painless as my typical experiences with the ASUS boards I normally buy. Also, compared to my old system, the new hardware seems to be giving Windows 7 troubles with suspend mode, but I haven't been able to confirm that the new hardware is the root cause.

Other Thoughts: I went with this board instead of my normal brand loyalties based on a recommendation from a friend and fellow system builder. For the price, I can't complain about the results.
