A great foundation for you to build a FM2+/FM2 APU-based system, the ASRock FM2A88M Extreme4+ Motherboard delivers performance, features, and quality at a great price. It's based on an AMD A88X (Bolton D4) chipset and supports an FM2+ 95W/FM2 100W processor. This motherboard is built to be stable and durable with an all solid capacitor design. Count on the high-density glass-fabric PCB that protects against short circuits caused by humidity. Turbocharge the performance with one key with X-Boost technology. Experience blistering data transfer with the native SATA III and USB 3.0 technology. The acclaimed ASRock XFast RAM, XFast LAN, and XFast USB are also included, for a fast, smooth experience in both local operation and on the Internet.

  • newegg XFast 555 Technology Exclusive ASRock XFast 555 technology — including XFast RAM, XFast LAN, and XFast USB technology — optimizes your user experience with fast response and low latency. To boost performance, XFast RAM creates a virtual disk from the system memory. For Photoshop, It can perform five times faster than before. ASRock XFast LAN is a smart productivity tool that helps you manage your Internet application priorities, simplify your digital life, and accomplish more. XFast USB technology boosts up the USB transfer to a new level, enabling more data to be transferred in less time.
  • newegg High-Density Glass-Fabric PCB What you’ve never understood about your computer is that it is scared to death of water: H2O, humidity, or whatever you’d like to call it. And even though you do not see the water, there may actually be lots of excessive moisture in the air killing your motherboard silently and slowly. No, your motherboard doesn’t melt when in contact with water like the Wicked Witch of the West, but it dies from short circuiting. Luckily, ASRock has a new High-Density Glass-Fabric PCB design that reduces the gaps between the PCB layers to protect the motherboard against electrical shorts caused by humidity.
  • newegg All Solid Capacitor Design ASRock is determined to use high-quality materials to build the best motherboards, that's why all the capacitors on this motherboard are built with 100% solid capacitors. These solid capacitors bring long-lasting durability and ultra-stable performance.
  • newegg X-Boost Brilliantly designed for smart overclocking, ASRock X-Boost Technology is able to unleash the hidden power of your CPUs. Simply press “X” when turning on the PC, X-Boost will automatically overclock the relative components to get a performance boost of up to 15.77%! With the smart X-Boost, overclocking the CPU becomes a nearly one-button process.
  • newegg Easy Driver Installer For users who don’t have an optical disk drive to install the drivers from our support CD, Easy Driver Installer is a handy tool in the UEFI. It installs the LAN driver to your system via a USB storage device, then downloads and installs the other required drivers automatically through the Internet – absolutley no CD or optical disk drive required!
  • newegg ASRock APP Shop The ASRock APP Shop is designed for your convenience. It provides various apps and support software for users to download. You can easily optimize your system, and keep your motherboard up to date, with the ASRock APP Shop.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than I thought

Pros: This little board has everything the average user could want. Good layout, locks to be well made. The second ASRock I've own, will be buying more.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Have been more of a Asus, Gigabyte and a few MSI boards guy, but ASRock will be included now. Real good board.

4 out of 5 eggsone of the better boards

Pros: 1 of the better FM2+ boards. has a decent VRM/Phase setup. has DVI AND VGA as well as a PS2 port. over this is a decent board.

Cons: no VRM heat sink, put some heat sinks on the VRMS they do get notably warm with a 100watt AP{U under full load.

it's not a super clocking top end board but, still pretty decent.

Other Thoughts: if you want a decent board with acceptable VRM/Phases this board is alright. it has some decent quality capacitors and mosfet transistors.

3 out of 5 eggsUgh!

Pros: Full micro .. 4 slots ram, 4 cards, 8 sata III's. seeming nice layout quality ect.

Have many ASRock boards this ones great, cept for one thing..

Cons: The A88X chip itself, on the board, gets hot, then lose mouse, keyboard and monitor . Computer stays on. have to hard reset. on occasion could not find my SSD, had to use older/smaller ssd to put a os on...then lost it too, then found after couple reboots.

Other Thoughts: Too much time went by to add it all up, thought it was a refurbed ssd card first time, I just replaced it with an older 60g ssd and all was find, then could not get it out of sleep, no wake, dead mouse, keyboard, mon in sleep. hard reboot only option. I said hmm.. turned off any sort of sleep or rest options, bios, monitor, screen savers ect. All is find, then no mouse, no keyboard monitor froze on last image.
Read, read read, the chip is overheating.. Box is plenty big for micro card, and is watercooled, so maybe with less box air its heating up, maybe it is over heating because it might be useing a thermal pad to contac with chip/sink; and not paste. Maybe its a usb device pluged into back.
Lots O maybes .
In the mean time,as I started my Newegg journey here, I had to hardboot and redo this lol.
So time ran out for simple return. I don'y want to to deal with any not simple returns, so next option is getting the heatsink off the chip and putting some paste on there , then maybe a liquid heatsink, then I'll check for a usb power prob :(

Ran out of fan headers fast...

4 out of 5 eggsPCI E 3.0 can use with FM2+ but not FM2

Pros: Has USB 3.0, works for what I want it for.

Cons: The PCI E 3.0 you need a Processor FM2+ can't use FM2 stupid why put it on a Motherboard if you can't use it beyond me. But everything else is good so far.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat The Second Time

Pros: HTPC features are just what I Wanted. I paired with A A6 Kaveri 7600. Excellent Sensors & Fan Controls. Ram runs @ 2133 G-Skill Ripjaws

Cons: My first board had a bad HDMI. But, The Second Is Great. Had to update the bios from 1.30 (Very Old ) To 2.40. had a A4 5300 laying around

I still give it 5 stars These things happen

Other Thoughts: The Added cost of returning the first board added on still came in reasonable to me. I love Asrock boards. Ive used them all. Gigabyte sensors have gone cheap. asrock still puts the features on the boards. I wish it had Mofset Heatsinks I will add them Myself.

1 out of 5 eggsBIOS problems

Pros: good layout.

Cons: everytime i make adjustments to the BIOS and reboot, hitting F2 or DEL to access BIOS again to make sure settings are ok, BIOS won't show anymore. screen is Black/Blank. i have to reset CMOS everytime to access BIOS again. the battery and jumper are covered by the video card, so i have to take it out all the time. in so doing, the PCIE lock broke off because of the many times i have to take it off. support ticket says ask dealer first. REALLY? if you use A-Tuning to check for updates, it will show updates even though you already have the latest versions.

Other Thoughts: will send this back and maybe stay away for awhile from ASROCK boards.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

5 out of 5 eggsThis Is AAaaSomE!!!

Pros: Great board Nice layout for an microAtx. Very feature rich, USB 3.0 AmD AHCI built in. Too many SATA connectors, Cpu stays frosty with Stock HS/fan. Crossfire Ready,(no SLI). ON-DIE graphics is slick...nice and neat..can play bf4 on low.. northbridge/southbridge stay nice and cool. The BIOS takes the cake as far as the most cool thing I've Ever seen It will download the Drivers' for the Onboard Network Interface Card/chipset and have it ready to go when you get into windows desktop. very neat, for those who don't care to install an dvd player into their computer. and the full mouse controls and sounds, very intuitive settings for advanced setup like memory and cpu oc'ing. X-boost for auto clocking...(for the lazy OC'er, Don't be lazy). Everything Is wrapped up and very well laid out comes with very Brief Manual, in like 12 different languages, you may have to do some research to figure out some settings in BIOS the Manual is severely lacking in Explainations of all the settings, but if you are already familiar with most bios'es you should be up and running in a brief moment.

Cons: Pcie x1 is pretty much useless if you have a 2-slot video card, that is if you want to use pcie 3.0 standard. if you don't need the pcie 3.0 standard, the second slot is only pcie 2.0 compatible which is fine. Another thing you have to have the Right CPU combo for Pcie 3.0 to be activated, alittle bit of confusion there. It should just be 3.0 and no questions, but whatever. It's all good Tech.

Other Thoughts: Thanks Asrock. Nice Job!! The Vrm and sensitive chips around the Cpu Pod/area could use some Heatsinks nothing that Diy Sites' don't sell but would be nice if they were preinstalled like the asus boards. I would gladly pay another 20$ for a board like this with heatsinks installed.

3 out of 5 eggsFeature Suite - may be good, Doc & Support - Weak

Pros: Feature Suite rich (in specs), had all requirements I want for new tech HTPC

Cons: Doc is horrid. Included manual, basically useless, says go to Support CD for Users Guide. Info missing there, says go to website. Missing info, says open a ticket... (You see where this is going?) I open a ticket, it says.... ASK NEWEGG! Are you kidding me?

Other Thoughts: Problem stems from a) ancient bios shipped (over year old, 4 releases since... why not ship with current?), doesn't support current CPU and b) No apparent way to access AHCI drivers for current tech Hard Drive. What? Let's hope they answer via support ticket... I will update review ASAP

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize that you having difficulty with mainboard.
For the user manual, please visit the link at " http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/FM2A88M%20Extreme4+/?cat=Manual " .
The AHCI driver has already built-in with Windows 7/8/8.1 and does not required to install.
If using Windows XP, please set the SATA mode to IDE at BIOS, Advanced, Storage Configuration, SATA mode [IDE].

2 out of 5 eggsWatch out

Pros: Specs are great reviews decent

Cons: I've used asrock boards for many years and this is the first I've had an issue with. Can't get board to post whatsoever...no beeps, fans spin tried new ram, psu, case.....is it incompatible with a8-5600k?......I can't flash bios without older fm2, website only list piledriver and steamroller as supported CPUs , which is false because other reviewers have trinity cores installed.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
A8-5600K should work with mainbaord out of the box.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
Clear the CMOS.
Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan.
Test with single memory module.
Test with onboard VGA.
Plug the 24 + 8 or 4 pins ATX power.
Plug the chassis power switch to mainboard, and try again.
If you have any technical support inquiry, please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.
