5 out of 5 eggsopenSUSE Works Fine

Pros: A reviewer gave one star because openSUSE wouldn't install. Using this mobo, I am composing this on openSUSE 13.1 in UEFI mode and secure boot enabled (KDE.) I also installed it seamlessly with UEFI disabled. It is stable, reboots, sleeps, and behaves perfectly. So once again it is a reviewer that is mistaken. People are too so quick to blame the motherboard.

Cons: See my other review.

Other Thoughts: Sorry for making so many reviews. By the way, I have not tried openSUSE for a while. It really is spiffy.
My system: OCZ Vector 256GB, A6-6400K APU, 8GB Patriot 1600 CAS9 memory

5 out of 5 eggsForgot to mention

Pros: Great fan control in BIOS Custom settings. Covers 4-pin System fan and APU fan. I was able to set AMD APU fan to very quiet. Able to set Artic 120mm case fan to any desired speed. Very nice!

Cons: See main review

5 out of 5 eggsSolid AS-Rock

Pros: Installed components, set to Optimal UEFI defaults (Exit Tab.) Enabled Secure Boot + Security Keys (Security Tab.) Disabled CSM (Boot Tab.) Installed Windows 8.1 Pro. When all drivers and software loaded, enabled TPM (ordered direct from ASRock $10) and encrypted drive. Set gpedit.msc to enable PIN. All went perfectly smooth. Enabled Ultra-Fast Boot. ASRock makes good boards. Very happy with quality.

Cons: Wish they would put a BIOS Clear button on all their boards. Don't like tiny jumpers.

Other Thoughts: It is a full size Micro-ATX board.

4 out of 5 eggsGood mobo for cost

Pros: Small size
Plenty of ports
Works fine with Ubuntu 14.04

Cons: Have to buy all the cables for headers on the mobo, nothing included
DIMM slots are very close to CPU, couldn't fit larger sized cooling block with taller DIMMs
Only one ethernet port

Other Thoughts: Bought this motherboard to rebuild a Linux server in my basement. Paired it up with AMD A10-7850K CPU and HyperX Beast 32GB KHX24C11T3K4/32X also purchased from Newegg. Tried to use a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (purchased elsewhere).

CPU and RAM fit in and work fine, but because the DIMMs are so tall and close to the CPU the Cooler wouldn't fit in, had to go with the stock cooler that came with the CPU. Will look for another solution soon.

Although the RAM is rated at 2400 system would not post at that speed, boots fine at 2133.

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64 bit server loads up just fine (just be aware ethernet is named p19p1 by default and not eth0). Very snappy little system. Running KVM VMs, a lamp stack and some web applications with a 25tb ZFS array. I have yet to max out the CPU.

Did a bios update just to have the latest. No issues with upgrading.

Only had the mobo a few days but happy with my purchase. Would recommend it to others, makes an inexpensive but effective home server/NAS system.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Running with a10 6800k, 8 gb DDR3 2400 @2400, has been doing great so far. This system is acting as my steambox right now and it handles any games I throw at it! Although the most graphically intensive games that I play on it are unreal engine games, I haven't touched any settings (whatever is default seems to run/look great).

Cons: None that I can tell

1 out of 5 eggsHeaded for my junk box

Pros: Nice features for a small board

Cons: Board came with older BIOS and had to be flashed to boot any system at all. With new BIOS and UEFI turned off, it is unable to boot Fedora or OpenSuSE linux. It boots Mint, but has unstable operation. I have most on-board features turned off and no overclocking. I am able to install Mint, and sometimes it boots the installed system. I suspect problems with graphics drivers. I could spend another hundred and try operation with a new video board - but why should I have spent my money on an APU processor and board to begin with.

Other Thoughts: If you plan to run Linux, get the AM3+ board with a 6 or 8 core processor. I cannot recommend Asrock for any motherboard.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Unfortunately, mainboard does not provide Linux base OS drivers which depends on its developer.
Please test with Windows 7/8/8.1 to check if the symptom still occurs.
If you have any technical issues please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.

Thank you

3 out of 5 eggsLooks like a great board...

Pros: Fantastic feature set and options! Looks pretty and includes a decent software selection.

Cons: Shipped with old BIOS and won't boot my AMD A10-7700K APU. I can't flash the BIOS to test without an older CPU.

Other Thoughts: ASRock tech support has been decent. They won't answer the BIOS question directly but have indicated that they will RMA the board. Hopefully all will work out.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Due to CPU A10-7700K has released after mainboard, update BIOS is needed to work properly.
Please update replacement mainboard is working fine.
If you have any technical questions or warranty issues in the future please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.

Thank you

4 out of 5 eggsAmazing Board

Pros: This board is amazing in the fact it comes with alot of on board features. UEFI has many and easy OC features, which comes at a price much lower then most high end OC boards.

Cons: North bridge has no heat sinks, but in a well ventilated case it should be fine. I haven't had any over heating issues running the system for 24 hour stress test.

3 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect

Pros: Layout of the board is perfect for small atx format.

Cons: No vrm heat sink (Really)

Other Thoughts: This board is called an extreme board but yet has no vrm heat sink for the board and a smaller power phase for the cpu then the full size atx board. While motherboard vendors bend over backwards to give you all the features for intel cpus in micro atx format they always cut amd users short. Very disappointing to say the very least in this type of treatment. Biased market.
