A great foundation for you to build a FM2+/FM2 APU-based system, the ASRock FM2A88M Extreme4+ Motherboard delivers performance, features, and quality at a great price. It's based on an AMD A88X (Bolton D4) chipset and supports an FM2+ 95W/FM2 100W processor. This motherboard is built to be stable and durable with an all solid capacitor design. Count on the high-density glass-fabric PCB that protects against short circuits caused by humidity. Turbocharge the performance with one key with X-Boost technology. Experience blistering data transfer with the native SATA III and USB 3.0 technology. The acclaimed ASRock XFast RAM, XFast LAN, and XFast USB are also included, for a fast, smooth experience in both local operation and on the Internet.

  • newegg XFast 555 Technology Exclusive ASRock XFast 555 technology — including XFast RAM, XFast LAN, and XFast USB technology — optimizes your user experience with fast response and low latency. To boost performance, XFast RAM creates a virtual disk from the system memory. For Photoshop, It can perform five times faster than before. ASRock XFast LAN is a smart productivity tool that helps you manage your Internet application priorities, simplify your digital life, and accomplish more. XFast USB technology boosts up the USB transfer to a new level, enabling more data to be transferred in less time.
  • newegg High-Density Glass-Fabric PCB What you’ve never understood about your computer is that it is scared to death of water: H2O, humidity, or whatever you’d like to call it. And even though you do not see the water, there may actually be lots of excessive moisture in the air killing your motherboard silently and slowly. No, your motherboard doesn’t melt when in contact with water like the Wicked Witch of the West, but it dies from short circuiting. Luckily, ASRock has a new High-Density Glass-Fabric PCB design that reduces the gaps between the PCB layers to protect the motherboard against electrical shorts caused by humidity.
  • newegg All Solid Capacitor Design ASRock is determined to use high-quality materials to build the best motherboards, that's why all the capacitors on this motherboard are built with 100% solid capacitors. These solid capacitors bring long-lasting durability and ultra-stable performance.
  • newegg X-Boost Brilliantly designed for smart overclocking, ASRock X-Boost Technology is able to unleash the hidden power of your CPUs. Simply press “X” when turning on the PC, X-Boost will automatically overclock the relative components to get a performance boost of up to 15.77%! With the smart X-Boost, overclocking the CPU becomes a nearly one-button process.
  • newegg Easy Driver Installer For users who don’t have an optical disk drive to install the drivers from our support CD, Easy Driver Installer is a handy tool in the UEFI. It installs the LAN driver to your system via a USB storage device, then downloads and installs the other required drivers automatically through the Internet – absolutley no CD or optical disk drive required!
  • newegg ASRock APP Shop The ASRock APP Shop is designed for your convenience. It provides various apps and support software for users to download. You can easily optimize your system, and keep your motherboard up to date, with the ASRock APP Shop.

2 out of 5 eggsProblem Persists

Pros: Same as previous Review

Cons: Installing AsRocks All in one utility had been installed prior to ASrocks response to my review to install it from their website.

Other Thoughts: Now have power to front ports but not recognized and no data! Had previously installed the software indicated from AsRock ! website. Then installed from included DVD and viola! Rear usb 3.0 ports worked and power to front panel ports but no data to front. Case is a Thermaltake Commander G42 Black ATX Mid Tower Gaming Computer Case (CA-1B5-00M1WN-00) .

3 out of 5 eggsJust 1 darn'd problem

Pros: Lots of Features:
FM2+ socket with USB3 and SATA III.
- Lots of SATA ports.
- UEFI BIOS. Updated BIOS to latest online!
- XMP selectable from BIOS. Extensive tweaking options in
- 2x 4-pin fan headers and 1x 3-pin fan header, all controllable via BIOS.
- Optical Audio Out.
- 4x memory slots.

Cons: USB 2.0 ports all work. Annoyingly the 3.0 usb ports don't. On the board or on the front panel.

Other Thoughts: No 2.0 ports on the front panel of my case so definitely something I don't want to live with.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please test these USB 3.0 ports under UEFI/BIOS to verify hardware part is working.
If they are working in the BIOS, please download and install the AMD all in 1 driver at link below.

5 out of 5 eggsNice mobo, not expensive

Pros: Works well, once it is set up, and drivers loaded.
Seems to be stable.
Nice assortment of legacy ports.

Cons: UEFI bios difficult to use with MS wireless mouse, movement is waaaay tooo sensitive.

Other Thoughts: Replaced a flaky FM2A75 board with this one. The physical swap was quick 'n easy. Having to reload all the AMD drivers is a PITA, took twice as long as it should have to get all the peripherals functioning correctly.

Props to ASRock for their handling of the rebate offered. On two purchases, the rebate was received in just a couple of weeks, with email notifications.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat board

Pros: Advanced Bios, lots of options. If you want to change any value, you can probably change it.
Easy to flash the bios.
Great for a cheap but powerful micro Atx build, runs a r9 290x with no bottlenecking.
2 cpu fan plugs.
Can run integrated and dedicated gpu at the same time.

Cons: PCI placement could be better. PCI 1.0 is really the only usable slot with a 2 slot gpu. Would have preferred the PCI 2.0 1x being on the top (end of the board, top because my case is inverted)
Usb 3.0 front panel plug could be on top with the rest of the usb 2.0 plugs, my hard drive barely lets me fit the plug.

Other Thoughts: Runs great with an A10-7850k apu. Had it for 2 years now and haven't had a single problem. Easy to change my fan speeds for summer/winter. Never crashed or failed to boot. Will definitely buy another asrock

Comparing this to a gigabyte fm2 a88x board. It as 3 times the bios options.

2 out of 5 eggsNo Video Output

Pros: At least it boots and runs......

Cons: Video output is dead right out of the box.

This mobo was for a build for my dad, and is the second board for this build, the first was another brand which was DOA.

The first mobo brand for this build was my "go to" brand, but it was my second board from them I had problems with and that brand is now no longer a brand I will use.... fool me twice.....

So I bit the bullet and shelled out the money for another new mobo, and went with ASRock, which was quickly rising up to being my new "goto" brand after a few solid builds I did with their boards.

Well, I rebuild my dad's computer with this ASRock mobo, boot it up..... no video, but no warning beeps. Here we go again....

So I troubleshoot. The monitor I am using to set this build up is MY computer's monitor and it's attached cable, so they both work for a fact.

So, next step, I dig into my computer parts closet, grab an aged but still respectable GPU and plug it in to this mobo and boot.

BAM! Instant video signal. So I shut it back down, take the GPU back out, and try the mobo's video outs; D-sub, DVI, and HDMI on my various WORKING monitors; all ports are sending NO signal.

I put the GPU back in...and video's fine again.

So here I am with a board I have no faith in, and I'll be driving it 3 hours to my dad's place (who is not tech savvy) and hoping this board won't fail in any MORE ways. Of all the computer builds I've done, to have my dad's fail on me in a few months will be a real bummer, which I am already expecting to happen.

I've already pushed off the delivery of this computer due to the last mobo being DOA, so, at least this one works....for now. I don't want to have to send ANOTHER board back and order ANOTHER new motherboard and wait ANOTHER 2 weeks ..lest I pay for expedited shipping, which I won't because i'm not very wealthy and am still waiting for a refund on the LAST board.

I'm already contemplating an upgrade to a board I am confident won't fail.... and it won't be another of this board, that is for sure, probably not even ASRock. I am now brandless when it comes to a mobo company I can trust. So that's interesting, I guess.

Other Thoughts: This has been a really disappointing experience. ASRock was quickly becoming my brand for motherboards.

I was phasing out my old favorite Mobo brand as their quality across several builds was getting sketchy. I was starting to rely on ASRock, but because of this motherboard, I think I'll be looking elsewhere for my reliable brand for any future builds.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.

• Unplug the ATX power, remove all components from mainboard.
• Remove the mainboard from chassis, place it on mainboard’s box.
• Clear the CMOS.
• Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan.
• Test with single memory module.
• Test with onboard video (CPU with APU or test with VGA card).
• Connect the monitor.
• Plug the 24 + 8 or 4 pins ATX power.
• Connect the chassis power switch to mainboard, and try again.

5 out of 5 eggsStable and reliable

Pros: Finally a good working Motherboard as to my last one this one is perfect runs stable, does the job no hiccups whatsoever it was easy to install all system and hardware drivers, everything responds well handles multitasking and excellent video hardware functionality.

Cons: I have none so far and hopefully...

Other Thoughts: One thought regarding the sound hardware I have speakers that have their own power cord and connect to the back sound panel on the motherboard and then sometimes I use headphones that I connect to the audio jack on my external speakers and there I notice a sudden low frequency pitch sound that is not a problem but does pose a slight bit of nuisance it happens every time I execute tasks and operations in my system pretty much anything that runs background processes makes the low frequency pitch but that is all I have to say for now hopefully this investment will be worth it.

2 out of 5 eggsMotherboard DOA

Pros: Nice, cheap motherboard

Cons: BIOS page wouldn't appear. Took it to a repair store, they confirmed my motherboard was defective.

Other Thoughts: Newegg replaced it without hassle

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than I thought

Pros: This little board has everything the average user could want. Good layout, locks to be well made. The second ASRock I've own, will be buying more.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Have been more of a Asus, Gigabyte and a few MSI boards guy, but ASRock will be included now. Real good board.
