A great foundation for you to build a FM2+/FM2 APU-based system, the ASRock FM2A88X Extreme4+ Motherboard delivers performance, features, and quality at a great price. • newegg High-Density Glass-Fabric PCB What you’ve never understood about your computer is that it is scared to death of water: H2O, humidity, or whatever you’d like to call it. And even though you do not see the water, there may actually be lots of excessive moisture in the air killing your motherboard silently and slowly. No, your motherboard doesn’t melt when in contact with water like the Wicked Witch of the West, but it dies from short circuiting. Luckily, ASRock has a new High-Density Glass-Fabric PCB design that reduces the gaps between the PCB layers to protect the motherboard against electrical shorts caused by humidity.
  • newegg All Solid Capacitor Design ASRock is determined to use high-quality materials to build the best motherboards, that's why all the capacitors on this motherboard are built with 100% solid capacitors. These solid capacitors bring long-lasting durability and ultra-stable performance.

The Premium Headset Amplifier is what all headphiles been longing for on a PC. It uses TI NE5532 amplifiers, which can deliver high-definition audio for up to 600ohm professional headphones.
  • newegg X-Boost Brilliantly designed for smart overclocking, ASRock X-Boost Technology is able to unleash the hidden power of your CPUs. Simply press “X” when turning on the PC, X-Boost will automatically overclock the relative components to get a performance boost of up to 15.77%! With the smart X-Boost, overclocking the CPU becomes a nearly one-button process.
  • newegg Easy Driver Installer For users who don’t have an optical disk drive to install the drivers from our support CD, Easy Driver Installer is a handy tool in the UEFI. It installs the LAN driver to your system via a USB storage device, then downloads and installs the other required drivers automatically through the Internet – absolutley no CD or optical disk drive required!

1 out of 5 eggsCould be better

Pros: Fair price, good setup.

Cons: Power regulation is not as good as it could be.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

Thank you for purchase and review.
For the power regulation, its using 4 + 2 Power Phase design.

3 out of 5 eggsArock you can do better

Pros: the on board amplifier complements my headset nicely

the easy access cmos button

all the extra USB ports on the I/O

A-tuning utility

Cons: the DVI port doesn't fit my DVI cable or DVI to VGA adapter

HDMI failed after four months of lite use

Other Thoughts: My HDMI port stopped working after four months of lite use
I am disappointed in this product and Asrock. Considering a year ago i bought a low end motherboard FM2A55M-VG3+ FM2+/ FM2 that worked fine and the only reason why i upgraded to a newer Asrock motherboard is because i wanted to run a crossfire setup and i needed more USB ports. Since i had a good experience using the Asrock motherboard so i decided to purchase a mid-range motherboard and i experience a problem like this all i can say to Asrock is please DO BETTER! Because if you let a little thing like this slip during manufacturing it will ruin your reputation especially when i am a repeat customer. This leads me to question why how can your low end motherboard have no problems and your mid-range mother board has TWO display outputs to fail on me and one output that was poorly manufactured and the other output failed on me during my final exam. PLEASE ASROCK DO BETTER!!!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

Thank you for purchase and review.
Please check if using DVI connection on mainboard is DVI-D connector.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work with all PCI cards

Pros: Easy to install, worked out of the box - for the most part. See below.

Cons: One of the main selling points of this board for me was the pci slots, as I have some legacy hardware. One of those pci cards is a Dell PERC4 controller. This card supports 3.3 + 5V slots, both PCI-X and legacy 32 bit PCI - but it does NOT work on this board. I've tried contacting Asrock support for help, but so far they're unresponsive. For the not-fully-working PCI support and unresponsive tech support, this board earns a total of one egg from me.

Other Thoughts: Could be a nice board, if it actually supported all pci cards.

2 out of 5 eggsQuestionable quality

Pros: A number of nice features, if they would all work correctly.

Cons: BIOS has to be flashed to work with the Athlon X4 860K, so unless you have an older chip lying around, you have to either buy one, flash the BIOS, and then install the newer chip or contact ASRock for a new BIOS and wait for shipping.

ON/OFF play feature doesn't work right on the board I got.

I didn't find ASRock tech support all that helpful. The first board they sent me, no beep from the speaker when posting so tech support told me it was a bad memory module on the board. Sent it in for replacement to Newegg, second board does same thing. Finally figured out that it works, it just doesn't beep on post for some reason even though tech support insists it is supposed to, but they don't know why it's not. Instead I got 5 beeps on the first boot and none after that. So the manufacturer doesn't even know how their own equipment works?

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't recommend this board or any ASRock product based on my experience.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
The ON/OFF play feature works for portable audio devices, like MP3 player or a mobile phone, to listen the music through the computer’s speakers even when the computer is turned off.
Please Enable this function in BIOS, Advanced, South Bridge Configuration.

For the beeps code, mainboard should make error beeps like memory error (3 beeps), VGA error (5 beeps), but would not POST beep (1 beep).

2 out of 5 eggsWorked great, but it died

Pros: Loved how easy it was to navigate the BIOS setup. Large number of USB 3 ports, everything i could posibly need/want in a mobo.

Cons: It was a bit hard to fit into my case, but that wasn't really a big deal.
It no longer works, after less than 2 months. I hit the power button, and the fans all turn on, but the monitor will never get any video feed. No beeping sounds from the motherboard either. I hope to get a replacement, one that works long term so i could give this 5 eggs.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
Clear the CMOS.
Reseat the CPU and fan.
Test with single memory module .
Test with onboard VGA (CPU with iGPU/APU supported or test with VGA card).
Plug the 24 + 8 or 4 pins ATX power.
Plug the chassis power switch to mainboard, and try again.

5 out of 5 eggsMisdiagnosis

Pros: Everything In my old review stands.

Cons: Everything In my old review stands.

Other Thoughts: I am dearly sorry to inform that what happened was a Mis-diagnosis! The other stick of Ram I had tried out turns out it was bad too! It turns out the ram had gone bad after six months instead of the motherboard! I am sincerely sorry to be a little hasty on my decision, and to be fair I rated it again as 4 stars, I do indeed enjoy the bios functionality as it is very convenient and easy to navigate.

2 out of 5 eggsBroken After Six Months, Idk If i can replace!

Pros: Worked Great
Looks Nice
Easy Setup
USB 3.0
Easy Overclock option in BIOS.
BIOS has a password option to protect against intruders.

Cons: It's dead
Sits on a black screen.

Other Thoughts: This motherboard was indeed easy to install and it worked perfectly when I got it and I had everything ready within the first for hours of un-boxing *even windows 7 + drivers* And it worked fine *I recieved this item around Christmas time so please note*
Fast Forward about six monts.
I left somewhere for a week so I turned off my power protector and unplugged it from the wall, to save energy so that it won't waste any. After that week I come home to get on and a few hours later after plugging in my iPhone to restore it (also having issues with that) my computer crashed and it sat on a black screen. That was only the beginning.
A few days later I noticed that this had happened again and it had just rebooted. And then again, and again, and again, even when I'm not around the computer it happens. Another week goes by, and my computer, wont even turn on. Its stuck at a black screen upon boot, the power button doesn't do anything, nor hitting the reset button, I have to manually cut off power to the system. I didn't abuse this thing, and it has been cleaned and sat on my desk for 6 months before this happened. The fact that this has happened in the first 6 months of purchase is ridiculous.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Sorry to hear that the mainboard has malfunctioned after 6 months which’s due to nature of electronic product, it can happen.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
Tunr the power off.
Clear the CMOS.
Test with single memory module.
Test with onboard VGA (CPU with APU or test with VGA card).
Populate the components one by one if its get POST.

1 out of 5 eggsAsRocked

Pros: I purchased this mobo 12/16/13 and I did not assemble the system until the end of Jan 2014. So their went my newegg warranty.

Cons: I got the mobo back yesterday 4/9/14, no warning it was on the way, no explanation of previous problems, is this mobo a refurb or or my old one or maybe new. (nothing) It was returned in a static bag and the outside box said dell computers. I had to read the shipping label to see who it was from. After I received it I got an email over an hour later saying it was shipped.

Other Thoughts: Currently I installed the hard drive my computer and it boots to bios constantly. The mobo did not do this when it was new. So, I called Asrock tech support, 1st they said it was a bad hard drive. I assured him it was not, next he said the bios was updated and everything was checked so I should not be having a problem. I said thank you for your time and hung up. I going to call Newegg and see if they can do something for me, like another brand mobo. This is my last review on this product I'm Done.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Mainboard will directly boot to BIOS, if does not detecting any drive.
Please check the plugged drive has detected by mainboard at BIOS, Advanced, Storage Configuration.
Test on another SATA port.
Test with another SATA cable and HDD/SSD drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Mobo, if you know what your doing

Pros: UEIF is fairly well laid out. Auto restore of default settings on boot failure is nice...reduces the number of times youll have to open your case to find the clear CMOS button.

So far Ive had very stable overclocks. Processor is stable at 4.8Ghz and GPU is stable at 1168mhz on an A10-6800k.

Cons: AHCI mode and base clocking dont play well together. Anything over about 105mhz will cause failures unless you switch to IDE mode...which kills SSD performance (and by kills, i mean a 20-30% loss. Still much faster than spinners).

Other Thoughts: Getting a northbridge cooler and hoping I can push some more power though this thing.

Pros: None yet, I received this current email from AsRock, Wed, March 26, at 5:40 pm, that my motherboard was received.

Please note that it usually takes 5-7 business days (exclude holidays and weekends) to process RMA request. If the RMA process was delayed due to our RMA inventory, we will notice you as soon as possible. Well that's not true. I'm still waiting for a response or motherboard or the next lie!

Cons: Dear valued customer,

We want to inform you that we have received your return motherboard in our facility. After we inspected your motherboard, we had started processing your RMA request.

Please note that it usually takes 5-7 business days (exclude holidays and weekends) to process RMA request. If the RMA process was delayed due to our RMA inventory, we will notice you as soon as possible. You will be notified via email once your status has been updated.

Thank you!

Best regards,

ASRock Customer Service

Other Thoughts: I have emailed Asrock 4 times and asked for a clarification of the above statement and have gotten no response. I don't know what to do? I guess I lost my money and the motherboard.

Manufacturer Response:
