AM1H-ITX What you've never understood about your computer is that it is scared to death of water, H2O, humidity or whatever you'd like to name it. And even though you do not see the water, actually there may be lots of excessive moist in the air killing your motherboard silently and slowly. No, your motherboard doesn't melt when in contact with water like the wicked witch of the west, but it dies of short circuit. Luckily, ASRock has a new High Density Glass Fabric PCB design that reduces the gaps between the PCB layers to protect the motherboard against electrical shorts caused by humidity.
AM1H-ITX
AM1H-ITX AM1H-ITX ASRock is determined to use high quality materials to build the best motherboards, that's why all the capacitors on this motherboard are built with 100% solid capacitors. These solid capacitors bring long lasting durability and ultra stable performance.
AM1H-ITX Two USB 3.0 5Gbps ports plus 2 SATA3 6Gbps ports for supporting all of your peripherals with fast data transfer speed.
AM1H-ITX
AM1H-ITX Even though this convenient mini-PCIe slot cannot be used for cooking scrumptious bacon pancakes, it still proves itself to be very useful for connecting an Wi-Fi card that grants wireless Internet connection.
AM1H-ITX This ASRock motherboard uses a Realtek Gigabit LAN chip to support extremely fast Internet connections.

The unprecedented UEFI provides a more attractive interface and brings a lot more amusement.
AM1H-ITX USB Key

In a world where time is money, why waste precious time everyday typing usernames to log in to Windows? Why should we even bother memorizing those foot long passwords? Nobody has time for that! Just plug in the USB Key and let your computer log in to windows automatically!
AM1H-ITX Easy Driver Installer

For users that don't have an optical disk drive to install the drivers from our support CD, Easy Driver Installer is a handy tool in the UEFI that installs the LAN driver to your system via an USB storage device, then downloads and installs the other required drivers automatically through the Internet. Completely no CD or optical disk drive required!
AM1H-ITX AM1H-ITX Dehumidifier

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Board

Pros: This board has dual power option, as well as 4 SATA 3 ports, so great for an HTPC with an Optical Drive, SSD for the os, and more conventions HDD for storage.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Just as an FYI. I had totally "hosed" the system when the power failed on a BIOS Flash. Machine wouldn't even get to the POST phase. BUT, put BIOS file on a USB2 flash drive, and it recovered! KUDO's to the ASROCK team!

5 out of 5 eggsworks with Hauppauge capture cards

Pros: Does work with Hauppauge capture cards on Windows 7. Under Kill a Watt monitor. (a standard ATX motherboard 270U processor with TDP of 25, running a 1 crucial SSD, heatsink 90mm, ATI 5350 pci-e card, 1 USB connected, and IMON display runs yearly at $165.00 56 watts and 58 volts idle.) (a Athlon 5350 on AM1H-ITX with 1 corsair force 60GB SSD, 50mm heatsink, Hauppauge 1850 single TV turner, 2x1033 ram 1.5volts, BluRay drive connected 19v 90w ac adapter is $73.58 a year, 24 watts average, 27 volts.
$60.44 a year without a 5.25” Bluray drive attached. 18-30% cpu usage when watching a tv show on the Hauppauge and playing Netflix at the same time. 33-34 watts used when recording one show and watching another.) Clearly beats the ATX with a 270U which carried the same TDP of 25.
Bios update 1.4 has overclocking/under clocking options now.
Switched to GELID Solutions CC-Ssilence-AM1
Heatsink wider but shorter for low profile setup.

Cons: none really. After i fixed my mistakes.

Other Thoughts: Bios update 1.4 has overclocking/under clocking options now.
I would never setup a PC without a TV capture card. without it, it would seem pointless and lacking full capabilities. Does add wattage, height of the card can be eliminated by adding a riser and lying it horizontal.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HTPC Mobo

Pros: 19V DC power input
Four SATA connections
Mini-ITX form factor
HDMI or DP output
Digital optical audio output

Cons: The only cons are limitations of the AMD AM1 platform, not this board: single channel memory and no aftermarket APU cooler options (available yet). Neither is a problem, just nice-to-have things.

Other Thoughts: I recently built a Intel i3 NUC, very tiny HTPC for over $700 with a mSATA SSD for the Win 8.1 OS and a 1TB WD AV-25 media drive. The system I built with this motherboard and the 25w AMD Kabini 5350 quad-core APU cost less than half as much as the i3 NUC, performs just as well, and has much more storage. It uses slightly more power (idles @ 25w) and is still a perfect fit on my media shelf in a Silverstone Milo ML06B case. Using the DC input on this mobo with an external laptop AC adapter left a big space where the PSU would have been. In that space I mounted an SSD for the Win7 Media Center OS and two 2TB WD AV-GP media drives for recorded TV and movies. This little box runs very cool and quiet with one just 120mm exhaust case fan mounted above the APU. It is connected via the GigE LAN port to four WMC extenders in the house, using HDHomerun Prime cablecard tuners (the only equipment I rent from my cable provider).

I am very pleased with this mini-ITX AM1 motherboard and the combination of features it has which seem to be optimized for a HTPC build.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome and Reliable

Pros: This motherboard just got it all. It has been very reliable and shows no signs of issues. The reason for deciding on this board have been for me the many great features like USB3, the Full length PCI-e x16 slot (although only operating on x4), the standard 240pin DDR3 slots as memory is cheaper than for the 204pin, Sata 6gb/s, and the most awesome part for me is the DC on board connector. I am able to run my entire system with an Compaq 19V/60W brick which I "borrowed" from an old Laptop which I no longer use. I build a little HTPC with it and it runs and streams my BeyondTV shows without any Hick-up's.

I am using a AMD Athlon 5150 Kabini and I gave the GUI of Windows 7 a bit snappier feel by updating to the latest Bios which allows for a bit of over clocking. The rest of my components are 2 sticks of Team Group 1333MHz DDR3 memory (TED34096M1333C9) and a Seagate 2TB laptop drive.

I am very pleased with my purchase.

1 out of 5 eggsFailures with two RAM chips installed

Pros: The only ITX AM1 motherboard with 4 SATA ports and DC power input.

Cons: This is a show stopper. With two known good new RAM chips installed (2x8gb Crucial Ballistix Sport BLS8G3D1609DS1S00), the system will lock within seconds when you enter the BIOS. It will also cause failure booting into certain OSes such as Ubuntu or FreeNAS. If you remove one RAM chip, either one, either slot, the problems go away. Oddly enough, VMWare and MemTest86 appear fine with both RAM chips installed. These same parts (RAM, CPU, power supply, etc) work perfectly in a MSI AM1 motherboard with zero issues.

Other 1 egg reviews express similar issues with random locks and OS install failures. One reviewer stated they had 2x8gb G.Skill and expressed similar failures. I would like to see if these reviewers experience similar BIOS locks, or removed one RAM stick to see if the problem went away.

I have been in contact with ASRock tech support for a while, and their support is extremely lacking. Responses are slow, and their English is extremely broken and hard to understand. I gave them the RAM model and they never questioned it. I tried all their troubleshooting tips with no success (change RAM voltage, timings, speed), and they suggested I replace the motherboard for a replacement which I did. The new one had the exact same problems. These problems are present with BIOS 1.0 and 1.2. As of writing this 1.2 is the latest BIOS, but they clearly need an update to fix this issue.

Other Thoughts: I'm unable to test if the problem is with two 8gb RAM chips installed, or two RAM chips in general. If you have this motherboard with only 1 RAM chip installed, the problem is likely masked for you and will show itself when you upgrade your memory down the line. ASRock support is poor, so I recommending avoiding this board and brand.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsPlenty of Options in a small package

Pros: DC-in was the reason I purchased this board for my HTPC, and it didn't disappoint. Plenty of options with this board.

Cons: Length and position of connectors for SATA power cable was a pita with my nMEDIA case. HDMI Audio didn't work after installing drivers

Other Thoughts: Went to the AMD website to install the latest drivers, and it installed the HDMI Audio driver I needed. Not sure why the install disc doesn't have the driver, but just get the latest from online.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Tiny. cheap. Everything I needed. Has DC-in jack. Used for pfsense firewall and was super easy to configure / rock solid stable. Even with legacy booting enabled it boots right into pfsense super fast. The included tiny cpu fan with these cheap AMD cpus is actually totally silent in use (it's 3-pin too).
PCIe slot being used for dual gig Intel NIC.
BIOS is very quick (nice that it has UEFI).

Cons: None? I just wish it gave you more suggestions on AC-DC power adapters. First one I bought though was cheap and rock solid though.

Other Thoughts: Bought a "ASUS 19V 3.42A 65W AC Adapter for Asus" from Amzn and it's been working flawlessly to power this thing. Only gets warm to the touch, draws 19-21w during idle and load. Made by Delta. ASIN: B004VS72W6 Item model number: PA-1650-66 feels very solid and well made. Cheaper than $20!

That total power usage, these are the following components: Sempron 2650, single stick of 1.35v ram, this motherboard, stock cpu fan, 120mm fan from case, Intel dual gig nic, and a cheap second-hand Samsung SLC SSD (probably uses about a watt or so). I disabled the built-in ethernet and audio.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible Board

Pros: This has just about every feature one could want. It has a very nice layout and when paired with the right CPU and RAM and if you want even an SSD from AMD you have a really fast and light weight machine.

Cons: No cons.

Other Thoughts: Like I said in the CPU review, you can go nuts and pair this with either a GT 740 4GB or a GTX 750 2GB, you can have a pretty competent gaming machine.
