AM1H-ITX What you've never understood about your computer is that it is scared to death of water, H2O, humidity or whatever you'd like to name it. And even though you do not see the water, actually there may be lots of excessive moist in the air killing your motherboard silently and slowly. No, your motherboard doesn't melt when in contact with water like the wicked witch of the west, but it dies of short circuit. Luckily, ASRock has a new High Density Glass Fabric PCB design that reduces the gaps between the PCB layers to protect the motherboard against electrical shorts caused by humidity.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little board

Pros: - Allows external power supply (picked up a universal laptop charger)
- Multiple video outputs (extension of AMD APU)
- 4 SATA3 ports
- USB 3.0 ports
- Mini-PCIe
- Up to 32GB memory
- Attractive (if that matters)
- CHEAP!
- Nice graphical UEFI interface

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: Buy it! Pairs nicely with an Athlon 5350 for under $100 and takes a laptop charger in the $10-20 range.

2 out of 5 eggswas ok for about 13 months

Pros: worked well when it worked, did what i need it to do which was mostly a fancy file server

Cons: Driver support was a pain in the backside.
Windows 2008 server had no drivers for usb 3.0 drivers (had to hack some together myself)
After about 13 months it stopped being responding on the network... I took me a few weeks to get some time to get to it and see what it's problem was...
I open the case and had to hold my nose.
Looks like the component marked "3r3 351 cjk" burned up pretty bad. i'm glad there wasn't any source of fuel around because it got hot enough to desolder it's self from the board. So it burnt it's self up...
To bad that it's just outside of it's warranty period.

Other Thoughts: there doesn't seem to be a lot of choice when it comes to ITX AM1 boards... but I might look to MSI it's cheaper and hopefully won't burn it's self up.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Cory,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Unfortunately, the board does not support drivers for Server OS, but Windows XP/7/8/10.
The supported drivers can be download at link below.

4 out of 5 eggsGood but not great!

Pros: Cheap.. Excellent HTPC, I have 2 of them with the Minibox case..

Cons: The USB ports are finicky.. especially installing Windows 7. put your wired keyboard and mouse on the left side of the back panel.. the 3.0 ports aren't good until installing AMD update.
You have to use a SSD mounted under a bracket.. and the power jacks don't fit well,,

Other Thoughts: I would recommend it... but, the 19v DC jack? make sure you have the right jack.. Give yourself some time to figure the power stuff out..

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome - Just Awesome

Pros: Just amazing. No issues anywhere. The bios is incredibly easy.

Cons: make sure to check CL speeds on Ram, it auto'd mine up to CL11 from CL9 stock speed

Other Thoughts: GREAT DEAL at full retail. If it goes on sale I'm buying a pile of them.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Motherboard

Pros: Excellent board. Great fit, finish. No problems during install physically or adding parts. Bios is fantastic. Flashing bios to newest version could not have been easier. Ethernet connection and go. Fantastic.

* has a mini slot for a laptop wireless card. Wish I would have noticed before buying a usb dongle.

Cons: None that I can think of. The faceplate tabs were a little off during fitment but a quick slight push during seating and all was good. However, the faceplate hole for the onboard psu is slightly off but no biggie.

Other Thoughts: Excellent board. Would recommend at retail $. Will be jumping on as many as i can find if they go on sale to $30-40 range.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent board but is flawed

Pros: This board has a lot of features for something so small. Lots of different video outputs to choose from, a pcie slot for a graphics card if you so choose, lots of sata connectors and a slot for a M.2 wireless adapter. Paired this board with 8gb ram and a AM1 5350 and couldn't be happier with its performance, this board is even capable of overclocking this little quad core for a little more performance ;)

Cons: The bummer about this board is the supposed USB 3.0. I've been trying for HOURS to get the USB 3.0 ports on the back of the board to stay working (got them working but definitely not getting USB 3.0 speeds) and the USB 3.0 case connector in the middle of the motherboard I can't seem to get ANY life out of what so ever.

Other Thoughts: If ASRock can get the USB 3.0 working correctly this board would be absolutely amazing IMO. But as mine sits right now my USB 3.0 ports are only good for my wireless mouse/keyboard receiver.

1 out of 5 eggsIt is defective.

Pros: Many features

Cons: I bought this 5 months ago. I tried to make a new pc out of this today.
But it is defective.Board does not boot or screen does not display at all. CPU fan does not spin on cpu fan pin set, but it works on case fan pin set.
Based on other reviews, i think asrock tried to skip quality control to save money. But I got frustrated over many hours for this defective board.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
• Unplug the ATX power, remove all components from mainboard.
• Clear the CMOS.

5 out of 5 eggsVersatile

Pros: DC in. Using an old laptop brick is a huge plus in building a cheap HTPC.
No noise, and very low power consumption. There is a power connector on the motherboard to power 2 sata drives. Somr itx cases come with a converter board to do this, but no need when you have this board! If you want to use all four, I would assume you need to put a power supply in.

AMD 5350 plays every video I've thrown at it no problem.

Cons: only two drives are powered through the board.

Other Thoughts: This is a sweet little board. 2x8GB sticks of RAM, 4x4TB drives and using FreeNAS turns it into a nice file server.

I built one for my dad, as an internet box and put it in a supermicro ITX case http://www.supermicro.com/products/chassis/Mini-ITX/
With the stock cooler, a minor case mod was needed to close it up

I've had three different uses for this board, and it excelled in all scenarios. ..Flawlessly

5 out of 5 eggsGood for basic computing

Pros: If you're looking for a performance review, move on to the next review. This review is about an ITX build and other hard to find info I wish I had.

The stock HSF that came with my APU is too tall to fit in my ITX case, it blocked HDD and slim disk drive. Instead get the Gelid HSF (sold by NewEgg, link at bottom). Also you will need a sata to slim sata adapter (if using notebook type cd/dvd drive).

Motherboard has 3 fan headers, all three capable of controlling 3 wire fan speed, by CPU temp. Two of these can also controll a 4 wire fan. The difference is with 3 wire speed circuit is on motherboard and generic for fans, with 4 wire speed circuit is on fan and specific for that fan.

Mini Pcie socket can take any wifi or other notebook half size micro PCIe. An SSD will fit, but mSata has different wiring so a mSata SSD will not work. No problems connecting SSDs to any of the four Sata ports, I just wanted to save space in my tiny ITX case.

If you connect a displayport monitor you may need a VGA or DVI or HDMI display to get into BIOS to change from HDMI to DP. Dual monitor is possible, with one monitor analog (VGA/DVI) and other digital (HDMI/DP). I currently have one monitor at 1900x1200 and another at 1360x768. Both monitors are a max resolution. Useful for office work, document on one and internet on other. I am using Linux Mint 17.2 64 bit. Performance is fine as long as you don't try to run the latest games.

Your OS should plug into an A port (next to case power switch), then drive control is by a motherboard chip, one less thing for APU to manage. But use other SATA port if your OS does not have the ASmedia driver. Sata_A1 and Sata_A2 are controlled by a motherboard chip, Sata_1 and Sata_2 are controlled by APU.

Other headers: 1x RS232, 2x USB 2 (2 ports each 4 USB), 1x USB 3.0 (2 ports), case audio, internal speaker, TPMS.

Cons: None I can think of. Maybe add an M2 socket for SSD?

Other Thoughts: Antenna to use with wifi:

5 out of 5 eggsNo problems for a Novice.

Pros: Posted right away.
Lots of Sata connections to work with.
Options on power (supply or DC in).

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Built two HTPCs with this and the AMD 5350. Great results from a budget build both times.
