5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Solid motherboard
Price
Excellent UEFI
Great layout

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I'm not aware of any matx boards that have enough space between high end video cards for good sli or crossfire cooling on air
less expensive alternative to ROG

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Board is well designed and well laid out. UEFI is plenty good. It absolutely looks great, and the periphery is well laid out for easy management and use

Cons: Two big complaints:
1) the first two PCI-e slots are the only ones that will run SLI/crossfire. This means your first card will most likely be smothered for cooling. The 3rd PCI-e slot ends up being mostly cosmetic on this board
2) I found the number of SATA ports to be lacking. 6 ports is kind of low for more ambitious storage setups.

Other Thoughts: I bought the board for cosmetic reasons, and it absolutely fills that part. Also performace is absolutely as expected, am generally happy with the layout.

My main gripe is still the SLI/crossfire slot restrictions, and would not recommend this board if you are looking to run a compact SLI/crossfire setup. In a single-card rig, this board is absolutely perfect.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazingly Reliable Board

Pros: Rock Solid Stable

I have had nothing but bad luck from other major Brands
Solid OC quite respectable for a m atx board.
Components are top end and you could waste money on a 400 dollar or more board but they will be using the exact same stuff.

Protective Coating great because I am a smoker and have a cat.

Has all the features I need and more,

Easy to navigate BIOS this was my first ASROCK board and I had no problems applying a nice performance OC. Not one issue at all so far.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I am not a big fan of the gold but that is a preference so I won't take off any egg.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Bang for Buck

Pros: Small, very underpriced for what you get, high overclocking cabability, easy to use UEFI BIOS, excellent build quality, and aesthetically pleasing.

Cons: No online guides to overclocking, cheapo SLI ribbon, BIOS has a bit of a learning curve for overclocking.

Other Thoughts: I thought I was going to get another bunk ASRock motherboard. The first one I bought was a 970 Extreme 3 which would throttle my FX-8350, so I swapped for a Sabertooth 990FX. After selling and going with Intel, I needed to readjust myself to using ASRock's UEFI BIOS. It took a few hours to figure everything out. UPDATE YOUR BIOS TO GET NICK SHIH PROFILES. Overclocking is a breeze now after updating and learning the BIOS. I haven't had a single issue with this motherboard, even after OnTrac tossed the package over my 10 foot complex gate.

3 out of 5 eggsUpdate: Nice when it works, but no diagnostics when it doesn't

Pros: Clean. Lots of room around anything I need to plug in. I like the 3 + 4 pin cpu fan header for my water cooler. The board is solid when it works, memtested for well over a week at 1 to 72 hours per run, warm or cold start. Windows7 64 installed easily, running well.

Cons: Apparently no diagnostics. Or if there are any, they aren't working on my board. In my previous review on Oct 19 I wrote that it failed to POST. At that time, no beep codes, no video, nothing to indicate what the problem was or even that there was a problem. Well, except that it didn't work.

Eventually I took a chance and got some different RAM, worked right away.

Other Thoughts: For me, diagnostics are table stakes. DR Debug is nice. Beep codes are fine. Nothing? I've increased the rating from 1 to 3 because the board works and works well, but lack of useable diagnostics is pretty unfortunate.

BTW, ASRock Support came back to me within about 24 hours of my online request. Admittedly their first response was a generic sheet of debug instructions, not taking into account the problem I raised. But many of the suggestions weren't bad.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Glad to hear that another RAM resolved the issue.
For the future reference, please visit link below for supported RAM.
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97M%20OC%20Formula/?cat=Memory

The beeps code can be test (required chassis speaker).
Without memory - 3 beeps, pause, 3 beeps.
VGA issue - 5 beeps.
POST beep is disabled by default setting. However, it can be enable at BIOS, Boot, Boot Beep [Enable].

1 out of 5 eggsSeems DOA

Pros: Very clean layout, well packaged. Good space for attaching coolers. Logical header placement. Nice lack of colour. :)

Cons: Seems DOA, no beeps, no video, no place to display codes. Just for no output at all, that's a 1 star for me. If this one is truly DOA, that's 1 star too.

CPU is supported, 550W PSU, tried a couple each of video, cooler and RAM configurations. Admittedly, none of my RAM is in the supported list, but since when have any of us ever built with completely supported RAM? That's what timings are for. Anyway, no dice, the cpu fan just cycles on and off with no other indication of what the issue is.

Other Thoughts: Came with P1.40 BIOS.

i5-4690K
2 or 4 sticks Corsair 4GB CMX 1600 9-9-9-24

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
Remove the mainboard from chassis, place it on mainboard’s box.
Clear the CMOS.
Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan.
Test with single memory module.
Test with onboard VGA.
Plug both 24 + 8 pins ATX power.
Turn on the power (using onboard power button) to check if its post.
If you have any technical support inquiry, please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Board

Pros: Great color scheme and extremely easy over clocking setup. This board is very approachable from new over clockers to experienced ones. Got my 4790k to 5.0ghz with no problems at all!

Cons: A couple of the fan headers and the audio plug in are in a weird location making it a little more difficult to have a completely clean and hidden wire build. Also why do motherboard manufacturers never point the front USB 3.0 headers in the outward direction so its easier to plug that connector? Not enough to dock an egg though.

Other Thoughts: Solid board for a solid price. This is my first time trying ASRock and I must say it has been a very good experience so far!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat micro atx motherboard

Pros: future upgradeability, z97 chipset with 8 phase power delivery, support for crossfire and sli configurations, many fan headers, killer lan, uefi is much easier to use than the one on my 990fx extreme 3, the motherboard layout and colors are pleasing, cheap

Cons: there isn't realy any this is a really cheap feature rich motherboard money can buy at this time

Other Thoughts: building my first intel nvidia computer and didn't want to spend to much money on it and ended up getting this board for a much more compact build than a full tower i have with my amd computer.
build:
Asrock z97m oc formula
zotac geforce gtx770 amped edition in sli
raidmax rx1000ae 1000 watt psu
team elite vulcan ddr3 2133 4gbx4
pny optima 240gb ssd
wb caviar green 2tb
corsair h80i
cooler master n200
windows 8.1 64bit

1 out of 5 eggsDumbfounded

Pros: board looks nice.

Cons: So i have had this board for a month and i have already replaced the board and gotten brand new memory, only to find out that the bios wasnt updated to support devils canyon.
I bought this board in August and i get the original bios chip that doesnt support devils canyon, are you kidding me.

Other Thoughts: Why does a board purchased in august have the same bios from when z97 launched in may, there were TWO bios updates which both supported devils canyon, and both were released well before i purchased this board. Not okay

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Mainboard supports Haswell-R (devil's canyon) out of the box and it's would POST with first released BIOS.
