5 out of 5 eggsGood Mobo

Pros: Works great.

Cons: IDE and Sata connection layout is bad for clean wiring.

Other Thoughts: To the guy who can't get sata drives to work. You're supposed to set the BIOS to enable SATA, then install the drivers when installing OS. Read the manual.

2 out of 5 eggsunsatisfactory

Pros: This motherboard started up, and perhaps would have worked, had the BIOS recognized my SATA hard disks.

Cons: The BIOS failed to recognize any SATA hard disks.

5 out of 5 eggsGood, Stable, Hassle Free in my situations

Pros: Two raid controllers, pci express, gigabit ethernet

Cons: Slight detail needed for the promise raid controller bios. The promise controller must be set to raid mode in the bios for the drivers to install correctly in windows, odd, but the only minor adjustment ive ever needed. If you're not using the promise raid you can always disable it.

Other Thoughts: This board is great. As others have said, if you want a board that has few stupid little compatability\stability issues, and is hassle free as they get, this board is great. I can only go by my own experiences. Ive used both the via and the promise raid controllers, and both are amazing. Used via in the past and loved it, but the promise is even better. Ive never used the pci express for high end video, so i cant speak for that, it may have issues. Ive used this board for just workstations, or servers. Requires very little messing with, which is the best part. As a side note, what ive done to be able to boot off the promise raid without having to load f6 drivers, is install windows to a single drive on the via controller, then move that drive, and its soon-to-be mirror over to the promise, raid 1 them, it copies the data over for you, and you're done. Booting off the promise array like a charm just as quick and smooth running as the fresh format it came from.

1 out of 5 eggsMaybe I got a bad one..

Pros: n/a

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: The board I got has a bad PCI-x16 bus. When I first installed the board my whole machine was laggy, unstable and had artifacts all over the screen. I put in an old PCI video card and everything worked fine. I assumed my Geforce 6600 had gone bad, so I bought a new card (a good excuse to upgrade to an X1800XT :) But when I got that, the same problem occured as my Geforce had.
Anyway, I am returning the board.

4 out of 5 eggs

Comments: I've had this board for seven months - so far it's been totally stable. I didn't have one problem setting it up! Two things to mention though, otherwise I would have given it a 5: A few weeks ago something went bad and now when front panel audio connector is hooked up, the left channel does not function (on either the front or back). Also, when I tried to update the BIOS it messes up the BIOS configuration and I had to reflash it back to the old rev1 (not really necessary to update it though).

Other than that, for the money it's a great deal!

5 out of 5 eggsOUTSTANDING

Comments: This is one fantastic motherboard. It is one of the few that worked perfectly wothout havein to spend hours troubleshooting and tweaking in BIOS. It also looks AMAZING in my XION II gamers case.

4 out of 5 eggsNot Fast, Not Easy, Not Bad

Comments: Looking for the fastest board? Look elsewhere. Looking for the easiest board to flash your bios? Not here. Want the latest greatest chipset? Continue your search.
Do you want a solid board without any compatiblity problems? Then this is it. Solid performance, nice looking, enough ports and slots, all the cables you need and a neat little LED display for MB diagnosis. The manuel is one of the best I have ever seen. Plus 8 channel on-board sound.
But you have to boot into DOS to flash the BIOS (that's like so 1999) and the overclocking software from Soltek is not yet compatible with this board even thought it comes with it!

5 out of 5 eggs

Comments: I'm a system builder and use this mobo exclusively in all my builds. I'm very impressed with the build quality. I've never had a problem with these boards. They include so many extras which keeps you from having to spend extre money (4x SATA cables for example is a nice touch). Overall you will not be dissapointed. Lots of features, very fast, VERY reliable, easy to work on, great manual, who could ask for more!

3 out of 5 eggsnic issues plus

Comments: For the most part the motherboard appears well constructed and thought over.
However, I have had huge problems with the embedded network card. It doesn't recognize when cables are plugged in, and fails despite efforts to get negotiations to work. I ended up putting a pci network card in.

4 out of 5 eggsI only had one little problem with it...

Comments: There is only one CD audio connector on the board for the built in sound system. I have two optical drives, and could not hook them up to the board, so I ended up having to disable the onboard sound, and drop in a sound card. And get this... In the end I bought and returned 3, yes THREE sound cards, because they each had only one CD audio input !!!!! And they were all Creatives !!!! I finally threw down the gauntlet, and took the Soundblaster Live 5.1 Value out of my old machine and put it in this one. And get this... it works better on this mother board than it ever did on my old one (and using Microsoft XP supplied drivers too!!). I'm getting sound options now that I've never seen !!!! So, I cant say that I'm completely disappointed in the single audio connector. It's acutally caused me to take action and get better sound !!!
