What is that noise?
This review is from: SUPERMICRO MBD-H8SCM-F Micro ATX Server Motherboard Socket C32 AMD SR5650 DDR3 1333
Pros: It's a rather nice low-end server board with IPMI. I had 16 GB of RAM, a SAS card, an expander, an Opteron 4334 and in a Norco 4224.
Cons: There were two of these boards. They both had the same problem. Thank you Newegg for the quick RMAs for the defective boards! This SEEMS to be an issue with the capacitors on the board. (I swapped out everything) Once I swapped out this board and went back to the old board, everything was fine (Same components across the board - Is that a pun?). I sent the first one back figuring it was a one off. I got the second one and it was fine for a couple of days. The noise (similar to old disk drive squeal) came back in tiny bursts and then went consistent when ANYTHING was being done on the machine. If the machine was totally idle, nothing. Heavy load, consistent non-stop screech.
Other Thoughts: This board was purchased due to NewEgg not having the board I wanted from SuperMicro, H8DCL-6F-O, at the time. I needed something to see what SuperMicro was like, I had never purchased from them, with a list of features of IPMI, OOB console, etc. Well, burned twice on this MB and now NewEgg has the one I want in stock. Guess what I just bought? I'm praying this issue is only on the others. Otherwise, it's different vendor time.
