5 out of 5 eggsTurbulent Beginnings...then, Smooth Sailing

Pros: Cheap; Reliable; Good Expansion Options; Small Form-factor

Cons: BIOS periphery is a bit buggy, back-panel I/O dated

Other Thoughts: I updated the BIOS first thing, but found that often it would halt when trying to enter the monitoring section of the BIOS. Being a budget/mainstream board, it really isn't a big deal as all BIOS setting menus are stable. Considering a monster of a machine is not being built based on this, BIOS interaction is a quick in/out config. After installation of the OS (Vista x64, ITC*) I experienced no installation or BSoD errors. It's a solid performer.

What necessitates the addition of parallel & serial ports in the I/O? No one has used them in over 5 years...moar USB naow!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap, reliable.

Cons: 1 PCI-E slot, and only 2 slots for ram... So you cant crossfire or SLI.

Other Thoughts: I bought 2gb of ram 1x2. So I have to through that away or put it in another computer if I want to upgrade my ram, which is kinda a waste of money.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Basic Board

Pros: This is a good simple board with very up-to-date features. It is easy to work with and easy to install. Kudos to Foxconn and newegg

Cons: I have to take an egg off of the rating for Foxconn because the board would not boot an XP Service Pack 3 CD. It just kept rebooting at the "detecting hardware" text screen. Updated the BIOS from P4 to P11, with no luck. The slipstreamed CD works in several other machines and when I booted the Service Pack 2 CD, the machine built fine.

Other Thoughts: The price/performance/features of this board make this highly recommended for a small office web browser and word processor. (Which is exactly what I built this for.)

4 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: Good features, 45nm support, quad support, stable board...

Cons: It just fails at overclocking. I know I shouldn't get on its back, it was a 47 dollar board. But I could only get an e2180 to 2.3ghz and then the board goes unstable and I have to reset CMOS for some reason. Now the sound doesn't work. It's no big deal, though. If I can't get the sound to work again I'll just order a new sound card.

Other Thoughts: Get a decent cpu if you plan to game with this. I may have had bad luck.

5 out of 5 eggssolid hardware

Pros: Works fine. Free shipping. Low cost. With .125V bump, gave 25% overclock using E2180 @10x250 and literally screams running Supreme Commander (using a PCIe 7300gt silent card, no overclock on the card yet). G31 chipset is really solid IMO.

Cons: Onboard video isn't good enough for HDTV or games. Only one IDE connector.

Other Thoughts: Not a lot of bios tweaking options, but enough to squeeze some serious performance gain. This board with a tweaked E2180 feels as fast as a Q6600 system from a wdell-known vendor (which has onboard video from Ixxxl). I know this is apples to oranges, since a good GPU is everything, just saying that user experience is very smooth.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Ignore the bad rating this board had, I'd give it a 6 if I could. I've paid a lot more for less. The bios has quite a few cool features for a budget board, as well as some overclocking options. It has 4 sata, pci-express 1x and 16x, plus gigabyte LAN. It has all kinds off feature all over the board (most of which I didn't even look at) as well as a HUGE fold out diagram that explains every single one in detail!

Cons: Some people might need more that one IDE connector. (I used all sata drives so i could have done without the one)

Other Thoughts: In the many year of building computers this it the first Foxconn motherboard I've purchased and I'm impressed. I usually buy all Asus but I consider Foxconn from now on. Don't expect a high end board for a budget price, I purchase this for a mid range PC for a customer and am very satisfied.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes it work?

Pros: It works (from my experience). It is inexpensive. DDR2 800 ram (a great thing on a board of this price). And right now, FREE SHIPPING.

Cons: This board isn't as nice as a couple of others that I've built entry level systems with. The bottom line, though, is that it works. I don't know how quality they are because when I looked at Newegg, the people who bought this board seem to know nothing about anything.

Other Thoughts: One of the three reviewers complained that the board didn't run DDR2 1066 mhz ram; the board is listed as being compatible with DDR2 6400 (800 mhz) ram. The comment that DDR2 1066 ram wont work on this DDR2 800 board just makes the reviewer seem completely stupid to anyone who has half an inkling of computer knowledge. The biggest "con" to this board is that it is hard to know the overall average Newegg consumer's experience with it. The reviewers here on Newegg were decidedly BELOW average consumers. I am almost afraid to buy this board from Newegg purely because I get the feeling that bad products are the ones that attract dumb consumers. But that little bit of superstition and name calling makes me sound less credible, so don't listen to me either.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Motherboard

Pros: Easy to install. Good board in general. Functions very well.

Cons: IDE cables that are included are a bit on the short end. Labelling diagram could be better.

Other Thoughts: Other than that, not a bad board for the price.

3 out of 5 eggsDoes a basic job

Pros: It has a low price for a Core 2 Duo Motherboard with integrated graphics and gets the job done if you don't have higher performance expectations.

Cons: Fails to recognise 1066 MHz memory (states 667). Doubtful if this board will ever support 45 nm CPUs despite web site's outdated message that it will in first quarter of 08 after Intel certification (it's MAY). This is the most troublesome board I have ever used for early failure to recognise mice and keyboards on USB. This happened when initially trying to get into bios and later when installing Windows XP SR2 when I couldn't input anything. I kept having to unplug and replug keyboard and mice multiple times and the USB to legacy keyboard adaptor didn't work either. Built in graphics - a low price video card will up the Intel Graphics performance by a factor of about 4.

Other Thoughts: Once one gets over the USB recognition problem (mouse and keyboard even die in Windows setup) the board works well enough if you don't want high performance memory. Even after setting all the dram and voltage settings manually and setting the memory at 800 mz (highest listed) the board still showed 667 mhz. I had to use the overclock facility to set it at 800 mhz, where I decided to leave it. I guess you can spend less than two hundred bucks for a 3.0 gig CPU, $35-$40 for 667 or 800 mhz memory (don't get anything better) plus $30 for an NVidia 8400GS card and you will have built a cheap system which it is OK for everything but high speed gaming.
