Foxconn's A78AX-S ATX motherboard delivers powerful, affordable performance. Based on AMD's 770 and SB700 chipsets, it is ideal for the home or business user who relies on top video performance. Certified for Windows Vista, it supports AMD's AM2+ and AM2 Phenom multi-core processors as well as all other socket AM2 CPUs including Athlon 64 X2 and Sempron chips. Up to 4GB of DDR2 memory can be installed with dual channel support to power through complex operations and 2600 MHz Hyper Transport technology massively increases the CPU bandwidth at lower power levels for cooler operation.
The PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot supports double wide graphic cards and the two PCIe and three PCI slots offer extra options. And, because beautiful graphics are meaningless without sound, the onboard Realtek ALC888SDD chipset delivers 8 channels of theater-quality audio. Connect up to four SATA devices for high-speed data transfer rates along with the option of RAID configuration. Integrated Gigabit Ethernet LAN lets you connect to other systems on your network at broadband speeds.

Great Budget Gamer
- Pros: Board posted and is running fine. Foxconn live update is a great program as far as I am concerned. Easiest bios update I have done to date, no more booting to floppy or flash drive. I will admit I was leary at first about performing a bios update inside the windows environment (low level function being done through multiple software layers... oh well, sometimes you gotta just say what the #$%^).
Just for reference set the board up with stable settings and leave it alone. It is a mainstream board in my opinion built to run stable and consistently. Not built for continuous tinkering. Set it and leave it LOL.
- Cons: No cons other than not a great overclocker, (who really needs to overclock a 6000+ anyway) What do you expect for price.? Also thanks for adding the rebate one day after I purchased the board LOL!
Another con is that newegg is not a petroleum company, maybe our fuel prices would be better.
- Other Thoughts: I noticed a posting saying that this board will only work with 89 watt processors. Someone needs to talk to my board and also the techs at Foxconn... because mine booted on first go around running a 125 watt 6000+ (ADX6000CZ) and I shoved the 6400+ out of my other machine in it just to verify... it booted and runs as well. Don't post if you don't do your homework people, it scares people off of good products.
- Pros: Worked right out of the box. PCI- E 2.0, DDR1066 and support for Phenom processors. 6 SATA II ports.
Cheap price.
- Cons: Only supports processors rated at a maximum of 95 Watts. The documentation doesn't tell you this little fact.
The highest clocked Athlon X2 this board supports is the 6000+. Make sure the model number is ADA6000CZBOX because it is the 89 watt variant instead of the more common 125 watt one. Foxconn doesn't list this processor on it's cpu support site for some reason but it'll work in this board.
DDR1066 will only work with Phenom based cpu's so if you buy DDR1066 and go with a Athlon X2 the memory will clock down to DDR800.
- Other Thoughts: Long as you don't make the mistake of buying a processor rated over 95 watts you'll be fine.
I wanted a board that would give me all the latest features (PCI -E 2.0, DDR1066) without breaking the bank and without a lot of extra features that I'd never use (SLI) This Foxconn board fit the bill perfectly.

It's ok, but if I were doing it again, I'd go with something different
- Pros: -Low power consumption
-Comes with some cables -"Cheap" -Like the startup image -AM2+ so you can use AM2 or AM3 processers
- Cons: -Maximum 4gb memory supported
-Front panel connector are a PAIN to plug in. -Foxxconn website always down or "please try again", not good at all for downloading updates from
- Other Thoughts: In my quest to make a cheap but efficient gaming computer I chose this motherboard. While I knew it was only limited to 4gb, I thought that would be enough for me. I was wrong. And I'm really quite annoyed. So when I build another computer I will skip this. I don't have a ton to say though, I don't really know or use most of the settings and such, it is just good out of the box. The Foxconn website is ALWAYS down though - I refresh it like over and over and over and over just to download simple updates. I know they are not overloaded with traffic but they are a pain to use.
Had to RMA it
- Pros: None. Dead board that had to be sent to foxconn for replacement. This is the second foxconn board to die on me this week. The other was a different model am2 board.
- Cons: This is the second foxconn board to die on me this week. The other was a different model am2 board that had run for 3 weeks until a chip on the board started on fire and smoke came out of my tower.
- Other Thoughts: This DOA board and my other smoky board leave much to be desired. I will stick to cheap and reliable manufacturers that don't send me dead boards.
When I returned the smoky motherboard, they send me another dead one - I am up to 3 returned boards.
Ugh, one more review
- Pros: Sorry for the third review. My last review indicated I had received 2 bad boards in a row. There was only one bad mobo. There was a problem with the reset switch wires on the case which caused the PC to not post. I am not exaggerating when I say that I have built at least 15 computers with this motherboard. I have only had one that was defective. The rest have been perfectly stable. It loves the 45W Athlon x2 processors + Windows XP. The end-users love the computers and their speed. I have always been able to overclock them to get a little more out of them (For example, 210 or 215 fsb vs. the stock 200.
- Cons: I would say the biggest negative is that there are only 2 memory slots.
- Other Thoughts: This has been a great board for me. I built an HTPC for myself with this mobo. With a BE-2300 processor at 2.4 Ghz + an MSI 4670 video card = 7,500 3DMark06. It games, stays cool, and plays video and blu-ray beautifully.
