Foxconn's A78AX-S ATX motherboard delivers powerful, affordable performance. Based on AMD's 770 and SB700 chipsets, it is ideal for the home or business user who relies on top video performance. Certified for Windows Vista, it supports AMD's AM2+ and AM2 Phenom multi-core processors as well as all other socket AM2 CPUs including Athlon 64 X2 and Sempron chips. Up to 4GB of DDR2 memory can be installed with dual channel support to power through complex operations and 2600 MHz Hyper Transport technology massively increases the CPU bandwidth at lower power levels for cooler operation.
The PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot supports double wide graphic cards and the two PCIe and three PCI slots offer extra options. And, because beautiful graphics are meaningless without sound, the onboard Realtek ALC888SDD chipset delivers 8 channels of theater-quality audio. Connect up to four SATA devices for high-speed data transfer rates along with the option of RAID configuration. Integrated Gigabit Ethernet LAN lets you connect to other systems on your network at broadband speeds.

Great Budget Gamer
- Pros: Board posted and is running fine. Foxconn live update is a great program as far as I am concerned. Easiest bios update I have done to date, no more booting to floppy or flash drive. I will admit I was leary at first about performing a bios update inside the windows environment (low level function being done through multiple software layers... oh well, sometimes you gotta just say what the #$%^).
Just for reference set the board up with stable settings and leave it alone. It is a mainstream board in my opinion built to run stable and consistently. Not built for continuous tinkering. Set it and leave it LOL.
- Cons: No cons other than not a great overclocker, (who really needs to overclock a 6000+ anyway) What do you expect for price.? Also thanks for adding the rebate one day after I purchased the board LOL!
Another con is that newegg is not a petroleum company, maybe our fuel prices would be better.
- Other Thoughts: I noticed a posting saying that this board will only work with 89 watt processors. Someone needs to talk to my board and also the techs at Foxconn... because mine booted on first go around running a 125 watt 6000+ (ADX6000CZ) and I shoved the 6400+ out of my other machine in it just to verify... it booted and runs as well. Don't post if you don't do your homework people, it scares people off of good products.
Good Board for my needs
- Pros: Great price, stable and fast. This is a really nice board overall. Good placement of components. Picked up my Kuma 7750 right away. Fired up first try and working really well. Seems to have plenty of OC options so I don't know what others are talking about as far a it not being a good overclocker but I personally am sticking with stablitiy over a <10% speeed increase. Besided the real difference for gaming comes from my ATI 4830 as far as I am concerned. This motherboard, 4 gigs of G.Skill ram, and my 4830 card cut through Unreal 3 like a samurai though unrulely peasents with maxed out everything.
- Cons: Still haven't gotten onboard sound working but I use a Sound Blaster card so I got tired of messing with it and just disabled onboard. It's funny but the drivers keep telling my they fail to install. This is sad because this is a really great board overall.
- Other Thoughts: Foxconn is a major OEM supplier. I know for a fact the Dell uses foxconn motherboards with a Dell logo stamped on them. They also have a custom power supply pin out last I checked so don't replace your Dell mobo with a retail Foxconn board without researching first. Still, you can tell this board is very OEM based by the software and bios that come with it. I'm sure all works perfectly if you know the little ins and outs of setting it up. I am very experienced with PCs and have to say my only grip with this board so far is the onboard sound drivers which I'm not using but see as a hassle for anyone looking to use integrated sound. Others say they have gotten it working but I stopped messing with it after 5 minutes and haven't looked back. If you have a dedicated sound card and want a rock solid quality board this is a great choice.

Stable as all get out
- Pros: Stable, stable, stable is all I can say. This has been one of the most stable systems I have ever seen. I build one for myself and one for a friend an both are working flawlessly. CPU is a 7750 Kuma, video card is a Asus 4830, 4 GB G.Skills DDR 2 provide plenty of power and performance. Unreal 3, Silent Hunter 4, Left 4 Dead, DOD Source, GT-R Evolution all runs flat out on max. Battlefield 2 in particular absolutely flies. I pretty much run everything at 1650 x 1080 maxed out with no stutter and frame rates are on average between 45 and 60 ftp while never dropping bellow 25 ever. Without V sync I usually get in the 80's. And this is without tweaking XP 32 bit or optimizing my BIOS. I have to tweak a little more and see what this thing can really do. I'm not overclocking either but you can I would just make sure spread spectrum is off. Read the manual cause the BIOS has a lot of settings. Oh and SATA 5, and 6 are you primary when SATA primary is selected, not SATA 1.
- Cons: BIOS can be a little tricky so be sure to RTM but you really should always. No solid caps =( but hey, just keep it kool and it shouldn't be a problem, besides I know how to change them. =) Never go the on board sound to work but I only messed with it for like 2 minutes and don't use it anyways, I'm sure it works though I just don't care enough to fool with it. There really isn't any other negatives to this board, it has been great to me in just about every way. Don't overclock cause I don't need to, this is fast enough for what I do with it which is a ton of gaming among other things though I have may favorite games and that's pretty much all I play. Pop in a super High end video card and you'll have a monster. Don't know how it performs with Windows 7 but XP Home works a treat.
- Other Thoughts: I was just so stoked to start using the machine I forget to optimize my BIOS which I still haven't done yet. My main SATA drive has been running as the Third controller master all this time and the machine still rocks. Like I said I have to dial it in a little and tweak my XP but things can only get better from here.
So-so
- Pros: Works fine. Plenty of PCI slots. Premium audio (when it worked). Newest SB700 chipset (compared to other budget motherboards).
- Cons: Sound connector started to go, had to get a replacement audio card. Sucks because I can't get a replacement for motherboard, since newegg has only 30 day warranty.
Supports ONLY 95W processors! Can't go 125 etc - i.e. budget motherboard. Only 1 IDE connector, have to use additional controller. Couple of times had hard time restarting/booting, just froze solid. So-so, because of faulty sound connector would think twice about buying foxconn again.
- Other Thoughts: Otherwise its fine.
Ok board
- Pros: Cheap. Has everything a mid level PC needs.
- Cons: I had a lot of trouble fitting this into the case I bought. More accurately, I couldn't fit the TV tuner in easily. This meant I had to get a new case which was a hassle, but probably worth it. The old case was of poor quality. After getting everything in, I found that Windows could not use the Tuner I had installed because of a reported hardware conflict. I did everything I could to try to get that to work in the configuration I wanted to no avail. Originally, I had the tuner behind the graphics card so it could get decent airflow. Now the tuner has to be in front of the graphics, effectively cutting off almost all air flow. This means that the computer has serious graphics problems when put under heavy graphically intensive loads.
- Other Thoughts: I think the problem was that there was an IRQ conflict between the graphics card and the TV Tuner. All of this is not really a problem for the person I built the computer for. She doesn't do anything that really even requires a graphics card, but she wanted to be able to if need be.
