Foxconn's A74MX-K is a micro-ATX motherboard based on the AMD 740G chipset. This affordable board supports AMD's AM2+ and AM2 processors including the Phenom FX, Phenom, Athlon and Sempron CPU's with a 1000Mhz front side bus. It is Windows Vista certified and can fit up to 4GB of DDR2 memory into the two 240-pin slots for best performance with dual channel support and 1Ghz HyperTransport technology accelerates communication between the CPU and the other components.
The ATI Radeon 2100 onboard video chipset delivers excellent performance and the PCI-Express x16 port adds extra capabilities along with the two PCI and single PCI-E x1 slots. Accompany the video with 6 channels of sound generated by the Realtek ALC662 audio chipset. Control up to four SATA-2 devices and a dozen USB 2.0 connections means never having to disconnect a peripheral to attach a new one.
Connect at broadband speeds with the Gigabit Ethernet LAN and hook up to a flatscreen monitor with the DVI output making the A74MX-K ideal for use in an on-the-go gaming box.

Good but deceptive
- Pros: Solid, worked right out of the box with an AMD 4050e. I built this for an upgrade on micro-budget for an Xubuntu box. No HW conflicts in Xubuntu, and works in XP.
- Cons: The only twist is this registers as a HD Radeon 2100, and the chipset is seen by CPU-Z and AMD's program as a 690 chipset. All updates are in, and BIOS is current -- this is a 690 not a 740.
- Other Thoughts: I personally do not care as the two chipsets are nearly identical in cost, but if you specifically want the new HD 3100 for the h.264 advantages, you'd be wise to check another board.
Build on a budget
- Pros: I purchased this motherboard for a tight budget build considering its chipset and graphics for Windows Vista. Usually, I use Biostar for low-end builds but the NVIDIA GeForce 6100-6150 tend to lag with Vista 3D Desktop. This motherboard's BIOS is well layout. Overclockers will find it interesting given the low price.
- Cons: I won't request the $10 rebate because I'm not sure if they will honor a replace in case of a failure since the barcode has to be sent to Foxconn. (Just as a side note - Foxconn is a terrible company when it comes to customer support)
Paired with Kingston 1GB RAM PC6400 and an Excelstor 160GB IDE HDD
- Other Thoughts: I was able to push the Athlon 64 3200+ Orleans 2.0GHz($29 on NewEgg) to 2.8GHz on stock cooling 41ºC max temp during 3 hours stress test. Better rated memory would have given me room enough to take it up to 3GHz probably. I ended up not stressing the hardware since it was for sale... HT 4X, CPU= 240 x Multi = 10, Memory set at 667MHz... Give it a try! Overall good motherboard for the price

a+
- Pros: Used this board for a replacement on a friends pc. Installed it very quickly and it's been running great for about 6 months now. Great price too.
- Cons: none
Works with Freenas
- Pros: Everything I hoped for this board worked with freenas.
The ethernet onboard was detected with freenas which is a gigabit. Was not doa.
- Cons: Not really much of a con but my own fault, it doesn't support raid 5.
- Other Thoughts: This is a good cheap board if you are looking for something to works a low power usage server team it up with a lima 1640le.
Great board, great performance!
- Pros: Price, 740G, Bios settings, Micro (very small, but with great features, 4 SATA ports, supports RAID, BIOS's update allows to use AM3 cpu's
- Cons: None really. Except it only dose up to 95w on the CPU. So, if you update you bios to support the AM3 cpu's, only the lower end ones will work with this board.. Not a big deal though.
Only 2 ram slots
- Other Thoughts: I just re-bought this board after on my old one, one of the RAM slots died on me. (had the other one for over a year. So not a big dea) This is my rig:
AMD Athlon x2 4600+ 2.4ghz @ 2.58 Foxconn 740G micro 2gb DDR2 667 500gb SATA HDD 80gb IDE HDD CD/DVD drive HD 2600xt 256mb GDDR3 (awesome card!) HEC Mid-tower case Windows XP 32bit
So yeah, that's my system. It's fast, works and CHEAP! This motherboard is amazing! If you in the market for a budget motherboard, this is a good pick.
(BTW, my rig plays games like COD4, UT3, HL2 and WOW all on high settings at over 30fps!!)
