Upgraded & smaller.
- Pros: Excellent performance in a small package. Haven't had any failures or any problems in a year. Coupled with a core 2 do and 2gb sli ram its a fast little sucker. Micro-atx is the only thing I will be buying from now on. Will be upgrading the video card soon & possibly going to a quad core in the future, lots of room for upgrades.
- Cons: Bios sometimes won't load or post after hitting Del durring boot. Usually works the 2nd time around.
- Other Thoughts: After my old server tower pooped out I decided to build myself a new desktop, size was my #1 concern as I was sick of carrying around huge computers.
beware
- Pros: EVGA has great RMA and customer support.
- Cons: 1st board died in a month with a corrupted BIOS, would not POST. 2nd board same thing after about a month. 3rd board arrived corrupted. 3 bad boards all with corrupted BIOS? There is a serious quality control problem at EVGA.
- Other Thoughts: There is extensive threads at the EVGA forums about this. EVGA seems to be aware of the problem but I guess its easier to RMA the boards that fix the problem. This problem does not appear to affect their ATX boards from the threads I've read.
Exellent EVGA 7150/630i
- Pros: I have been running this board for over 9 months now. Overclocked E2180 to 3.0GHz (300 X 10 multiplier). Very stable and rock solid. I also own a 680i board. In terms of OC, this board is almost as flexible as the 680i. I initially left the voltages for CPU, FSB and chipset on auto. I had occasional lockups when I was running at 2.8GHz. I increased the CPU voltage to 1. 35v and upped the voltages for FSB and chipset slightly. Voltage adjustments fixed the problem and I can easily increase the FSB frequency to 1200MHz, giving me 3.0GHz for the CPU. That's 50% OC on a very reasonable CPU and MB.
When I plugged in a discrete video card, I also experienced video corruption (Does that sound familiar?). Flashing the BOIS from 1.4 to 1.6 and installing the latest video driver fixed that problem.
- Cons: None if you are building a HTPC. For a poor man's gaming rig build, the following 2 items may be considered cons. However, I am not sure how big is the performance penalty:
1. Single channel for the memory 2. The PCI Express x 16 slot is not 2.0
- Other Thoughts: Coupled with a cheap dual core CPU and a GeForce 9500 GT video card (which is also very reasonably priced), this board will give you a very capable gaming rig which can play all the latest game comfortably. When you have problems, you have to do research and analyze the issues. Technical support people are there to issue you a RMA number, which is also nice. Don't RMA your board too easily. If you don't work out your problems, the next board you get back may have exactly the same issues.
