2 out of 5 eggsnot so great

Pros: looks nice, no ugly LED's littering the board

Cons: no front side usb3 pinouts

board arrived DOA with bad bios chip, it took a week for it to arrive via snail mail, you'd figure with the amount of money we are paying for a product that is known to still have bugs, they could next day air it, or maybe just pack an extra bios chip with the new boards they produce...

took a week for me to be able to use it, and now on inital start up, it says no hard drives are detected on my post screen, then loads normally... not something I want to look at on a brand new computer, but I dont feel like dealing with tech support again, and then having to RMA and risk possibly getting another bad bios chipped board...

Other Thoughts: I love EVGA, I stood behind them on most of their products for YEARS, but I'm pretty disappointed with this one, I'm having second thoughts about buying evga gpus now...

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I am sorry to hear you initially had issues with the board. The no hard drives detected message is because you have nothing plugged into the Marvell E-Sata controller. If you disable E-sata in the BIOS the message will go away and the board will boot slightly faster. If you have any other issues please contact us 24/7 (888)-881-3842

2 out of 5 eggsFailed to initialize HDD

Pros: EVGA X79 SLI is a nicely built board having a great feature set. This board and an Intel i7 3820 are replacing an EVGA 790i ForTheWin and Intel Q96650 that lived a long and active life!

Cons: Apparently suffering from a immature BIOS -- which can't be resolved by user as the board fails to recognize a HDD is connected and is unable to load from a thumbdrive. It looks like this topic has gotten quite a bit of play in the EVGA community forums -- that I can tell, it appears most are being resolved by EVGA sending a new bios chip flashed to a more recent BIOS version.

Other Thoughts: First time I've experienced this - based upon the tone in the forums, it looks like EVGA is working to improve the BIOS and helping out its customers.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We do have BIOS chips we can send you to fix this issue. Please call us (888)-881-3842 and we can have one sent.

2 out of 5 eggsLooks promising but...

Pros: Has lots of features sata3 USB 3 supports six cores! Evga has good customer service and are friendly

Cons: No hard drives work u need to contact evga so they can send u a bios replacement chip so this can be so you have to wait. Plus they don't have it in stock!!! So I've been without a computer for about 1.5 weeks!

Other Thoughts: I feel like just getting a refund and going for an asus mobo! I've done a bit of research and about 99% of customers have had issues with this board same issue. I feel that evga should give me a partial refund for their faulty board,,(spilt the difference with me)

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I do apologize your board needed a BIOS chip. If you still do not have a board please contact me directly, Matth@evga.com so I can work with you on this.

5 out of 5 eggsTop Notch Board

Pros: Top notch board with EVGA Customer Support - The Best In The Industry. Not interested in the marketing nonsense, useless features of Asus & Asrock.

Currently running 4.75 GHZ rock solid - i7 3820.

The board looks sweet too - Flat Black PCB. A stunner.

Cons: Non

Other Thoughts: All the manufacturers are having issues with X79 - that means get the one with the best customer support - EVGA.

4 out of 5 eggsShipped 3/8/12 with bad BIOS

Pros: This is a great motherboard from a great company. It has numerous features not found on others, including additional tools for modification. EVGA has an excellent reputation, and I've owned several.

Cons: Could not get the Windows 7 install started. Just a blinking cursor. I guess the BIOS has some issue that prevents it from booting to my devices:

http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?&m=1448298&mpage=1

This forum thread references a bad BIOS. I've just started the support emails. Everything seems ready to go until I get this boot issue resolved - really, EVGA, it doesn't boot to my Windows 7 CD as shipped?

Other Thoughts: Buyer beware - don't expect some of these to work til they ship with the updated bios.

5 out of 5 eggsStill fine

Pros: So far so good, I have had this board since it first came out, and just recently purchased one for the wife and her new setup. Everything is working fine for us. I currently have had no problems since updating bio's etc.

Cons: One bad thing i noticed is you can have alot of troubles with OC this board and some issues with ram. Luckily I am faithful to G Skill ram and have had no issues with there ram. The one flaw I don't like about this board is my 570 sli setup puts the cards way to close together.

Other Thoughts: I think if evga were to push the pci slot a little further away and possibly add a few other features to this that the f t w model has this would be the best board out there once the last few bugs are worked out.

1 out of 5 eggsHuge Disappointment

Pros: I looks nice!

Cons: First off I'd like to say I've loved EVGA ever since the X58 series that they put out never really had a problem just worked like a dream. Then I decided that I'd try their X79 series BIG MISTAKE!!!!!I have about 7 of these boards and none of them will post when you A. Up the turbo multiplier say from 32 to 35 very slight overclock. B Set the XMP and it will set the WRONG voltage in the bios 1.5V memory is set to 1.6V then you can manually set the voltage BUT ONLY in XMP Mode. With Automatic Mode set on the memory it will read the CAS settings wrong 11-11-11-28 even tho the memory is 9-9-9-24 I've tried 3 different types of memory render similar issues. The one time I did get one to come up into windows I had a slight overclock on it put it too sleep S3 State the board loses its turbo multiplier but reboot and you get a 6A DIAG Code. I've tried all of the bios versions 25 Beta 28 and 29 same thing. I don't know how they are getting their overclocks on this board but if they are

Other Thoughts: getting their overclocks on this board but if they are getting them they must never reboot. I would recommend that Newegg not sell these board as far as I’m concerned these boards are a defective product!!!!!! Oh and I did talk to tech support and they are completely worthless when it comes to supporting this board I’ll be talking to my REP over a EVGA soon but this is truly a huge disappointment.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I do apologize you are unable to overclock the board. You can follow our quick guide to overclocking the board, but we cannot directly support you in getting it stable: http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1323403

We recommend you set your memory timings, voltage, and speed manually rather than use the XMP profile. We also released a new BIOS update today that may assist you with some issues you have had with the board: http://www.evga.com/support/download/

2 out of 5 eggssomewhat of a frog prince...

Pros: board layout is decent, seems to boot fine

Cons: I know RAID users are not the majority, however, I have been unable to install Windows 7 64 bit using 2 120 GB OCZ SSD drives... both work fine, identical firmware, and taken separately, Windows will install fine. I called EVGA yesterday and was told "I will get back to you within 2 hours with an answer, we will setup a similar configuration to test this" and it is the next day no response from EVGA... I don't like to bash on this company, have had great experience with their products until this board... Some issues with the BIOS as well, cannot reset CMOS unless you remove the battery even though there are 2 reset switches on the board... Seems unfinished, could be great, I hope I don't have to RMA this...

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me earlier about this issue. The clear CMOS bug was fixed in the latest BIOS that can be found here: http://www.evga.com/support/download/. I do apologize that it took longer to research than I anticipated. I hope the solution I provided for you will solve your issue, if it does not I am always here to work with you until we can get it resolved. You have my contact information if you need any further support.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: I have always enjoyed using EVGA products, I wanted the FTWmodel, but wasn't available when I ordered so went with the SLI. The dual Bio's works great and I can easily OC my processor with this product.

Cons: Not a huge con, but I found I miss my old 1155 z68FTW- from this SLI model was hoping for the X79FTW

Other Thoughts: I noticed alot of ppl had problems with OC this motherboard, I did at first too, best to check out the overclock forums for help or also the EVGA boards, took about 3 hours but I have my processor OC to 4.8 GHZ and is stable enjoying the 6 cores from the new sandy bridge model.
