Engineered for the performance users with excellent overclocking features. Includes a GUI BIOS that is focused on functionality, new software interface for overclocking in the O.S., high quality components, M.2 storage option and more.

It starts with a full 6 Layer PCB, improving overall overclock stability and PCB cooling. The memory trace layout is optimized for compatibility, improved overclocking and 4 DIMM memory support. The Z97 FTW also features a 6 Phase PWM for the cleanest variable power switching and efficient power to your CPU. A slew of great onboard devices including additional 2 Port SATA 6G controller for a total of 8 SATA 6 ports, Intel Gigabit LAN and a USB 3.0 controller for a total of 6 USB 3.0 devices.

The GUI BIOS has been further enhanced, and is brought down to a very lean state while achieving its main goal of keeping it easy to use and follow while not compromising at all on functionality. The way a modern BIOS should be.

  • 6 Layer PCB
  • 4 DIMMs for up to 32GB of DDR3 RAM
  • Memory speeds up to 2666MHz and above
  • SLI + PhysX Support
  • Intel Gigabit NIC

Z97
  • 6 LAYER PCB

High layer count enhances stability both for heavy loads as well as high over-clocks.

Z97
  • HIGH GOLD CONTENT FOR CPU SOCKET

Higher volume of precious metal (Gold) used in the sockets greatly improves the conductivity and produces a cleaner signal due to less resistance/impedance.

Z97

No need to remove a card when testing, instead you can disable the slot with a dip-switch, this can greatly reduce the time spent in troubleshooting , as you do not need to disassemble anything to isolate PCI-E components.

Z97
  • 2 WAY SLI SUPPORT + PHYSX

The Z97 FTW is rated for SLI + PhysX to handle to most demanding video loads.

Z97
  • 6 PHASE PWM

A 6 Phase PWM helps to ensure that the power reaching the processor is clean and stable.

2 out of 5 eggsSATA Port Issues Abound

Pros: Looks great. Aesthetically perfect. Great list of features. Onboard Power/Reset switches and indicator lights are nice touches, as is the rear I/O Shield

Cons: Newegg had these on a bulk discount, so I bought two of these boards. Both had random crashing errors and/or boot errors like "No partition found". This happened with brand new SSD and HDD separately, for multiple Linux distributions and WIndows 7 and 8.1

So far I've RMA'd 3 of these boards. 1 was free, the other 2 I had to pay for shipping. Now I am left with one board that appears to be fully functional (fingers crossed) and another that continues to crash or not boot at random. Tried multiple drives, multiple SATA Ports, and multiple Cables. Same issues across the board.

Other Thoughts: I, like others, bought an EVGA PSU (G2 650w) and GPU (780ti Classified) and was hoping this would match the aesthetic and theme of my build. However, with this many issues and hassle so far, I am considering this particular model of motherboard as a lost cause. I'll keep the GPU and PSU, but it's back to Gigabyte or Asus for motherboards for me, from now on.

5 out of 5 eggsEVGA feels under rated as a mainboard manufacturer

Pros: First off, it booted up the first time without any issues even with a set of memory not specifically approved by EVGA.

Lots of really cool fit and finish features. I love the on board power buttons, the on board CPU temp readout. I like that there is a cover for the I/O components. I like the design of the rear I/O panel which is a nice matte black instead of the typical polished aluminum. Tons of fan power sockets. Two BIOS saves. Power toggleing PCIe slots. Attractive colors. Appears to have plenty of overclocking tools and support.

Cons: None as of yet. I am becomming an EVGA fan

Other Thoughts: I have this board with EVGAs GTX 980 and the EVGA 850 power supply in a cooler master HAF 922 and everything looks like it belongs together. Has run smoothly since first bootup.

UPDATE 3/29/2016 - Over a year into this thing and it still screams without issues. Thumbs up!

5 out of 5 eggsDOES NOT HAVE TWO USB 2.0 OR TWO USB 3.0 HEADERS AS STATED

Pros: VERY FIRST BOARD I'VE EVER OPENED A BIOS IN. CMOS BUTTON WORKED GREAT AS I OVERCLOCKED MY CPU TOO MUCH AND THE COMPUTER POWERED DOWN AND STAYED OFF. HIT THE CMOS AND I WAS BACK UP AND RUNNING.

Cons: ONLY 1 USB 2.0 HEADER
ONLY 1 USB 3.0 HEADER
THE M2 DOES NOT WORK WITH STORAGE DEVICE
I WOULD HAVE DOCKED AN EGG FOR THE MISREPRESENTED INFORMATION ON THE USB HEADERS BUT FROM THE REVIEWS I KINDA KNEW BEFORE HAND AS WELL AS THE M2 DEVICE NOT DESIGNED FOR STORAGE

Other Thoughts: System Specs:
Cooler Master HAF XB EVO case

5 out of 5 eggsWorked for a week now waiting on RMA :(

Pros: I originally wrote a great review based off the first few days. Read cons.

Cons: But that was all to change. Sudden freezing/restarts then freezing and shutdowns. I'm extremely tech savvy. I tried all possible issues. I even purchased a new SSD and HDD to no avail. I still have complete love and respect for evga. I know this is a random and unpredictable bad experience. I put it in a brand new Enthoo Pro case, with brand new ram, HDD, SSD, power supply. Basically all new. It worked for 5-7 days then all hell broke lose. I'm just waiting for my RMA to register. It was received over there today. This I know because ups verified pick up at their Hq in CA. Anyways like I said love them and respect them. I just hope whatever I get back as a replacement is worth the weeks without computer use and the extra $18 spent on ups ground shipping to have it replaces.

3 out of 5 eggsNot what I was looking for...

Pros: Great boot time and compatibility software wise with my whole build.

Overclocked my 4790k to 4.8ghz STABLE (my msi gaming 5 only got it to 4.6)

Bios is incredibly easy to use and other than azalea meaning audio I had no problems with figuring anything out.

Cons: Had to get three replacement boards: The first had a broken 24pin connector, the second wouldn't boot into bios with a 4790k only my two xeons (But the reason I bought this board was to O/C so i couldnt leave a xeon in it) the third time EVGA sent me a board with a broken CPU socket and told me I did it so refused to send me a fourth replacement.

I ended up buying the board again and it worked but EVGA says 2 usb 3 and 2 connectors. Implying each I thought. Ended up leaving my front panel 2.0 unplugged because i needed the usb 2.0 on the mobo for my custom loop fan controller.

The 6 pin supp. power faces down toward the PSU. (Not effecting anyhting in my build because I have a CM Storm Trooper but might get in the way of smaller boxes with SLI/XF

Other Thoughts: The color scheme could have been a little more vibrant of a red in my opinion. This is because I use white LED's to illuminate and I prefer the color to be on the pieces themselves and the red on the mobo looks a little washed out with that type of setup. Little personal preference so it's not a pro or a con unless you are like me and have to have a nice looking rig.

5 out of 5 eggsPhenominal Mobo!!!

Pros: Ok first off thing is an animal. It literally knows no bounds when it comes to power/distribution of said power. Booted immediately. It respected windows. Zero issues whatsoever. Bios is new to me seeing as I was an Msi fanboy but I found my way around and I love and cherish the dual bios. And the Ethernet/wifi is superb. It has quality audio. It's been revised within the last year to perform better than its original make.

Cons: None yet if ever.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat board

Pros: Lots of slots and high-end features of Z97 chipsets. Really easy to use BIOS.

Cons: Onboard audio is ok. M.2 slot is absolutely worthless don't even think about using it for an M.2 SSD. Thought about returning the board but I really needed a board at the time.
EVGA website does not include Intel's Rapid Storage SSD caching software for download, you have to go to Intel to get the current version.

Other Thoughts: Other than M.2 issue, this is solid board. It has a nice feature set for the price (when on sale), especially when comparing to other boards with similar slot config and specs. Can't speak to the overclockability since I have a Xeon proc. Would've given 5 stars but the M.2 slot left a bad taste. I should have done more research.

4 out of 5 eggsMake sure you know what you need

Pros: Easy to set up, no problems getting everything running, and it's running with my i5 4690k, Corsair H100i, and GTX 970 on windows 8.1 no problem.

Cons: The 6 phase PWM on the left of the CPU socket came broke, so I had to send it back in and wait 10 days before I had a new one here. Unfortunately, this was my first PC build and I didn't know what I was needing as far as motherboards go. There is only ONE USB 2.0 port, so I had to leave my Define R5's front USB 2.0 unconnected in order to use my H100i. The two instruction manuals that were included were really basic/minimalistic, and might leave other first-time builders lost.

Other Thoughts: Make sure that you can get by with just one USB 2.0 port. It was a bit of a shock when I was nearing the end of the build after waiting an extra 10 days to find out it didn't even support everything. I really wish the specs list on this website's page didn't falsely advertise 2 USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports when it only has 1 of each. I was debating on whether to give this a 3 or 4 star rating, but everything else seemed to be good enough. Now I just have to try to find a way to make those USB 2.0 ports on the front of my case useful.

2 out of 5 eggsUnderwhelming and poorly laid out

Pros: Fairly cheap and can run 2600 RAM

They finally started putting the LED and on board boot/reboot and BIODS reset buttons in logical places, this is the only positive that has to do with board layout.

Cons: No DVI connector built in so you will likely need to buy an adapter if you aren't going to run dedicated graphics. HDMI is worthless unless you have a monitor with sound and actually use the speakers.

The built in sound is terrible. Cheaper boards have much better sound built in.

There are so many capacitors built in tight against slots that you better be very careful. This is a brittle board, one slip and you destroyed it.

The RAM slots are so close to the CPU that the stock heatsink of my i5 4690 nearly covers the first RAM slot and would actually touch and put some amount of force on the RAM stick. Luckily I only have two sticks which work in slots 2 & 4. Consider this a 3 slot board.

On the opposite side of the CPU the capacitors and ugly CPU VRM heat sink get close to banging up against the stock CPU heatsink.

Do not buy a large aftermarket CPU heatsink it won't fit and will likely damage the board.

Unless you buy a water cooling system forget about overclocking with this board.

Do not buy this board along with case with bottom mounting PSU if you intend to run SLI. The supplemental PCI-E 6 pin connector actually faces down! Who thought that was a good idea? Internal connectors face out from the mobo, why is this so hard to figure out?

The SATA slots face to the right and are inconvenient but unless you are using a very small case this shouldn't be too big of a deal.

Again, Connectors need to face out from the mobo, why is this so hard to figure out?

It is almost amazing that the external connectors face out, that is how poorly thought out this board is.

The manual sucks and is completely worthless, but this is a failing of every mobo I have ever bought.

EVGA engineers must have been drunk when they laid out this board. There really is no other explanation for the poor layout.

EVGA used to mean quality. I bought this board, an EVGA PSU and video card for my latest build and I will never buy EVGA again. All three items were of low quality.

Other Thoughts: Should be renamed Z97 FTL.

Other than the massive number of cons it does run everything fairly well and doesn't seem to get too hot since it has no onboard fans.

It hangs on boot emitting a totally worthless code but it is very rare. B4 memory training, gee that is helpful. My memory is fine, running memtest on them all night on this board and another produced zero errors.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I do apologize for the troubles you may have experienced with your EVGA Z97 FTW motherboard. I can assure you that the layout and the build quality of this motherboard is solid and very well thought out. The motherboard itself is very strong and rigid as it is made out of a 6 layer PCB. We do appreciate your feedback, should you have any further suggestion or concerns with your motherboard, then I would encourage you to contact our 24 hour Technical Support team by phone 1.888.881.3842 and pressing option 1 or by email: Newegg@EVGA.com so that we can assist you.
