Z97
  • 6 LAYER PCB

High layer count enhances stability both for heavy loads as well as high over-clocks.

Z97
  • HIGH GOLD CONTENT FOR CPU SOCKET

Higher volume of precious metal (Gold) used in the sockets greatly improves the conductivity and produces a cleaner signal due to less resistance/impedance.

Z97
  • PCI-E DISABLE SWITCHES

No need to remove a card when testing, instead you can disable the slot with a dip-switch, this can greatly reduce the time spent in troubleshooting , as you do not need to disassemble anything to isolate PCI-E components.

Z97
  • 2 WAY SLI SUPPORT + PHYSX

The Z97 FTW is rated for SLI + PhysX to handle to most demanding video loads.

Z97
  • 6 PHASE PWM

A 6 Phase PWM helps to ensure that the power reaching the processor is clean and stable.

Z97
  • DUAL BIOS SUPPORT

The Z97 FTW comes preloaded with Dual BIOS for very comprehensive protection. Whether you pushed a brink OC until it is not bootable, or you suffered a power outage during a BIOS flash, you can always switch to the other BIOS, boot as usual, then if desired, hot-flash the faulted BIOS.

4 out of 5 eggsMake sure you know what you need

Pros: Easy to set up, no problems getting everything running, and it's running with my i5 4690k, Corsair H100i, and GTX 970 on windows 8.1 no problem.

Cons: The 6 phase PWM on the left of the CPU socket came broke, so I had to send it back in and wait 10 days before I had a new one here. Unfortunately, this was my first PC build and I didn't know what I was needing as far as motherboards go. There is only ONE USB 2.0 port, so I had to leave my Define R5's front USB 2.0 unconnected in order to use my H100i. The two instruction manuals that were included were really basic/minimalistic, and might leave other first-time builders lost.

Other Thoughts: Make sure that you can get by with just one USB 2.0 port. It was a bit of a shock when I was nearing the end of the build after waiting an extra 10 days to find out it didn't even support everything. I really wish the specs list on this website's page didn't falsely advertise 2 USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports when it only has 1 of each. I was debating on whether to give this a 3 or 4 star rating, but everything else seemed to be good enough. Now I just have to try to find a way to make those USB 2.0 ports on the front of my case useful.

2 out of 5 eggsUnderwhelming and poorly laid out

Pros: Fairly cheap and can run 2600 RAM

They finally started putting the LED and on board boot/reboot and BIODS reset buttons in logical places, this is the only positive that has to do with board layout.

Cons: No DVI connector built in so you will likely need to buy an adapter if you aren't going to run dedicated graphics. HDMI is worthless unless you have a monitor with sound and actually use the speakers.

The built in sound is terrible. Cheaper boards have much better sound built in.

There are so many capacitors built in tight against slots that you better be very careful. This is a brittle board, one slip and you destroyed it.

The RAM slots are so close to the CPU that the stock heatsink of my i5 4690 nearly covers the first RAM slot and would actually touch and put some amount of force on the RAM stick. Luckily I only have two sticks which work in slots 2 & 4. Consider this a 3 slot board.

On the opposite side of the CPU the capacitors and ugly CPU VRM heat sink get close to banging up against the stock CPU heatsink.

Do not buy a large aftermarket CPU heatsink it won't fit and will likely damage the board.

Unless you buy a water cooling system forget about overclocking with this board.

Do not buy this board along with case with bottom mounting PSU if you intend to run SLI. The supplemental PCI-E 6 pin connector actually faces down! Who thought that was a good idea? Internal connectors face out from the mobo, why is this so hard to figure out?

The SATA slots face to the right and are inconvenient but unless you are using a very small case this shouldn't be too big of a deal.

Again, Connectors need to face out from the mobo, why is this so hard to figure out?

It is almost amazing that the external connectors face out, that is how poorly thought out this board is.

The manual sucks and is completely worthless, but this is a failing of every mobo I have ever bought.

EVGA engineers must have been drunk when they laid out this board. There really is no other explanation for the poor layout.

EVGA used to mean quality. I bought this board, an EVGA PSU and video card for my latest build and I will never buy EVGA again. All three items were of low quality.

Other Thoughts: Should be renamed Z97 FTL.

Other than the massive number of cons it does run everything fairly well and doesn't seem to get too hot since it has no onboard fans.

It hangs on boot emitting a totally worthless code but it is very rare. B4 memory training, gee that is helpful. My memory is fine, running memtest on them all night on this board and another produced zero errors.

5 out of 5 eggsEVGA Quality

Pros: - A solid board that fit everything i needed.
- Debugging/Temperature display with a decoder
- Runs windows 8.1 without trouble
- BIOS is nicely laid out and informative

Cons: - Supplemental 6 pin power for PCI-E is absolutely blocked because it faces my bottom mounted PSU
- Manuals are Vague (Populating the RAM, any instructions regarding BIOS)

Other Thoughts: -When i bought this in-store the rep checked the pins for the CPU with me which also put my mind at ease considering the reports of a loose heatsink for this board
- There is a small symphony of beeps when i turn this on. Seemingly they mean nothing and you can change this setting in BIOS.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent board for price.

Pros: Solid build. It caught all my parts on first boot. It's easy to overclock your parts in the BIOS. I was able to do what I wanted with it. I like the power and reset buttons on it. Also the temperature indicator for it is a neat feature.

Cons: None so far.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Solid board with solid components. EVGA uses the best PCBs out there and on board components as well. Everything is spaced out MUCH better than previous EVGA boards I've used. All bench marks are performing to spec. Did a mild (mostly pointless) overclock, just to say I did, and it's performing solid.

Cons: round heatsinks suck. In general, the heat sinks on the board are weird.

I've had a few random post failures...couldn't figure out the issue, but no problems overall.

Other Thoughts: quality board.

1 out of 5 eggsBroken motherboard, poor RMA service, and a broken replacement motherboard

Pros: Can't speak to these; haven't had one work properly. First motherboard wouldn't POST when a graphics card was plugged in to it (ensured GPU was seated and plugged into power supply, tried multiple displays, every possible display port, removed other PCI things, etc...)
Second motherboard arrived with the PCI x16 slot partially broken. I knew it was broken before I opened the product box. Motherboards should not rattle.

Cons: Well, I haven't had one work properly yet, and I'm about to get my third one, so...

Other Thoughts: I went with EVGA this build because I've heard nothing but good things about their service and performance. As such, I have an EVGA power supply, EVGA graphics card, and EVGA motherboard. When the first motherboard wouldn't POST when a GPU was plugged into it, they instructed me to ship in my graphics card. I got a replacement graphics card, which ALSO did not work. They then instructed me to ship in my motherboard.

I WAS FORCED TO PAY SHIPPING ON THIS SHIPMENT, BECAUSE WHILE WAITING FOR THE REPLACEMENT GRAPHICS CARD, MY 30 DAY PERIOD WITH THE MOTHERBOARD EXPIRED.

The RMA completed, I waited until the replacement arrived. It arrived today. I called EVGA immediately, and now am in the process of yet another RMA.

5 out of 5 eggsEVGA feels under rated as a mainboard manufacturer

Pros: First off, it booted up the first time without any issues even with a set of memory not specifically approved by EVGA.

Lots of really cool fit and finish features. I love the on board power buttons, the on board CPU temp readout. I like that there is a cover for the I/O components. I like the design of the rear I/O panel which is a nice matte black instead of the typical polished aluminum. Tons of fan power sockets. Two BIOS saves. Power toggleing PCIe slots. Attractive colors. Appears to have plenty of overclocking tools and support.

Cons: None as of yet. I am becomming an EVGA fan

Other Thoughts: I have this board with EVGAs GTX 980 and the EVGA 850 power supply in a cooler master HAF 922 and everything looks like it belongs together. Has run smoothly since first bootup.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Very clean easy to read board. Quality build overall. Wonderful easy to use bios. Sharp looks as well. More than enough fan headers. Debug codes/CPU temp on board (great if you have a clear side panel)

Cons: The I/O cover. Mine came with a slight bend on screw holes. Looks sweet. Just be careful with your discreet. If like the MSI GTX 960/970 100 ME it has a back plate it will not clear that card at all (found out after forgetting it first time). PCI slots could be just a hair lower to allow it.

CPU power. Yeah. Fun fun location. Watch your case and you will be alright although you may want a slightly longer length from PSU.

Bottom power connection. Yeah. Faces like the sata ports and is actually blocked in my case.

Arrived with a warp. I say the worries about the heat sink and still decided that it's EVGA one of the last customer friendly companies. Other than the warp from tight packaging it did arrive fine

Cons: motherboard board nice design but it does not work! I set every thing up, when I turned it on I heared 4 beefs( that mean System has failured as I check on the website) . I contacted evga technical support and worked with them in an hours, but we could not get solution for it. I returned it.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely great

Pros: The motherboard has 6 I mean 6 pwm controllable fan headers and one power fan header. Also this has a great PCI express layout and has 6 SATA III ports by the Intel chipset and an extra 2 by the marble chipset. And includes a dual easy to use bios which can easily over clock and type of Intel processor.

Cons: Not really a con but the AUX 6 pin power connector is at the left hand bottom corner and should be unnecessary

Other Thoughts: The new bios is really easy to use here is my build
