How powerful are the new X1650 Graphic Processor Unit video cards? "Better check to see if you can handle it" powerful, and that's no exaggeration! Some of the new boards require PCI Express; this board lets those of us with an AGP 4x/8x slot play, too. Sapphire's 100197L is an AGP 4X/8X board that can handle all that Vista can dish out. It's based on the Radeon X1650 GPU from ATi and loaded with 256MB of GDDR2.

VGA and DVI-I ports let you hook up your choice of monitors. Or you can use both ports and give yourself plenty of screen real estate for games or large tasks. The S-Video port lets you send a HDTV/component or composite signal in addition to S-video to your TV.

Speed and power. Brilliance, high contrast, and vivid colors. The versatility to plug it into your monitor, your tv, or your video projector. You're going to like what you see.

4 out of 5 eggsWorth It!

Pros: Runs Age of Empires 3 pretty well at Max settings. Battlefield 2142 runs really well also. Still waiting to try Company of Heroes and Battlefield 2, but I suspect they will run great too!.

Cons: As another reviewer said, the 7.4 driver is the one that seemed to be bug-free and work well with Windows XP.

P.S. Search google for the 7.4 driver.

Other Thoughts: Well worth the price, and as others said, a very good way to bring life back to your AGP system if you don't have the money to upgrade.

1 out of 5 eggsOverheating Issue

Pros: Has decent performance in many newer games, at least, as much as I could determine in five minutes of play.

Good price.

Cons: Overheated five minutes into every game I tested.

Poor Sapphire QC

Other Thoughts: This card is decent as far as specs are concerned, and is priced good, but I question the overall quality of the hardware. I experienced an overheating issue five minutes into any game I tried to play - I thought it was a problem with the PC getting too hot, so I tested the card in another PC and had identical results.

Ordered on a Thursday morning 7:30AM CST, paid for next day air and rush order fee (this card was an upgrade for a client's PC, and I needed it ASAP), but it didn't ship until the following Monday, and ended up arriving on Tuesday - that's three business days after the order was placed. That kind of made the overall experience even worse. However, NewEgg issued the RMA instantly, so it's not all bad.

5 out of 5 eggsHappy card friends

Pros: It's simple it's easy it's safe. Downloaded new drivers from ATI then updated to .net and then did the install. working with the catalyst made all the difference. Ut 2004 highest settings no problem. 60 fps easy average

Cons: Wish i had bought this sooner. Really i played UT2004 and for the last five or six years iv been doing it with a saphire 9200 se card. That and the card i got has the new heat sink and fan setup. Not disapointed just thought i would get one thing only to get another.

Other Thoughts: I think that this is saphires lowest 1650 entry being there are other cards with better ram options. This is not the card i wanted but it had free shipping and was in stock when i was placing my order. After installing and messing with some of the settings i can't complian. It can be overclocked but haven't gone there yet. After five or more years with a 9200 i would have bought the 512 model that looks just like the 256 if i had known the heat sink and fan were the same. newegg should update thier photos.

4 out of 5 eggsGood budget card

Pros: Probably the best bang for the buck in an AGP card. Reasonably quiet. Seems to run pretty well.

Cons: That chip on the underside of the card with the pink, rubbery pad gets extremely hot! It is the Rialto PCI-E to AGP Bridge chip. Do not remove the pad; it's apparently there for protection and heat dissipation.

Other Thoughts: Recent versions of the ATI driver prevent it from running Direct3D applications (at least on Win XP). The bug affects other AGP cards as well, so is not the card's fault. I found the most recent driver that works is the Catalyst 7.4. Use dxdiag to test; it will fail the D3D tests if you have one of the bad drivers.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card at a great price

Pros: Good price. Good performance. Fast Delivery. Just what you need to keep AGP computer in the game.

Cons: Gets a little hot. Be sure you follow instructions.

Other Thoughts: Bought this card to replace a Radeon 9700pro that had the RAM fail after many years. I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised to find that it runs the new EVE graphics just fine. This card is definite improvement over 9700pro but still weak compared to most pci-express cards. Note: Be sure you follow the instructions and uninstall all ATI drivers before performing the install. I did this and had no issues - installation took 5-10 minutes.

The card does get a little hot. It has a rubber sticker on a chip on the underside of the card. This is a passive heat-sink and should be left on the unit, IMHO. The card does heat up but ran games for 4 hours with no issues. Left the PC on all night long, no heat issues.

I'm pretty happy with this card right now. I'll update this if it fails in the next few months, though, as that is always a concern for new purchases.

New Egg - you guys rock!! Got this in less than a week from placing the order. OUTSTANDING !

4 out of 5 eggsGood card...but...

Pros: Worked right out of the box. Didnt bother with the CD, already had the drivers downloaded.

Cons: Anytime i try to change the fan control settings or overclock it in any way, my screen goes funky with green/purple lines then goes black.

Other Thoughts: If not for the fan control and overclock issues i'd give this card 5 eggs. But, since my last card didnt even have a fan, and it was so old that there was no point to overclock it, i still give it 4 eggs.

4 out of 5 eggsGood solid card

Pros: Good speed for what it is, stable, handles most games pretty well.

Cons: Tends to run kinda warm (warmer by a noticeable amount compared to a 7600GT) but performance doesn't seem to be affected. Just get a case with decent air flow and a couple of fans)

Not the fastest card out there, memory speed is not real high, 382.50 MHz to be exact. By 800, they must mean effective (how high it can possibly reach if overclocked).

Other Thoughts: Over, turns out to be a pretty decent card that still handles games pretty well (and does real good on WoW with the eye candy...which is mainly used for on my bros' comp) (use it with at least 1 GB of system memory to help with that) due to the newer GPU and 256 MB of memory and the clock speed is pretty good. I can always overclock the memory to a higher speed later if need be I suppose, but still does fine. So if you do lite-moderate gaming, this should do fine for you. Replaced my bros' Nvidia 5200.

5 out of 5 eggsa good card

Pros: Installed it in an old old OOLD socket a athlon xp 2100 oc'd to 2200+ speeds. Huge bottleneck, but it runs oblivion with HDR and stuff at 30fps

Cons: it decided not to work one day, think it was my PSU's fault. RMAing it and getting a replacement

Other Thoughts: if you have an older system get this model not the 512mb version older systems can't utilize the extra memory good enough
