Take your AGP system into the Vista age with Sapphire’s Radeon X1950GT based card. Loaded with 256MB of GDDR3 memory it easily handles Vista. How powerful is it? "Better check to see if your power supply can handle it" powerful, and that's no exaggeration! The 256bit memory bandwidth and 1200MHz memory clock make sure that there are no bottlenecks between the GPU and the memory.
Features two DVI-I ports and compliant so you can watch HD programming with no problems. The S-Video port can (with included adapter) deliver component and composite video signals in addition to S-Video. DVI to VGA adapters let you attach your CRT monitors if you haven’t gone flat panel yet.
Speed and power. Brilliance, high contrast, and vivid colors. The versatility to plug it into your monitor, your TV, or your video projector. You're going to like what you see.

- Pros: Excellent, high speed card. Is very stable and over-clocks well. Much faster than most AGP systems... certainly it outclasses my 3.2G P4. Plays everything at very high or ultra high settings. This will be the last video upgrade and yet get me a few more years with this system, I imagine.
- Cons: ATI's Catalyst Control Center (CCC) is a pig. It requires MS .Net Framework 2.0 or later to be installed. It's slow and cumbersome to use. There is no control panel, beyond WinXP's basic, without CCC being loaded.
The DVI-VGA adapaters did not work... they locked the computer at boot up. I thought I was going to have to buy a DVI capable flat panel but I tried it with an adapter that came with my 6600GT and that worked.
- Other Thoughts: I'd suggest installing ATITrayTools after you get tired of the slow CCC. It's fast, easy to configure, small, does everything CCC does and more. It also handles overclocking with greater flexibility than ATI's overdrive in CCC.
Nice upgrade for me
- Pros: I upgraded from a 9800XT so this was a big jump for me. WoW went from 20 or less FPS to a solid 60FPS with everything cranked.
- Cons: None so far. Just make sure your ready for the extra power it needs and heat it produces!
- Other Thoughts: Neweggs rebate system is horrid. Ignore the rebate completely. You'll have to register with another rebate site (more email spam) just to be able to mail it in. And if you didnt read the fine print you better have printed off the rebate form in advanced!!! My personal opinion of newegg has dropped over this. I wont let GIMMICKS (rebates) sway where I shop from now on.

Don't do it!
- Pros: Good performance for AGP, IF it works. Mine locks in games.
- Cons: Its physically large. It consumes a lot of power for the performance. It requires two molex connectors. But, most importantly, mine FREEZES and BLUE SCREENS in games. Good luck with Sapphire customer support. I couldn't even post on their forums after registering. Their product information on the website is also almost not existent. Their FAQs are not worth mentioning.
- Other Thoughts: I thought this was the perfect card, but apparently there are many bugs in ATI products and customer complaints are common. This card has been a complete waste of time.
fast and hot
- Pros: In comparison to other agp cards, this card is fast and very overclockeable with sufficient cooling. With this card (and amd64 4000 and 2gb ddr400) Crysis autodetects graphics at medium level. That's impressive for an outdated graphics interface.
Apparently this card is hard to find in stock. If you're thinking about it, order while you can.
- Cons: This card runs hot!!! In a well cooled case I was getting temps in the 90's (that's celcius, almost hot enough to boil water!!) The stock cooler on this thing is loud and insufficient.
I paused Crysis for dinner and came back about 35min later to discover that my card had burnt out. It would artifact very heavily. RMA'd for a new one via the newegg online chat feature. RMA sucks, but newegg was great about the process and paid for overnight delivery on the replacement. Sweet.
- Other Thoughts: Consider upgrading to pci-x before buying an agp card. agp is a slower interface and is therefore less cost effective. The cost of a pci-x motherboard and a pci-x graphics card may be the same cost as (or less than) an agp card.
After the first one died, I ordered an aftermarket cooler, the ZALMAN VF900. It's an **excellent** cooler. Now I am able to overclock to x1950pro speeds and higher: 625mhz core, 750mhz memory (that's 1500mhz effective) with an idle temp of ~30C and a load temp that never exceeds 44C. This card could handle even more.
I upgraded from a GeForce 6800 and the difference is amazing. As others have mentioned, I wouldn't recommend ati's CCC. I used ati traytools for a while with great results but one of the advanced settings was messing up Crysis (though other games were just fine). Right now I'm using riv@tuner (*sp for the newgg filter) to overclock along with the default/minimal ati drivers.
Wow ! What a Card.
- Pros: Card installed and drivers loaded with no problems on xp pc. Plays Far Cry on the games highest settings.
- Cons: None so far.
