Good Videocards, fast but hot
- Pros: Fast card - blows away my former HD2900XT. Changed the fan profile to 35% fan speed and brought both cards temp. down to 49C. 2nd card I ordered had lockup problems on booting, RMA'd to newegg and they took care of it no sweat. Hats off to newegg ! Set 3d fan speed to 50% and furmark testing to 100%. Works beautifully
- Cons: Hot card, wish either AMD or Sapphire would come out with a new bios that starts the fans at a higher speed instead of the 22% stock.
- Other Thoughts: Draws an enormous amount of power when testing using furmark. Well over the 160w its rated for. Of course that it what furmark is designed to do, stress the card to the max. Passed all tests with flying colors
Amazing Highend Budget
- Pros: The best bang for your buck. Runs Crysis max no AA/2x AA 1440x900 at smooth rates. Maxes UT3 and runs it very smoothly. Crysis still proves a worthy challenger... but honestly, many would argue it is because Crysis uses computing power inefficiently (many games run much smoother than crysis and look the same as medium or high modes).
I only use the game as a benchmark really.... this card handles any enjoyable games... lol
- Cons: Fan speed has no options in CCC. Youtube the 4870 fan fix to run it cooler. Temperature gets up there, but fan speed @ 50% is quiet and cool. Anything 60+ sounds much louder though. I don't think the fan noise is enough to dock off an egg though.
- Other Thoughts: Haven't tried an OC, but I might with extreme fan speeds sometime to see how much different it is.
First time on ATi's
- Pros: I've been a loyal nVidia user for almost 7 years.
Turned red this time around, no regrets.
This card hands down outperforms 260's. (with a little bit of OC.) Price is fair, unlike the 280's @ $4**. AND if I wanted to, I can set up a cross fire on my P5B-D!
- Cons: game it came with sucks. doesn't come with the Thumb drive like one of the company did for GPU Bios.
- Other Thoughts: easy to overclock, price is fair, gets a bit hot without the fan fix.
Running 790/1100 stock cooling @65% fan speed. Temp: 50C ~ 55C on load, not bad at all. Huge performance boost from 8800GTS superclocked.
