5 out of 5 eggsAwesome card

Pros: I wrote a review earlier, saying I wanted to wait for the 1gb version... but then broke down and got this one anyway-- got two actually-

Nothing slows me down..

Nothing is going to do so for many, many, many years...

I am not sure how review sites fail at unleashing the power in this card- It is really a gem- that absolutely PEGS the capabilities of any software out now..

It does this and never even see's 50c --

The vapor chamber cooling technology is literally light years beyond anything else... That is why these cards are still over 200 bucks...

Because they are not only the cream of the chip - crop...

They also have the best heat sync availible- and Toxic's are the only cards that have them.

low temps = long life.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: Perhaps now you may want to wait for a 1 gb version of this card, but there is no guarantee that card will ever arrive-

However.. as an investment--- you really cannot go wrong.

Simply an awesome card.

5 out of 5 eggsWowza

Pros: This graphics card is amazing, with onboard running minimum settings 12fps. With this card with max settings 40fps. Good solid card, this is number 2 and i just cant get over how solid these products are.

Cons: Runs a little hot, but thats just nitpicking, very large card, barely fit. Will need to get new case to feel 100% comfortable with running it for gaming purposes.

5 out of 5 eggsUnstoppable

Pros: This card is unstoppable. For the first time in my life, I can run everything at highest settings. Gosh, that just feels good. I haven't bothered to overclock...don't see the need. No heat problems, and my case sits inside an enclosure below my desk with lousy airflow. I think the "copper" pipes are cool looking. Very pleased, and when I can afford to upgrade to a Crossfire board, I plan to get another.

Cons: Still over 2 C's.

5 out of 5 eggsWow, what a Card!

Pros: Great FPS and picture quality. Software offers wide control abilities. O.C. self test works perfectly. HDMI out to HDTV is awsome. Instant recognition of HDTV and monitor. Software included is a bonus to the overall value.

Cons: Very large card, make sure it will fit in your case and if the install will cover SATA's or other connections.

Other Thoughts: 1st review with additional review after upgrade. Currently installed (Backwards Compatable) on MSI: Neo4-f, FX-55 (939), Creative XF-I, WD 320Gb HD and it works great. Soon will be on MSI: 790FX-GD70 with X3 720 CPU. Will do second review after upgrade. If you don't have x16 (2.0) it still has advantages on x16 (1.0) lane. 4870 "toxic" replaced an EVGA, Nvidea What a great value. Such an improvement that "Crossfire" must be increadable, so that is the next upgrade. Yet all by itself this card is powerful. Sure glad to be back to ATI products.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Decent price, good performance. I haven't played a whole lot on it yet, just bioshock/oblivion/wow and eq2. Cranked up all settigns on all games and was getting smooth framerates at 1680x1050. Runs quiet and cool (44c at idle I believe I saw). Lowest my framerate dipped in wow was 25-30 in dalaran (40+ in some spots and 60-80 in most areas) at maxed out with 1xAA. I set EQ2 to Extreme Quality at 1680x1050 and was getting 30+ fps in one of the starting areas, not a big EQ2 fan, just doing the trial, so I dont know much about it. Didn't pull FPS in Bioshock/Oblivion but they were definitely running 30+fps at max quality 1680x1050.

AMX Phenom II X4 920 (2.8ghz)
Mushkin 4GB DDR8500

Cons: Two power connections required and a little bulky card, as is to be expected.

Other Thoughts: Card seems to be solid, have not tried overclocking yet, but I've heard these can be overclocked a decent amount out of the box with the vapor cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsDetermination that is incorruptible....

Pros: I bought this to replace my HD3870, but not because I needed a replacement, I just had money and severe impulsive drive. It stays really cool with the vapor cooler, 2 degrees hotter than my friend's Sapphire 4870 with their other custom cooler at default speeds. Runs as smooth as possible with an X2 5400+ behind it.

Cons: Takes up 2 1.5" bay drives in my mid tower, the case for the heatsink is as long as the card (Which is cool in my case but some may find it not so nice*. It doesn't cook me bacon *though I'm sure if I disassembled the cooler I could fry bacon on it*.

Other Thoughts: It cost me 200$ and about 12 years off my life when it POSTed it's self after system POST and caught me off guard with the fan going 100% RPM while I was fidgiting with it. I was going to buy a pony with that money... oh well. We'll see how this runs with a Phenom II 920 running it.

PS, I don't know if this card is truely indestructible but It's no slouch in number crunching.

5 out of 5 eggsBrilliant!

Pros: Runs great! Very cool. Easy to install, looks like a million bucks if you have a window.

Can we hear it for real copper tubes? Nickel and chrome on the other Sapphire (and other brands) models are a big turn-off to me. Copper performs noticeably better and this card has a MUCH bigger radiator compared to most models.

Go look at the MSI and ASUS models; they have 4 tubes (MSI has copper, ASUS does NOT) but the actual radiator on those models has shorter dimensions (length and width) compare it to the size of the board and transistors. The sapphire toxic has beefy copper pipes and a radiator that covers most of the surface of the board (almost all the way to the back edge, and all the way to both sides)

I overclock mine to 850mhz (core) and 1150mhz (memory) and it stays less than 58* (my old 4850 would hit 94*) the whole time. It can only clock this high due to the efficient cooling mechanism, which I locked at 40% speed (stock was 28% speed)

Cons: None, it is a great card, great price if you can wait for the rebate, and it destroys modern games if your system is put together well.

Other Thoughts: The 1Gb was a lot more expensive when I bought ($40) so I skipped on it. I don't regret it, in a year or two when games need more texture memory I'll be rocking a 4870x2 2Gb (they'll be $180 just like I paid for this) so I don't really think it matters too much. I've also heard the 1Gb models don't overclock as well (dual density ram gets hotter) but who knows, the 512mb does it for now.

If you plan on keeping it for more than a year or two, you might want the 1Gb if you have the extra dough.

5 out of 5 eggs4870HD

Pros: Very nice looking card. Quiet operation. Definitely ordering another one for Crossfire!

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: ATI Catalyst Control center with "Overdrive" is great. I don't recommend the Auto-Tune though. Got 24,000+ on 3D Mark 05 with Core I7 920. Is the entire width of my motherboard! Make sure you have a LARGE case.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Upgraded from two 4830's and have noticed a considerable increase in performance. It has the same amount of memory as the 4830 but GDDR5 blows away GDDR3. I can run AOE III at full settings(including AA) with no hiccups.

Cons: I have a mid-tower case and only have about an inch or two of clearance between the card and my HD mount. Just move your HD to a lower level and you should be fine.

This card is loud, even with the fan at 45% I can still hear a loud distinct whistling noise coming from it.

This card also runs hot, with idle temps between 45-49C and 60C+ under stress. It heats up my dorm room a couple of degrees if I leave it running all day.

Other Thoughts: +It scores a 5.9 on the Vista test.
+Make sure you have enough space, the cooler will take up a second slot and the length is around 9 inches.
