Sapphire brings the power of graphics ‘supercomputing’ to enthusiasts with their Vapor-X Radeon HD 4870 card. Built on Sapphire's original Vapor Chamber Technology, this card will bring the benefits of Vapor-X cooling - quieter and more efficient cooling - to a wider range of users. A new distinctive cooler design makes the Vapor-X Series stand out in looks as well as performance.

The Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD 4870 card has 2GB of high-performance GDDR5 memory, clocked at 900MHz (3.6Gbps effective) and the GPU core is clocked at 750MHz. Supporting AMD CrossFireX technology, two high-speed connectors on each card allow two or more cards to be used together for enhanced performance when installed in a CrossFireX compatible motherboard.

The Radeon HD 4870 incorporates the latest ATI Avivo HD Technology for enhanced Video display, and features a second generation built-in UVD (Unified Video decoder) for the hardware accelerated decoding of Blu-ray and HD DVD content for VC-1, H.264 and MPEG-2 codecs, considerably reducing CPU load. The card’s HDMI connector supports multi-channel audio formats (up to 7.1) and combines audio and video output on a single cable for direct connection to an HDMI ready display. Support for DirectX10.1 ensures the optimal performance and application compatibility with all DirectX10.1 applications and enables stunning 3D graphics and shading effects in the latest DirectX10.1 games.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Still working 3 years later. Just now having issues with games. SR3 didnt play well on ultra. Anno 2070 was also rough. Issues may be inside a dying windows install tho. Its time for an upgrade regardless.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: Looks great. Nice quality board with attractive vaporX fan units. This old card would still be great for any MMO player. RIFT ran for years without a single lag spike on max settings (crossfire pair). When you move to intense FPS graphics it will fall short as its generations behind.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: It can handle all my games on maximum graphics, and maximum resolution, at a very high fps. It was pretty easy to install.

Cons: It's huge, it takes up 2 slots. And the price.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat a great card!

Pros: We have two installed and bridged for Crossfire. Incredible gaming performance. Picture is beautiful on LG LDC 1080p monitor. Excellent products.

Cons: Way large. One pushes against the mobo's SATA plugs, and the other doesn't let me hook up the case's front panel audio connector. But I don't guess they can make them smaller and keep them cool at the same time ... at least, not yet!

Other Thoughts: Entire NewEgg system:

2 out of 5 eggsConsider before purchase

Pros: It's got 2GB of video Memory! Xfire with this would run 4GB! That's insane specs... to bad the performance sucks. It's an upgrade to some slower, low end cards?

Cons: Very poor performance, my old G force 8800 GTX runs circles around this thing.

Other Thoughts: I will never again buy an ati card over the geforce series. I've owned several of both and it's just obvious to me that the geforce cards are superior.

5 out of 5 eggsCan't belive my eyes

Pros: I am an avid MMO player, and was looking for a card that could chew up upcoming games, on top of EVE Online, which demands quite a bit. I play EVE maxed out no sweat, maxes out between 38C and 40C. I was expecting to have to Crossfire this thing to play Crysis maxed out, but this chews right threw it. Worth every penny.

Cons: even if I wanted to Crossfire it, too big for my case. But I knew it might be anyway, so not really a con.

Other Thoughts: If my wife was okay with it this card would be my second wife.

5 out of 5 eggsThe power!

Pros: Excellent card for the money. Actually replaced my 512mb version with this. Much better cooler. Nice to be able to hear myself think over the fan.

Cons: None really

Other Thoughts: Not a massive difference in fps of course. I bought this to let me crank draw distances to the max. Will see a massive improvement once I upgrade to 64bit Win7.

Cons: None, Price is even great. Maybe a little warm under load, Not really a con, Does well.

Other Thoughts: I recomend this card

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing card

Pros: This thing is very fast! The 2gb of ram on it is great for video editing and encoding, and it lets you devote a ton of that ram to most games. Every game I have played with this card has run flawlessly and at full settings!

Cons: The only con I had was a personal problem. I was experiencing really annoying frame stuttering in every game I played. I tried every possible fix besides a full reformat. Well before I RMA'd the card I had to reformat just to be sure, and sure enough, I must have had some driver corruption from my previous card or something because after a full reformat I haven't had one problem. The card does idle pretty high around 60-65c. But I don't really mind noise at 100% fan speed it idles at around 40 c. So much for vapor-x technology I guess :D

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: great graphics. runs cool with vapor-x. lots of headroom for overlocking. i ran the auto tune and it overclocked to 790 and 1090 (750 and 900 stock)...huge jump on memory, still running cool, 60c max under load...i like the throttle down to 500mhz when not using, saves some power. i turned up cs:s everything to high including aa and af, and i get 150 fps on 1920x1080 res. just amazing. and thats with a 5600+ as my cpu. (2.9mhz)...cant wait to get a new cpu and see what my games are like...also runs cod waw on high, smooth play.

Cons: none that i can think of

Other Thoughts: i bought it on CL for 125...what a steal...
