Sapphire brings the power of graphics ‘supercomputing’ to enthusiasts with their Vapor-X Radeon HD 4870 card. Built on Sapphire's original Vapor Chamber Technology, this card will bring the benefits of Vapor-X cooling - quieter and more efficient cooling - to a wider range of users. A new distinctive cooler design makes the Vapor-X Series stand out in looks as well as performance.
The Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD 4870 card has 2GB of high-performance GDDR5 memory, clocked at 900MHz (3.6Gbps effective) and the GPU core is clocked at 750MHz. Supporting AMD CrossFireX technology, two high-speed connectors on each card allow two or more cards to be used together for enhanced performance when installed in a CrossFireX compatible motherboard.
The Radeon HD 4870 incorporates the latest ATI Avivo HD Technology for enhanced Video display, and features a second generation built-in UVD (Unified Video decoder) for the hardware accelerated decoding of Blu-ray and HD DVD content for VC-1, H.264 and MPEG-2 codecs, considerably reducing CPU load. The card’s HDMI connector supports multi-channel audio formats (up to 7.1) and combines audio and video output on a single cable for direct connection to an HDMI ready display. Support for DirectX10.1 ensures the optimal performance and application compatibility with all DirectX10.1 applications and enables stunning 3D graphics and shading effects in the latest DirectX10.1 games.

Vapor-X 4870 2gb
- Pros: Card is extremely quiet even under load, and is completely inaudible at idle. Temperatures are nice, leading to very good overclocking. I've never been one to let the card use its "auto" fan speed control, but with this card, it works flawlessly, I never have to adjust it even under hours of GTA IV. In my antec 300 with two 120mm intake fans (only about 30-40 cfm) my card hits usually high 60's-low 70's under load... which is absolutely nothing to worry about.
- Cons: none so to speak, besides the price premium, but what you're paying for is the exceptional cooling design, which is well worth it if you're interesting in having a very quiet yet high performing card. ATI cards do not fold as well as nVidia's, but that's nothing something specific to this card. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase
- Other Thoughts: The 2GB onboard is not at all useless, especially for games in resolutions of 1080P or higher. A prime example is GTA IV which uses about 1.5GB of memory on its highest settings at 1920x1080. Not to mention game developers are now making games that utilize this memory even more, so it's an investment, not a waste, as the other person said.
Surprise! (For me anyway.)
- Pros: 2 Gig mem, 2.4 teraflops of GPU power, 1600 stream units, capacitors are a good thing. I see alot in this card. Vapor-x cooling. max out Blu-ray video (Not real sure how you can do that to more than Blu-ray but....that's the spec. ) I expect 2 of these to max out Crysis and more but I will see about that.
- Cons: No Toxic version, (Yet) but I can live with that for now.
Outputs, I see DVI, HDMI, and.... Analog output??? Should be 2 DVI and an HDMI. as listed in Egg specs.
- Other Thoughts: All looks good on paper, is 2 gig mem worth it? 2 of these are replacing 2 Toxic 3870's. This pc will eventually be my first HTPC system until I build an i7 rig for gaming. HDMI output is good. Monitor is a 42" 1080p. Sapphire is the best out there. Ordered 2 4870 Toxic 1gb yesterday and these showed up online today(Surprise) and Newegg changed everything to help me get these when I made a call to them. Thanx Egg!!!!!!!

What a great card!
- Pros: We have two installed and bridged for Crossfire. Incredible gaming performance. Picture is beautiful on LG LDC 1080p monitor. Excellent products.
- Cons: Way large. One pushes against the mobo's SATA plugs, and the other doesn't let me hook up the case's front panel audio connector. But I don't guess they can make them smaller and keep them cool at the same time ... at least, not yet!
- Other Thoughts: Entire NewEgg system:
Thermaltake Armor+MX Mid-tower case Seventeam 850W SLI/CrossFire Ready Power Supply ASUS P5Q Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P45 Intel Motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz LGA 775 Processor 3 SAMSUNG HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drives G.SKILL Ripjaws 8GB (4 x 2GB) SDRAM DDR2 1200 Memory LG 8X Internal LG Blu-ray Reader & DVD±R DVD Burner SAPPHIRE Vapor-X HD 4870 2GB CrossFire Video Card
Only Non-NewEgg component: LG 23” Widescreen Multi-Function LCD Monitor/TV ($299.99 locally at Conn's)
Consider before purchase
- Pros: It's got 2GB of video Memory! Xfire with this would run 4GB! That's insane specs... to bad the performance sucks. It's an upgrade to some slower, low end cards?
- Cons: Very poor performance, my old G force 8800 GTX runs circles around this thing.
- Other Thoughts: I will never again buy an ati card over the geforce series. I've owned several of both and it's just obvious to me that the geforce cards are superior.
Can't belive my eyes
- Pros: I am an avid MMO player, and was looking for a card that could chew up upcoming games, on top of EVE Online, which demands quite a bit. I play EVE maxed out no sweat, maxes out between 38C and 40C. I was expecting to have to Crossfire this thing to play Crysis maxed out, but this chews right threw it. Worth every penny.
- Cons: even if I wanted to Crossfire it, too big for my case. But I knew it might be anyway, so not really a con.
- Other Thoughts: If my wife was okay with it this card would be my second wife.
