Sapphire brings the power of graphics ‘supercomputing’ to enthusiasts with their Vapor-X Radeon HD 4850 card. Built on Sapphire's original Vapor Chamber Technology, this card will bring the benefits of Vapor-X cooling - quieter and more efficient cooling - to a wider range of users.

This versatile and powerful card has 1GB of high-performance GDDR3 memory, clocked at 650MHz, and the GPU core is clocked at 1000MHz. Supporting AMD CrossFireX technology, two high-speed connectors on each card allow two or more cards to be used together for enhanced performance when installed in a CrossFireX compatible motherboard.

The Radeon HD 4850 incorporates the latest ATI Avivo HD Technology for enhanced video display, and features a second generation built-in UVD 2 (Unified Video decoder 2) for the hardware accelerated decoding of Blu-ray and HD DVD content for VC-1, H.264 and MPEG-2 codecs, reducing CPU load. The card’s HDMI connector supports multi-channel audio formats (up to 7.1) and combines audio and video output on a single cable for direct connection to an HDMI ready display. Support for DirectX10.1 ensures optimal compatibility with all DirectX10.1 applications and enables stunning 3D graphics and shading effects in the latest games.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat performance

Pros: This card performs very well for the price.

Cons: Comes with bright blue LED. This was not in the description and so I was very dissapointed when I first installed the card. It's not worth returning since it doesn't show through the case that much, but it's worth a couple eggs at least.

Other Thoughts: This card runs every game I throw at it in the highest settings (except AA) without dropping below my monitor's 70fps limit. The highest AA I can use while keeping my 70fps is about 2 or 4x depending on the game. For the price it's still great though.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent Card

Pros: This isn't your top end card by any means, but that doesn't mean it can't cut the mustard. If you are wanting to run the very latest gaming software then you are probably going to have some small issues where you can't run this thing maxed out, but I promise you if you turn the settings down just a little you can play anything thats out there. Unless you are willing to pay top dollar you can't expect top performance.

This thing installed with ease! CD drivers are fine. People who struggle with CD drivers either have not business installing hardware or they are using older technology...way older. Its a piece of cake people.

Cons: NONE!

Other Thoughts: Still over priced in my book. These is 2nd tier tech now. Should go for less than a hundred more.

5 out of 5 eggsWow

Pros: Very pleased, good performance. Love the larger fan on this card its much quieter than smaller, faster spinning fans Ive had previously on other, older cards. IMHO best bang for your buck on the market right now.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive card for the money

Pros: It does all my gaming well (even Crysis...) at 1920 x 1080. I run XP 64bit hence it is limited to DX9, had tried Vista but could not see perceivable difference in DX10 to justify the pain of Vista. Oh... how painful it was.
The card is absolutely silent at desktop and I truly love it just for that. The fan becomes noticeable during gaming, but the game music drowns the fan sound. Of course, it is not that loud after all, my CPU fan is louder at full blast.

Cons: There really aren't any negatives I can think of, it does all and beyond I expect it to. Maybe the pesky rebate I have not received yet... but it does take 2-3 months to get it and it has been approved already.

Other Thoughts: I'm a silent PC freak, the 4850 fan is noticeable during games over my 3870 which was silent after I reprogrammed its BIOS with modified thermal profile. Although, they make different background noise and I have not gotten used to it yet. The 4850 fan creates a softer noise which drowns in the background easily.

This card earns 100% score and I absolutely recommend it to anyone not hung up on anti-aliasing. For that, you need at least 5850 or suffer severe frame rate drops during explosions and the like.

I run Athlon X2 6400 with 4GB or DDR2, all without any overclock. It is fast enough for me as is...

5 out of 5 eggsRunning great so far

Pros: Runs great, isn't running hot at all. Put it in a Dell XPS computer that was about 5 or 4 years old and the card didnt require more power than the proprietary power supply could output so that is good. Old computer plays SC2 okay, at least it allowed him to jack up the settings and resolution. I am sure the rest of the computer is holding the video card back. Card is shiny and beutiful to look at.

Cons: The card doesn't like some of the updated ATI drivers, odd but easily fixed. Remember, newer drivers are not always better drivers (knowing this will save you a lot of frustration).

Other Thoughts: I have built more than 30+ computers in my life. Threw it into my friend's Dell XPS computer that is pretty old and has brought a breath of fresh air to that machine. Computer is running Windows XP, 3 GB DDR2 533Mhz RAM (one is PC2-6400 but the old DELL RAM sticks are slowing down the system), Pentium D 3.0Ghz. (HDD & CD-ROMS are unimportant)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for mid level gaming

Pros: Inexpensive. 256 bit memory bus. External exhaust. Short footprint compared to 4870 and newer cards like the 5830. Lower power demands compared to current gen cards. Cool blue light on top of exhaust sheath for those that have windowed cases.

Cons: Dated hardware - one generation behind ATi's current flagship cards. Catalyst Control Center is buggy in vista 64. Runs hotter than a comparable 5750, but is slightly cheaper with 256 bus.

Other Thoughts: Bought as a small upgrade from a 512mb 8800gt. Wanted a card for around $100 with 256bit memory bus that would fit in my case and run cooler than the 8800gt. I also needed a card that I knew would run efficiently on a 500w psu. This fit the bill. I only play WoW, but at 1920x1200 this card pushes well over 100 fps in most areas including Dalaran when paired with an i3 530 and 4gb ram. Have had to disable Catalyst Control Center in order to stop stuttering in WoW. Not a knock on the card - more a knock on ATi's driver utility. Hope to use this for about a year until the price of 5830's come down to around $100.
