Sapphire brings the power of graphics ‘supercomputing’ to enthusiasts with their Vapor-X Radeon HD 4850 card. Built on Sapphire's original Vapor Chamber Technology, this card will bring the benefits of Vapor-X cooling - quieter and more efficient cooling - to a wider range of users.
This versatile and powerful card has 1GB of high-performance GDDR3 memory, clocked at 650MHz, and the GPU core is clocked at 1000MHz. Supporting AMD CrossFireX technology, two high-speed connectors on each card allow two or more cards to be used together for enhanced performance when installed in a CrossFireX compatible motherboard.
The Radeon HD 4850 incorporates the latest ATI Avivo HD Technology for enhanced video display, and features a second generation built-in UVD 2 (Unified Video decoder 2) for the hardware accelerated decoding of Blu-ray and HD DVD content for VC-1, H.264 and MPEG-2 codecs, reducing CPU load. The card’s HDMI connector supports multi-channel audio formats (up to 7.1) and combines audio and video output on a single cable for direct connection to an HDMI ready display. Support for DirectX10.1 ensures optimal compatibility with all DirectX10.1 applications and enables stunning 3D graphics and shading effects in the latest games.

Good Buy
- Pros: Great card, silent fan, worked right away, HDMI Audio out worked perfectly. No complaints
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: I haven't gamed with it yet as it was purchased for a HTPC build, but if I run into any issues with games, I will definitely update the comments!
Nice and Quiet
- Pros: I'm really impressed with this card! I have 3 other Sapphire cards, two of which are 4850s (toxic). This card is very quiet, a great improvement! Staying around 35C idle and around 40C when under load. 1GB version also helps with performance. The native HDMI output is nice addition.
- Cons: VGA? Does anyone still use that? Why not put two DVI or two HDMI outputs and have a VGA adapter?
- Other Thoughts: I'm using the HDMI output and it works great! One cable for video and audio. Can't go wrong with that!
Vapor-X is awesome!

- Pros: Good graphic card. no noise fan. After all update from VISTA temperature is fine.
PS. Most of the time the hardware is fine for some reason Microsoft keep messing around.
- Cons: The card is too big occupied almost two slots. Technology is so advanced I really don't see the reason why so big. I hope they don't think big is better like the SUV manufacturers petrol drinker and space occupier.
Good card
- Pros: This card functions great. It does what I need it to do and it does it well. Crysis runs great on MAX settings and in HD on my 1080p 32" display. Probably around 25-35 FPS (haven't actually bench-marked it).
- Cons: This card NEEDS drivers. Did not run well until 9.7, but i waited to give it some time, ATI is known (in my opinion) to release cards then make them function right later. 9.8 will be out soon and i cant wait. For some reason if i overclock this baby to much i crash in games ALLOT guessing it needs more drivers as before 9.7 i couldn't overclock AT ALL without crashes randomly.
- Other Thoughts: This card is perfect. Haven't found a game yet i cant run on max settings (without OC). I would recommend this card to anyone. If your looking to not spend very much and have great performance then this is the way to go (40-70 FPS Dalaran in wow MAX w/ shadows) i am TRULY impressed.
2 Defective Cards
- Pros: Good price for what you should get, VaporX technology sounds interesting.
- Cons: Picked up my first card in June, and it worked fine for awhile. Soon green graphical artifacts appeared in games. Also a couple of times the screen would just go black and the fan on the card would spin up to full speed until I restarted my computer. This only happened while web browsing, never gaming, making me think it was an issue with the card not overheating or power.
I returned that card and got a replacement from Newegg. This second one worked fine for around a month but is starting to exhibit similar problems to the first, now it will just lock up while playing games and I've got the black screen of death a couple of times. I'm going to have to return this one also, hopefully my next card wont be defective.
- Other Thoughts: I see other reviewers on Newegg are experiencing defective cards, I would highly recommend staying away from this card until Sapphire is able to fix these issues. The 4850 isn't exactly a bleeding edge design, these issues shouldn't exist. This doesn't exactly give me a lot of confidence for purchasing future products from Sapphire.
