4 out of 5 eggsOverhrats like madd!!

Pros: low power
silent
HDMI

Cons: Idles at almost 60c and runs so hot I can't even pass widows experience index (WEI) without crashing (BSOD)

no fan connector

Other Thoughts: I placed an 80mm fan next to the heatsink and idle 44 and loads about 60c.

Now I need to buy a fan for it with an ugly molex adapter and run an extra molex write to the bottom of my case.

I should have saved my money and bought one with a fan.

4 out of 5 eggsCool but very HOT!!!!!!

Pros: Great price, Great performance for price.

Cons: Poor cooling runs very hot 67c. at idle. I do have it in a small HTPC case with not so good ventilation.(DELL) piece of junk but I like the size of the case.

Other Thoughts: I got bored and curious so I took a can of Dust off air spray and turned it upside down and lightly sprayed the heat sink face and my temps dropped to 19c. at idle I know that posting this will probably void my warranty but for 40 bucks I figured it was worth sharing. Kind of fun watching the temp drop.

4 out of 5 eggsCheap Direct X 11

Pros: cost $27 with fast-track rebate, total wait time, 9 days. handles everything throw at it in terms of stored HD video (MP4, WMV) as well as internet streaming HD content in either 720 or 1080P.

Cons: will get HOT on you if you tax it with a lot of HD video viewing, so either give the fanless heatsink room to breath or blow a fan across it. DDR2 not DDR3.

1 out of 5 eggsSapphire Warning!

Pros: Good card in hybrid crossfire with MSI-890GXM-G65 in my HTPC.

Cons: They think I am registering cards fraudulently!

Sapphire just contacted me demanding I supply copies of my invoices or packing slips for each of my seven Sapphire cards (2 6950s, 4 5770s and 1 5450) as well as pull each card from my systems and photograph them front and back. Oh and I have to do all this in a email that is smaller than 1 MB...yeah good luck shrinking 14 photos and seven invoices to under 1 MB and still be readable.

Other Thoughts: Other than being treated like a criminal (by Sapphire) after spending over $1200 on their products here at Newegg in the last year, the 5450 is a good card.

3 out of 5 eggsok htpc card

Pros: no fan. silent

Cons: jitter on dvd, silverlight (netflix) upscaled to 1080p. jitter does not occur when using 5700 series card or a hd 4550. no jitter playing back blu ray though. heatsink gets warm.

Other Thoughts: wei score 4.3, less than a 4550.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Graphics Card for HTPC builds

Pros: Cheap, low power consumption (typical 19.5W), low profile brackets included, work perfectly with windows 7. I could adjust 1080p full screen with ATI Catalyst Control Center.

Cons: Not for serious gamer, doesn’t work correctly with Linux. DDR2 offers low memory bandwidth (64GByte/s)

Other Thoughts: I bought this graphics card to upgrade my DELL Optiplex 380 box with 235W PSU. When I ran it the first time, the graphics card was pretty hot (60 C) when playing movie. I made an air duct from cardboard to direct the output air of the CPU heat sink to the heat sink of the graphics card. Now its idle temperature is 37 C and it reaches the maximum 45 C when I play Age of Mythology. You cannot expect a better graphics card with this price.

5 out of 5 eggsHTPC Perfection

Pros: HDMI works flawlessly. On first boot I connected HDMI to my 50" plasma and it worked without a hitch all the way through Win 7 install.

Cons: So far so good on heat transference, but may add a PCI fan to keep it cool as it does not have a built-in fan. Longevity may be an issue as many HTPCs run for extended periods of time.

Other Thoughts: For a low budget HTPC this card is excellent. Movies look crisp and the HDMI functionality is incredible (the 7 channel audio worked perfectly after driver install).

5 out of 5 eggsGood, basic card for a HTPC

Pros: Simple, low cost card.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: Comes with VGA, HDMI and DVI. However, you have to remove the VGA add on port if you want to use the Low Profile bracket.

So if you are planning on using the VGA, you better have a PC with room for the full height bracket.
