2 out of 5 eggsCard Broke RIGHT after warranty and outsourced to terrible customer service

Pros: The card experience only ~1 crash/week until a few months before failing before 2 year warranty.

Cons: Sapphire support left a message to this company when I called about a broken card and I never heard back. I emailed them and they gave me crude customer service.

Was in the process of moving and my computer had stopped working. Finished moving, got computer professionally diagnosed, and I had JUST missed the 2 year warranty.

"This card has pass its 2 year warranty we offer for the card, I am afraid we will not be able to help you with warranty request."

I paid top dollar for a new graphics card that broke right after the warranty expired. No offer to repair, discount, anything, not even proper English or empathy. Never buying another Saphire product again if they work with companies like this.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card

Pros: Best card I've owned so far, under full load runs at 54C and no hotter. Great overclocking card as well. Follows reference PCB design so you can put a waterblock on it with ease.

Cons: None so far. Wish the box came with two not just one :3

3 out of 5 eggsSolid card

Pros: Fast card, runs all games pretty well. Only the most demanding of games will even cause you to experience any regular slowdown.

Cons: Heat. This card runs hot, and even with proper airflow, cooling, cleaning, and so forth, the card has still died on me less than a year after I bought it.

Other Thoughts: Sapphire's RMA process conflicts with Newegg's. Sapphire requires service and exchanges under the 2 year warranty to be processed through the seller (Newegg), whereas Newegg's own policy is that such service must be done through the manufacturer (Sapphire). This is, at best, a pain to figure out.

4 out of 5 eggsFirst High end video card.

Pros: Video card does exactly what I paid for: Play games at extremely high resolution and does not have a problem doing it. Stays fairly cool and have yet to have any issues.

Cons: After adjusting the RAM on my system, overclocking my cpu, and adjusting the north bus on the motherboard was I finally able to see this card actually perform like it should. The card at times seems to try too hard to run games that should be easier for it to run at recommened settings.

Other Thoughts: It's really a shame how these cards go out of stock and then out of stock through newegg, especially for when I decide that I want to crossfire my system, I will then have to find a different video card of equal specs.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate to previous review

Pros: Still quiet, cool, and fast. I have this overclocked on second bios to 1150 core/gpu clock and 1450 memory clock, +20 board power, and 1125 vddc (further than how it came.) This done in sapphire trixx and is stable.

Runs at 80C at full load with these settings but stayed at 60C-70C with factory overclock. Runs at 35C Idle. I'm Running this in a Cooler Master HAF 912 with stock fans.

(In Battlefield 3, Ultra settings, 1080p) Minimum 45 fps. I run VSync on 60hz TV so it usually stays at 60 fps. Without VSync, it would usually sit at 70-80fps.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Please make sure your airflow is decent (case+space around case+fans+cable management.) I fear some previous reviewers that have written bad reviews for temps and it might be because of airflow. Inf my old case , which was for a hp pavilion p7-1254 (I believe) desktop, showed temps about 10-15 degress higher than the 912 idle and on load. Otherwise it might just be an oddball defect in your card.

For those with trouble overclocking, usually with changing voltage, change to the second BIOS.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great card, temperatures stay below 60-70 with my fan profile on MSI Afterburner being linearly increasing by 10% from 30% at 45 degrees C.
Haven't tried overclocking, but I don't have a need for it. Main games are League of Legends and Guild Wars 2. GW2 - Maxed settings runs at minimum 25fps - average 35-40.

Cons: The plastic cooler adds about a little less than half an inch to the length of the card. It took me 5 minutes of fiddling to get it into my case because of a immovable hard drive bay. (Sunbeam Transformer Case)

There is a small scratching sound that comes from the fans if they run at around 40%-50% fanspeed. I usually burst it up to 60-80% and the sound goes away as the scratching is more annoying than the sound of more air blowing around.

Other Thoughts: Other people mentioned that the card is a little bit curved and this is true. There is no supporting bracket to keep the card straight and this may cause issues with some cards (Rarely) and hasn't caused any problems for me either. I've only bought Sapphire ATI Video cards and I have yet to be disappointed with them! Upgrading from a 512MB version of the 4870, this was great!

2 out of 5 eggsDied on me, disappointing.

Pros: Great power, solid 3 monitor performance out of ONE card. low operating temps.

Cons: kaput just beyond one month. Guess there is a reason its been discontinued. Never overclocked, no 7970 flashes, no monkey busibness. Just wanted a nice card to power my rig. Fail.

Other Thoughts: the card is displaying artifacts in bios and will not boot into windows. It's just a black blank screen. I've tried 2 different drivers, I've tried the firmware switch on the card, tried 2 different power cables, and I did the same on another computer of mine. After doing research the card is defective.

Hoping Newegg can do something about this, but it cant be RMA'd since its past 30 days. BOTH Sapphire and Newegg websites seem to be passing back and forth regarding Sapphire's 2 year replacement policy. Why isnt there a clearer avenue to handle warranty issues? Especially when the warranties are as loudly advertised as they are?

2 out of 5 eggsBad fan, unacceptable warranty

Pros: Fast and mostly quiet.

Cons: The bearing on one of the fans went bad after a few weeks and makes a jarring oscillating noise.
Sapphire warranty requires customer shipping with an unreasonably high shipping/handling costs for a defective product.

Other Thoughts: Great product otherwise but will not buy again from Sapphire with current warranty policy.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card!

Pros: 7970 performance at 7950 price
Quiet, fan is inaudible up to about 65%
Lots of OC headroom
Runs cool
Dual BIOS switch
7970 PCB
Comes with quite a few accessories, and a case badge!
Requires 6+8 pin power (could be a con to some, but it should allow for higher stable oc's)
Looks awesome

Cons: None really, the stock fan profile was set a little low but that was an easy fix.

Other Thoughts: This was my first good video card and I couldn't be happier with it. It runs cool and quiet with awesome performance. I currently have it overclocked to 1100 on the core and 1400 on the memory with stock volts and it stays under 60c while gaming with the fan at 50%. I haven't tried going further but I'm sure I could get a lot more out of it, probably even more with a voltage tweak.

All in all it's a great card and would definitely recommend it!
