The ASUS N7600GS is a great upgrade for gamers with AGP based systems moving to Vista. The 256MB of GDDR2 memory easily handles the needs of the Aero interface, especially since it’s driven by the powerful NVIDIA GeForce 7600GS GPU. The VGA and DVI ports let you connect a CRT, a flat panel, or both. A DVI to VGA adapter is included. Either way your Windows experience will be seriously improved.

Gaming can really benefit from multiple screens. Run the game on the main screen and have the Gamer OSD and Game FaceMessenger utilities open on the other. Gamer OSD lets you chat and manage your cards settings without having to exit the game-overclock on the fly for maximum control of your game play experience. Or you can use Game FaceMessenger for IM style in-game chats.

Sometimes you want to watch movies, hook your HDTV to the DVI interface or use the adapter cable for component video connection. Or, if you’d rather watch the movie on your PC then the Splendid Video Enhancing Technology kicks in. Splendid enhances color depth and intensity delivering a cleaner, clearer picture.

4 out of 5 eggsOld_School

Pros: This card is pretty stable in comparison to the newer AGP cards left in the market. Since it is of a fanless design you can build a pretty nice and silent gaming system for when you want to go old school.

Cons: It's an AGP card and the interface is dead. You can still get some upgrades but is it really worth it? I have invested in several AGP cards since and all of them are more buggy than this particular card.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice if vendors that still make AGP cards could get their acts together and deliver products that don't make you want to pull your hair out anytime you're trying to squeeze a little more life out of an aging system. This particular card is now being recycled into a basic home server just to keep things interesting.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This card is fast and reliable. Plug and play. Installation was about 4 minutes(Including uninstalling the previous card) and VERY SIMPLE. Upgraded from 5200FX (about 8 years old) and could play DAoC with no video lag, etc on medium settings. Definately the best AGP 4x/8x card left available that I've found.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: It's an AGP card and it's $85. I thought upgrading my system to a PCI-e GPU would be too expensive, so I bought this. Outdated system scored a 3Dmark06 of 2500 with: ASUS K8N-E / Athlon 64 3000+ 2.0GHz/1GB Corsair DDR 400/ 7600GS. I thought I'd make a bigger impact but I guess not. Bottom line is, if you don't want to upgrade, buy this card. If you want to upgrade to PCI-e, the technology is cheaper. It would cost ~2 or 2.5x the price of this card for the mobo, gpu(8500GT or 8600GT), cpu (AMD x2) and memory (DDR2 800). After buying this a month ago, I'm going to upgrade anyways

4 out of 5 eggsGets Media Center running

Pros: This card has enough power for a P4 3.0 system to play back HDTV through Vista Media Center smoothly at 1080i. After trying various different cards, this one could do it without any lag or stutter.

Cons: If displaying to a HDTV at 1080i, playback is smooth, but any transitions between screens in Media Center does still have some slowdown and lag.

Other Thoughts: Without a fan, this card is silent and even with only one case fan I have not had any trouble using MC as my DVR with an older system. Great upgrade that will finally be able to handle HDTV under Vista.

4 out of 5 eggsRuns hot, they are not kidding

Pros: It plays all my old games without stutter at high fps. Really sped up my net browsing. I was using a ti4200 before so this is a big step up.

Cons: Runs hot, but stable, don't know what the long term life will be, but agp is dead and it will stretch out this computer til I upgrade the mobo and cpu. Idle at 136F. Ordered a pci fan, and some arctic silver. It really needs a fan, but I doubt I will have this system more than 3 years anyhow. Did not like Firefox 3.0, some plug ins would cause the computer to hang, I think it was a card interaction since it did not do it with old card. Reinstalled Firefox without my old plugins, stable now.

Other Thoughts: I had all sorts of problems at first, make sure you totally remove all the old drivers, and video codecs. Use a driver removal tool. Or your colors in any saved media will not work during playback. Did a complete new install using nvidia drivers from the nvidia website. Did a complete shutdown, then apply new video codec pack, shutdown, restart. Only use one video codec bundle, more than one bundle = conflict. Everything stable now. Would buy again.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked seamlessly with Linux (Fedora Core 8), DVI input

Cons: Runs REALLY REALLY hot!

Other Thoughts: I'm always concerned when I have to replace parts in my machine now that I run Linux...I've heard some horror stories, but this truly was plug & play with Linux. Also, buy a PCI slot fan and place it right below this card...it runs incredibly hot....Overall, I would highly recommend this video card.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat running under Linux

Pros: I needed a serious video upgrade to fully use my new ASUS VW222u 22" LCD monitor (also from NewEgg) on Fedora Core 6, 2.6.22.14-72.fc6 Linux kernel. The tremendous driver support from NVIDIA ( http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us ) made the driver installation a snap. Now running at a crystal-clear 1680x1050. If you need to do color correction under Linux, check out xcalib at ( http://freshmeat.net/projects/xcalib/ ).

Cons: "Silent" means no fan. Be sure you've got good case cooling otherwise. I note one complaint about ASUS's driver support; check out the NVIDIA web site as this *is* an NVIDIA chipset.

Other Thoughts: Just about to order another one for my other Linux box...

5 out of 5 eggslast upgrade for old computer

Pros: Good price, nice upgrade from 6600 GT. Fanless means silence! YAY! I am very happy with this card. Runs multiple instances of my MMORPGs smoothly, and they look better than they did, too.

Cons: Well... yes it DOES get hot, but isn't a heatsink supposed to get hot? Perhaps I am missing something here.

Other Thoughts: This card was for my second system which I use for 2- or 3-boxing. It has been running 24/7 for over 2 weeks so far, no issues. Was not expecting such a nice upgrade, really just wanted a quieter system. That computer had issues with overheating, but it turned out I was sometimes accidentally blocking the case perforations, which would cause the whole thing to lock up. Since I figured that out, I have not had a single issue (other than confirming it was definitely a case airflow issue by intentionally blocking the perforations, yes I feel dumb now ><). Based on everyone's reviews, I was afraid this card would cause the system to overheat again, but as long as I keep the holes clear, it does just fine. I have 3 case fans, 2 blowing in (side and top) and one blowing out the back.

This computer now runs multiple instances of my two MMORPGs (EQ1 and EQ2) with ease. No bells and whistles on the graphics, but it looks good and handles well. No idea on newer games, though.

5 out of 5 eggsMore that I expected

Pros: Easy to install, No Fan, Bright sharp colors (PC with Apple monitor)

Cons: You had better have a good air flow, this thing can keep you warm in the winter and sweating in the summer.

Other Thoughts: Sotfware is ok, however I did need to go back and uninstall the chat software.

4 out of 5 eggsTop of the AGP world

Pros: Great performance brought to an aging computer, handles compiz fusion on 2 17'' monitors like a champ. Small (does not block air flow).

Cons: Silent means no fan, so under long term stress, this card will heat up like the sun. Make sure you have some pci slot cooler or something blowing the hot air off of the heatsink.

Other Thoughts: Drivers on the included CD were old, and the drivers on ASUS's website were almost 3 revisions behind those! Find driver from third party site.(those are windows drivers), new glx drivers are very stable and mature (for the linux crowd)

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: fits my computer very well and its fast and easy to install driver.

Cons: The first game i played with it, all the people and backrounds were missing parts or had parts where there shouldent of been. I called newegg and they said it was just shot. They retured it with no problems what so ever. They even paid for the shipping back. It also over heats like crazy if you have anything less than a great cooling system in your computer and i mean a GREAT COOLING SYSTEM!!!! Just make sure you have plenty of fans near or blowing on it and i think you should be fine.

Other Thoughts: I'm just going to suck it up and get a new mobo that takes pci express instead of trying to keep this computer alive.
