The ASUS N7600GS is a great upgrade for gamers with AGP based systems moving to Vista. The 256MB of GDDR2 memory easily handles the needs of the Aero interface, especially since it’s driven by the powerful NVIDIA GeForce 7600GS GPU. The VGA and DVI ports let you connect a CRT, a flat panel, or both. A DVI to VGA adapter is included. Either way your Windows experience will be seriously improved.
Gaming can really benefit from multiple screens. Run the game on the main screen and have the Gamer OSD and Game FaceMessenger utilities open on the other. Gamer OSD lets you chat and manage your cards settings without having to exit the game-overclock on the fly for maximum control of your game play experience. Or you can use Game FaceMessenger for IM style in-game chats.
Sometimes you want to watch movies, hook your HDTV to the DVI interface or use the adapter cable for component video connection. Or, if you’d rather watch the movie on your PC then the Splendid Video Enhancing Technology kicks in. Splendid enhances color depth and intensity delivering a cleaner, clearer picture.

A great final upgrade for AGP systems
- Pros: Excellent performace-value ratio. A great improvement over my ATI Radeon 9600. Handle's Vista's Aero like it's nothing, I haven't tried Linux's Beryl/Compiz systems yet, but I'd imagine it can handle those with no sweat as well. Should be able to run just about any modern game (as of summer'07), providing the rest of the system is up to snuff. Runs games a few years old fantastically.
- Cons: Seems a bit hot. I've been running it with a pci slot fan directly below it, and it hasn't overheated or anything, but even after the system's been shut off for a minute the heatsink is still almost burning to the touch (note: I know this by coincedence, not because I was trying to see how hot it was). I wouldn't advise this card for a small form factor or other low ventelation case.
- Other Thoughts: The box it comes in is much bigger than I expected. It's actually larger than the box for my ATX motherboard. I don't know why. Comes with video out -> component video and DVI -> VGA adapters. Also came with a quick start guide, a user manual on a cd, a disk of Windows Vista drivers, a disk of Windows2k/XP/64bit drivers along with ASUS utilities, and a full version of 3DMark06.
Solid Buy
- Pros: Good card, decent 3DMark06 scores. Runs the mmorpg that I play very well. My computer now has no real audible noise in the case when at idle. Does what I need for the money.
- Cons: Can run hot. Idle's at 60C-68C, runs games at 75C-85C(minimal chassis cooling) & 65C-70C(with full chassis cooling on), which is noisy(even with 120MM fans)and defeats the point of a silent card.
- Other Thoughts: Make sure you have decent case fans with this card. Otherwise it will run very hot all the time. With chassis cooling off on my machine, this card will idle at 72C.

- Pros: This card is fast and reliable. Plug and play. Installation was about 4 minutes(Including uninstalling the previous card) and VERY SIMPLE. Upgraded from 5200FX (about 8 years old) and could play DAoC with no video lag, etc on medium settings. Definately the best AGP 4x/8x card left available that I've found.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: It's an AGP card and it's $85. I thought upgrading my system to a PCI-e GPU would be too expensive, so I bought this. Outdated system scored a 3Dmark06 of 2500 with: ASUS K8N-E / Athlon 64 3000+ 2.0GHz/1GB Corsair DDR 400/ 7600GS. I thought I'd make a bigger impact but I guess not. Bottom line is, if you don't want to upgrade, buy this card. If you want to upgrade to PCI-e, the technology is cheaper. It would cost ~2 or 2.5x the price of this card for the mobo, gpu(8500GT or 8600GT), cpu (AMD x2) and memory (DDR2 800). After buying this a month ago, I'm going to upgrade anyways
Gets Media Center running
- Pros: This card has enough power for a P4 3.0 system to play back HDTV through Vista Media Center smoothly at 1080i. After trying various different cards, this one could do it without any lag or stutter.
- Cons: If displaying to a HDTV at 1080i, playback is smooth, but any transitions between screens in Media Center does still have some slowdown and lag.
- Other Thoughts: Without a fan, this card is silent and even with only one case fan I have not had any trouble using MC as my DVR with an older system. Great upgrade that will finally be able to handle HDTV under Vista.
Runs hot, they are not kidding
- Pros: It plays all my old games without stutter at high fps. Really sped up my net browsing. I was using a ti4200 before so this is a big step up.
- Cons: Runs hot, but stable, don't know what the long term life will be, but agp is dead and it will stretch out this computer til I upgrade the mobo and cpu. Idle at 136F. Ordered a pci fan, and some arctic silver. It really needs a fan, but I doubt I will have this system more than 3 years anyhow. Did not like Firefox 3.0, some plug ins would cause the computer to hang, I think it was a card interaction since it did not do it with old card. Reinstalled Firefox without my old plugins, stable now.
- Other Thoughts: I had all sorts of problems at first, make sure you totally remove all the old drivers, and video codecs. Use a driver removal tool. Or your colors in any saved media will not work during playback. Did a complete new install using nvidia drivers from the nvidia website. Did a complete shutdown, then apply new video codec pack, shutdown, restart. Only use one video codec bundle, more than one bundle = conflict. Everything stable now. Would buy again.
