nice card, hard to beat for the price
- Pros: great price
i placed this in my Dell E521 then got the the 4 pin adapter to run to the 6 pin power supply connection on the card, that allowed me to run it without upgrading my stock power supply.
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: the fan is pressed flush against the lower heat dispenser on the Dell motherboard. It's not an issue and you don't need to play with anything, its just a tight fit.
Good card but no Linux support
- Pros: Great card, runs anything and everything that I've thrown at it.
- Cons: My only beef with this card and it's kind of a deal breaker for me is that it won't work natively with newest ubuntu (8.10) and or linux distro with compiz...one of the major features that I hoping to use with this card. AHHHH. Good card, NVIDIA just hasn't gotten on the ball with linux drivers. The cards been out for a year and no support, come on? For those that are interested in Linux/compiz, here are supported nvidia cards, I think I'm pawning this card off to a non linux brother and upgrading to the 9800 model:
Linux 32-bit http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_177.80.html Linux 64-bit http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_amd64_177.80.html
- Other Thoughts: I realize that I didn't do my research on this card and Linux but I would've thought that Nvidia would be on the ball with this.
Good card
- Pros: Good card, not the fastest, but runs Crysis at 1440x900 with (recommended) medium settings very well, so well in fact I could probably push some settings up to high. Fan is quiet, no worse than any of the other fans I have in the case (Antec 120mm Tri-Cool fans on low) and keeps the GPU pretty cool. Runs fine in a PCIe x16 1.0a slot, although now that I've upgraded my mobo it's in a proper PCIe x16 2.0 slot.
- Cons: Seemed to have trouble with an earlier version of the nvidia driver with the new PhysX engine (BSOD), but the latest version seems to have cleared that up.
- Other Thoughts: I have an XFX 8800GT as well which handily beats this card, but was also more expensive and power hungry. If you are a hardcore gamer, spend the extra money on an 8800GT or better, but this is still a good card.
I actually ran this card for a couple of months with an Antec TruePower 380 and now have it on an Antec NeoPower 550.
