Fast, works well - when cool enough
- Pros: Very fast - excellent performance for the price; easy to install, and software easy to work with. Should easily meet my performance needs for years to come.
- Cons: Heat-related issues cropped up in just under 3 months of use. Automatic fan control isn't sufficient to keep the card cool enough; have to manually bump up the fan speed to around 40% for consistent cooling, and it's slowly degraded from there. Lots of forum posts from other users seeing similar issues, leading to conjecture about either a driver-related issue (drivers not adjusting fan speed properly), as well as some users with fans that are failing WAY prematurely
Automatic fan control puts temperature in mid 70's; (well beneath the "danger" area, and apparently a relatively normal range for the card) - manual fan control of around 40% puts the card into 40's and lower 50's.
- Other Thoughts: I'm contacting ASUS for an RMA next week; manual fan control is working, but since the card continues to have issues even at the lower temperatures, I'm not taking any chances.
I've not overclocked this card (or my system) - the card is plenty fast to where I feel there's no point for the games I'm playing (L4D, TF2, Fallout 3).
Very nice...
- Pros: Easy to install in Vista 64 bit OS, I like the dual slot cooling, although my case is big (Silverstone F01B)...
Haven't taken it to the races yet but am sure it will perform as advertised.
- Cons: where'd they go?? None on Newegg and none on Asus' website...was going to buy one more for crossfire.
- Other Thoughts: Download current drivers from AMD/ATI's website....make life easier!
AMAZING CARD!!!
- Pros: very fast card, runs very cool(despite what people think of these oem coolers, they are very good cooler.) mine idle at 42C @ 30% fan speed and 55C during gaming.
- Cons: bios level fan control is weak!
- Other Thoughts: love this card.. cant wait to get another, but newegg seems to not carry them as of late.
dont understand why people want these cards with the garbage aftermarket coolers on them, imo they arent half as good as the oem... they are garbage!
