5 out of 5 eggsGreat as a Dedicated HTPC or Desktop Card

Pros: Don't get the people who buy a cheap card not intended for game play and complain when it doesn't measure up to other cards for gaming - whatever.

This a great card for what it is intended - a home theater. Quiet. Stable. I had no problems installing it, but I had the updated drivers already on-had prior to install.

Not a single glitch so far, quiet, cool, no stutters, no driver problems.

There are 2 versions of this card floating around in terms of the heat sink, the one pictured is not the one I have. I have the 1/2-height unanondized aluminum heat sink that still keeps it cool.

Cons: Absolutely none

4 out of 5 eggsglitchy at first, drivers fixed it

Pros: Handles blu-ray playback flawlessly. I can play some modest games on it(virtual tennis 3 w/ all the settings on high as my latest). Fanless design=quiet operation.

Cons: For the first 3-4 months I had audio issues. The card is suppose to pass audio through the HDMI to my TV. Well, when I'd turn the TV back on, about 50% of the time, the card wouldn't "see" that the TV was actually ON, so no audio. Sometimes I could just open a few folders and it'd recognize the TV and the audio would click on. Other times, I couldn't get it to work for nothing and had to restart. Installed latest drivers today from ATI and all seems to be OK....I hope.

Other Thoughts: I put a problem ticket in with ATI about the audio problem and never got a reply. I don't know if it's because they've heard this problem from other peeps(apparently it's a problem across all of their HD 4xxx cards), or because they just have bad service. Either way, the new drivers fixed the problem, so no biggie. I'd buy it again at this price. Excellent HTPC card.

3 out of 5 eggsNot bad for Price

Pros: Works on my HTPC for most things so far. Haven't done anything to really test the cards alleged capabilities yet beyond watching Hulu.com and cableTV.

Cons: Seems to have problems with OpenGL. I tried to get ZeeVee.com software to work, but it blows up trying to access the OpenGL on this card. According to ZeeVee they have not been able to reproduce this error on the 4350 cards they have in their lab. Not being able to utilize this card on ZeeVee.com is a HUGH negative in my mind, since this card is aimed at HTPCs.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: Can't even play Youtube HD videos

Other Thoughts: I purchased this under the impression that, when coupled with a 3ghz P4 processor and 2gb of RAM, I would be able to get smooth HD playback. Ha! It chokes like nothing else on a 720p mp4 file, and Youtube HD? Forget it.

The MSI 7300 that this thing replaced had better playback than this! Oh well, back to the drawing board...

1 out of 5 eggsdidn't work

Pros: easy physical installation

Cons: didn't work. at all.

Other Thoughts: After installing the card, my computer wouldn't boot up. BIOS wouldn't even come up - I'd simply press the power button, the fans would start running like crazy, and nothing else would happen. Black screen. Never even get the "beep" that the motherboard makes when BIOS kicks in. This card is going back, and unless someone else wants to pay for shipping, I'm not getting another one.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Please double check to make sure that the card is fully seated on the pcie slot. Please contact our Technical Support Department at http://vip.asus.com/eservice/techserv.aspx and reference case number "NE333623" so that we may get more details about your system configuration and assist you in resolving these issues you are experiencing.

Best Regards,

ASUS Support Team

4 out of 5 eggsTake back my review from Feb 24

Pros: I had given 1 egg for this card, but I didn't realize at the time that my power supply was starting to die, and it caused the card to act weird. This card is a great deal for just a few bucks more than the ASUS HD3450. I really like the huge heatsink.

Cons: Not low-profile.

Other Thoughts: Sorry ASUS and Newegg for my RMA mistakes.

1 out of 5 eggsSorry Newegg, bad luck

Pros: Great price. Decent performance numbers. Good reviews of this chipset. Big heatsink. HDMI out.

Cons: The card wouldn't work for me. Full-res came up for about a second then the screen turned off. This was after I tried an Asus HD3450 card which had different problems (crashing my system) and had to go back.

Other Thoughts: I got my RMA, marked "replace" on it, and it got changed to "refund" with no explanation. Don't know if I did something wrong. I'm giving up on parts by mail for a while.

4 out of 5 eggsWith a little tlc a great card

Pros: HDMI runs cool and a great video card. I now have a free pci slot since I don't need my Sound Blast card anymore thanks to hdmi. It fits inside an apevia qpack2.

Cons: The hdmi audio overrides the onboard or aftermarket audio cards but does not auto configure itself. You have to change your sound source if you decide to use the hdmi. The hdmi audio is not labeled as such.

Other Thoughts: After running on the dvi and my sound blast card I plugged in the hdmi and had no sound with the sound blast still hooked up. The monitor is labeled audio port is vga/dvi/hdmi. So I spend a few hours searching through manuals for both my monitor and the video card to find out what I need to do in order to get the sound to work. There was no written information for hdmi pc to hdmi tv/monitor. I searched the sound drivers and try all 3 of my sources to find the hdmi audio.

1 out of 5 eggsPAINFULL

Pros: HDMI connncetion without adapter

Cons: Painful to install. Once you install the card if you are on the HDMI port your screen will loose signal until you can set up the HDMI in the catalyst control center. Which means you have to reconfigure your monitor to dvi to set up the hdmi. Once I got that figured out there was no sound comming in the HDMI. Still working that. Have a trouble ticket in with asus.

Other Thoughts: I generally only buy asus motherboards. This is my first experience with a video card. Will probably be my last.
I gave one star on general principles. Im lazy and anything that makes me work for it gets a 1 star. lol.
