5 out of 5 eggsSolid high end video card

This review is from: ASUS GeForce GTX 980 STRIX-GTX980-DC2OC-4GD5 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: - It is a GTX 980
- Stock cooling is good

Cons: - Its huge so make sure it will fit in your case
- Only one DVI port

Other Thoughts: - Would love a second DVI port. Older monitors don't always have display port.

5 out of 5 eggsFrustrating Installation

This review is from: ASUS GeForce GTX 980 STRIX-GTX980-DC2OC-4GD5 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: Just what you'd expect.

Cons: There was no warning of incompatibility with older, possibly exclusively Z68, motherboards,

Other Thoughts: Only after difficulty getting the system to POST & display something, did I turn to the interwebitubes. People have complained about this on a number of forums, all without resolution as far as I could find.

Thought a bit, decided to clear the CMOS, and then used Display Driver Uninstaller to *really* wipe the old card's drivers. Success.

Seems the card + motherboard does not like the EFI ROM It also doesn't like to coexist with an MSI 560 TI - 448, and the motherboard, a P8Z68-V LX, insists the second full width PCIE slot run at x2, instead of x4, or the system is unable to load an operating system (Win 7). May try Win 10, with asymmetric graphics cards installed.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent card for content creation

This review is from: ASUS GeForce GTX 980 STRIX-GTX980-DC2OC-4GD5 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: - Quiet
- powerful

Cons: - Very big! Barely fit inside my Rosewill Challenger case. I bought it OPEN BOX and I can cleary assume that someone returned it because of that. Check your case dimensions before buying

Other Thoughts: I am a videographer and I use this card to acelerate Adobe Premiere, Speedgrade and Resolve. No gaming on this workstation. Until then I used a GTX 660 Ti 2gb and it was enough for HD. But now with 4K footage, It was painfull. Especially speedgrade, the interface was lagguy and crashes was frequents with a few primaries and secondaries. Now, it is a joy to use. As smooth as HD.

3 out of 5 eggsASUS GeForce GTX 980 STRIX-GTX980-DC2OC-4GD5 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

This review is from: ASUS GeForce GTX 980 STRIX-GTX980-DC2OC-4GD5 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: When it works, it is glorious. The Division on Ultra in 1080p reaches 60 fps with ease and is something to behold, and I have a non-performance monitor as well. I could only imagine what this card will be capable of on a 4k monitor. I have a few other games, but I have yet to get to them because I can not pull away from the way this card displays the clouds, the details, the shadows, the simulated combat etc, and the game play and its outstanding details! Heat is not a problem, the fans kick on when needed, but a well ventilated case (Corsair Graphite series) in a cool room helps tremendously with heat dissipation.

Cons: it buzzes, loudly. I turned off all my case fans and and even my CPU cooler fans, and I could hear this buzzing coming from the card itself, it fluctuates with the images being displayed on the screen. For example it's a low buzz when the game is in menu mode, but as soon as I enter into game play the card starts buzzing loud enough to hear over the case fans. I've tried multiple settings, even turning the fans up to 50% manually on the card through it's menu in an attempt to cool the card in an effort to prevent the loud buzzing. I've tried lowering the detail setting in game play, but lets face it, I didn't spend close to six hundred dollars on a card to run the settings in game on low so it doesn't buzz as much!!

The card has never been over clocked, or abused. There really is no need, I only game in 1080p at a inconsistent peak of 60 fps. So I don't know what the issue could be. I just know for certain I did not cause it.

Other Thoughts: MSI 990FXA-GD80 -mainboard with current updated bios as of March of 2016
AMD FX-8370 8 CORE processor with Noctua NH-D15 6 heatpipe with Dual NF-A15 140mm fans
Gskill 1333 memory -16 gigs
OCZ 240g SSD
Corsair CX750 power supply
Corsair Graphite series case - (meshed side, not windowed better airflow)

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Joshua,

Hello, thank you for taking your time in writing this review. We certainly value your feedback. It is unfortunate to hear that your card is making a "buzzing" noise that is bugging you. Do you still hear the noise when the fan is completely turned off? I think this what you are experiencing is coil whine. Unfortunately, cases of coil whine are common regardless of the company you purchased from. For more information visit: http://www.pcper.com/news/Graphics-Cards/GeForce-GTX-970-Coil-Whine-Concerns. Although this is the GTX970, it is prevalent in the 980 as well. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you believe your card is defective, you can submit an RMA at http://www.asus.com/us/support. ASUS offers 3 year warranty on our video cards. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at cl-justin@asus.com and I will help you to the best of my abilities. I'm here to assist our customers with our products and dedicated in bringing a resolution to all issues that they may come across. Your case for reference is N160391950

Thanks for choosing ASUS

5 out of 5 eggsBeast of a card

This review is from: ASUS GeForce GTX 980 STRIX-GTX980-DC2OC-4GD5 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: Silent and deadly. Eats games for breakfast, lunch and dinner

Cons: Doesn't clean my bathroom

Other Thoughts: Some people here complain about coil whine but I have not had any problems so far. Maybe when your loading up a game and your FPS is over 9000 then you might have some but this is a dead silent monster.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat card except for the Displayport issues

This review is from: ASUS GeForce GTX 980 STRIX-GTX980-DC2OC-4GD5 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: 3dMark was in the 91% with minor OC
Ran cool
Great feature for Fan control

Cons: Issue with Displayport connectivity

Other Thoughts: I can't ding Asus, since its an issue with many of the Nvidia cards, but there is a Displayport bug. I moved from a 3 monitor setup (DVI, DVI, DP via DVI adapter) to the GTX 980. I purchased a second DP to DVI adapter to be ready for the new card, but I could not get a DP display to work. The monitors all work via DVI, and HDMI, but the DP-DVI adapter were all not detected by card. An internet search showed that this problem is pretty common. I am going to try two different adapters that people have claimed work, but if that doesn't fix it, its RMA time. I have connected a secondary monitor via HDMI in the mean time.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear James,

Thank you for taking your time in writing this review. We certainly value your feedback. It is unfortunate that you are having difficulty displaying all the inputs your monitor. Please try a different adapter and see if that fixes your issue. If the problem still persists, you can submit an RMA at http://www.asus.com/us/support. 4 out of 5 eggsSuper fast product, overclocks extremely well

This review is from: ASUS GeForce GTX 980 STRIX-GTX980-DC2OC-4GD5 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: - Quiet, literally the fans don't turn on ever unless under heavy load
- Lots of room for overclocking
- Very good build quality

Cons: - Suffers from coil whine under high load conditions like 3dmark benchmarks. This seems to be common trend on all maxwell based GPUs can be very annoying at times.

Other Thoughts: ASUS definitely makes the best cards if you are looking for something quiet but beware of the coil whine on high load.
