Runs cool and quiet
- Pros: Quiet.
Cool running PCI express
- Cons: Takes up two slots.
- Other Thoughts: I replaced my 7600GT card with silent Pipe 2 for this card with silent pipe 3. This is excellent. It's running cool at only 107 degrees. My 7600GT card was much hotter. Silent pipe allows the card to run much cooler than the fanless cards with just a heatsink. I have one of those with a 7600GS in a small shuttle pc case and the GPU is around 170 degrees.
This is worth the money for the speed and the quiet. It also comes with a Utility so you can overclock the card if you want. Mine is set for 675mhz for the core and 1100mhz for the memory(2200Mhz equivalent)
Perfect for HTPC
- Pros: - Quiet
- Runs relatively cool - Features NVIDIA's second generation Pure Video HD engine so for HD decoding it uses significantly less CPU. - Noticeable quality improvement when watching Live TV in Vista Media Center over my 7600GT
- Cons: - Takes two PCI slots, not a big deal since most quiet aftermarket fans take up two slots as well.
- No HDMI out - The Vista drivers are still in beta form and lack "standard" features.
- Other Thoughts: It is a tight fit in my Antec Fusion.

Dead Silent
- Pros: This is the most compact passive cooled 8600GTS video card out there. Does not require a extra PCI-E power connection which in my situation, would interfere with the CD burners in my Silverstone desktop case. Provided covers on the DVI, S-video and SLI connectors are a nice touch.
I needed a dual-link DVI video card to drive a 30" LCD and since I don't play games, the GPU will rarely be running in 3D mode. Hence, my GPU temps are always 72C or below and I only have one 80mm exhaust fan on my case. My E6700 is water cooled so no additional heat is filling the case from the CPU.
- Cons: None - at least none for my situation. I don't have any buzzing problems as others have indicated.
- Other Thoughts: This card is heavy and takes up two slots. But that is what you should expect when you need a lot of mass in a heat sink to pull heat away without a fan. If you are not a gamer or don't expect to run the GPU in 3D very often, this card gives you silence and reasonable cooling to not worry about overheating issues.
Buzzing Noise
- Pros: Video was good for the price.
- Cons: Its very wide and takes up a lot of space. Make sure your case can handle it.
- Other Thoughts: Some boards have a defect from the manufacture that cause some of the coil chokes to buzz. I RMA'd the first board for a replacement. The second board also buzzes. It sound like your sticking a pieces of plastic in fan. I have RMA'd that board and have decided to get an MSI 8800 GTS for about $40 more. The service from NewEgg has been great. The service from Gigabyte has been slow and the only thing they have asked is if I am sure its the video card. I even told them about their own recall on the boards.
- Pros: This videocard was the best passively cooled card that was new enough to support DirectX10 (future flexibility). I don't do games, but I needed the high reolution for photo editing. I wanted low noise and the video cards are always talked about being the noisiest fans. This is silent. It runs fine.
- Cons: The game that came with the card crashed the system after the intro. I removed it. Didn't do anything to get me to be a gamer.
- Other Thoughts: I built this computer to be fast and good at photo editing, which is my most difficult application. (I do not do games). I also wanted a quiet and reliable machine, so I chose a conservative thermal design, and I will not overclock. I ended up with a Cooler Master Cosmos case, a OCZ 700W power supply, a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 motherboard, the Intel E6850 3GHz processor, 4 GB of Crucial Ballistic memory, a Gigabyte 8600 GTS passively cooled video card, 3-500MB Western Digital SATA hard drives, a Samsung DVD burner, Windows Vista Ultimate, and topped it off with a Samsung 305T 30 inch LCD monitor. Its really a wonderful machine. It went together fine and ran first try.
Newegg was great. I spent a couple of weeks getting comfortable with the components I purchased, and the Newegg site was where I did most of the research. The selection was great and the navigation superb. The reviews were helpful. Once I had my list, the purchase was easy, fast, and lowest cost. Newegg is all
