Serious gamers require serious gear. That is why Gigabyte has developed the Super Overclock Series. All of the GPUs in these graphics cards have been cherry-picked for top performance, efficiency and reliability. Innovative GPU Gauntlet Sorting selection process ensures that only the highest-performing GPU processors are used for these graphics cards. Coupled with Gigabyte’s Ultra Durable VGA boards, users can rest assured that the Super Overclock Series graphic cards will not let them down as they enter the digital battleground.

Gigabyte extends their Super Overclock Series with the GV-N480SO-15I, which is based on the ultimate NVDIA GeForce GTX 480 GPU and has a highly overclocked GPU core speed of 820MHz (standard 700MHz). To satisfy hardcore gamers and extreme overclockers, the GV-N480SO-15I is especially designed with Gigabyte Extreme Dual BIOS technology, WINDFORCE 3X Cooling, 14 phase PWM design, OC Guru graphic card smart tuner and voltage read point.

  • newegg GIGABYTE GPU Gauntlet Sorting GIGABYTE’s very own GPU Gauntlet Sorting process is the key to the best GPUs for Super Overclock Series. A GPU must pass a sequence of tests to be selected. This unique process offers three major advantages. First, full-throttle performance tuning improves overclocking ability by at least 10% to 30%. Second, optimized thermal efficiency lowers extra temperatures by 5% to 10%. Fan speed is guaranteed at standard rpm in high-rated 3D and physics-accelerated games to reduce noise for an absolutely quiet environment. Lastly, expert power switching lowers power switching loss by 10% to 30%. With GPU Gauntlet Sorting, GIGABYTE SOC graphics card guarantees higher overclocking ability.
  • newegg GIGABYTE Extreme Dual BIOS Technology As opposed to the traditional concept of dual BIOS chips where one is a main BIOS and the other one is a backup BIOS, GIGABYTE Extreme Dual BIOS technology contains two different BIOS chips designed for separate purposes. GIGABYTE Extreme Dual BIOS technology supports one-touch dual BIOS switching button to shift between two BIOSes, SOC (Super Overclock Series) Default BIOS and LN2 BIOS. SOC Default BIOS allows gamers to build their dream machines to conquer digital battles on the web. LN2 BIOS is especially designed for overclockers to avoid potential cold bug issues at extremely low temperatures. This feature equips selective GIGABYTE Super Overclock Series for extreme overclock ability to break world records at any competitions.
  • newegg WINDFORCE 3X: Anti-turbulence Cooling The GV-N480SO-15I is equipped with WINDFORCE 3X cooling solution which features 3 ultra quiet PWM fans. The special 3D-inclined triple-fan design effectively minimizes the flow of turbulence between three fans. With a unique vapor chamber, WINDFORCE 3X is able to transfer heat from the hot spot to the cool spot as thermal energy becomes evaporated to the surrounding air. By capillary action, the condensed liquid droplets circulate back to the base of chamber. The cycles of evaporation and condensation enhance heat dissipation for greater cooling efficiency. Moreover, WINDFORCE 3X is equipped with three copper heat pipes to strengthen the speed of heat dissipation.
  • newegg Pure Power Architecture As opposed to 6+2 power phases on standard GTX 480 graphics card, the GV-N480SO-15I boasts a 14 phase PWM design includes 12 for GPU and 2 for memory for incredibly pure power. Not only does GV-N480SO-15I have more power phases than reference card, the 12 power phase status LED indicators indicate graphics card’s current power phase, helping users monitor power consumption. This feature ensures a more stable system and better overclocking capability.
  • newegg Ultra Durable VGA+ Thanks to Ultra Durable VGA+ that features 5+1 quality components, the Super Overclock Series supports top performance in graphics benchmarking. GIGABYTE Ultra Durable VGA+’s 5 units of NEC proadlizer (also known as film capacitor) on the GV-N480SO-15I graphics cards is able to provide purer power supply compared to traditional power design (zero proadlizers).
  • newegg OC Guru – Graphic Card Smart Tuner Gigabyte’s graphics card tweaking utility OC Guru puts together the best combination of software/hardware overclocking, with 3 profiles to cater to users’ different needs - OC (for overclocking mode), Gaming (for gaming mode), and Green (for power saving mode). Gigabyte’s distinctive adjustable software offers gamers to adjust tuners for memory, voltage, and fan speed.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Card...still 5 months later

Pros: Lots of Fans and good design. Good price for the performance level.

Cons: It covers up one of my many SATA ports...no biggie though since there are so many.

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte makes quality stuff
Using on GA-P67A-UD3-B3/2600K with 2133 Ripjaws, Corsair 650 PS in a Cooler Master Elite 430 with the Cooler Master V6GT and another 120mm case fan.

5 out of 5 eggsMUST BUY

Pros: Runs Farmville, Warcraft 2 and Blade Runner (yes, they made a game, but Harrison Ford wasn't in it) on MAX settings, without a hiccup. I was going to quad SLI these bad boys, but figured that one meets my gaming needs.

The colors are nice too. Looks great as a belt buckle.

And just a heads up, do not get this card if you are going to try and fit it into a Compaq computer you purchased from Best Buy. Apparently, you need room for a graphic card these days.

Cons: Noticed some stuttering while playing Farmville on Facebook with max settings. I turned shadow effects off and anti assailing down and that fixed the problem.

While the colors are a pro, they are also a con -- they insist upon themselves.

Other Thoughts: Current setup:

Pentium @ 266 mHz
32MB of RAM
20 GB Hardrive
Unknown Mobo
Compaq computer case

1 out of 5 eggs2 RMA's later, looking at a 3rd...

Pros: When it's working, it's simply a beast.

Cons: Oh boy, where to begin? Well, I guess we can begin with my original review stating how I was having artifacts at stock speeds. Well, the second card came with the same problem...2 RMA's in two weeks...wow.

Seems like I got lucky on the third card, seeing as how this one doesn't artifact. Everything was going great with it until yesterday when ONE OF THE FANS FELL OFF!!!!!!!!!! I thought simply putting it back on would fix the problem, but it keeps falling off. Now my idle temps are in the 60's minimum - oh joy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Other Thoughts: Are you kidding me GIGABYTE??!!!!!!!!! You guys are a freaking joke right now. If it weren't for the lack of quality on their side, I'd say go for this card - but trust me, you don't want to end up in the same spot I'm in, just go for a 580 (one that's not from GIGABYTE) or something else.

I'm so upset about this right now. They better get their act together, because now I'm RMA'ing through them, and they better get this right.

5 out of 5 eggsThis card is a beast.

Pros: This card has eaten any game I have thrown at it on max settings. Gaming at 1920 x 1080p. It is only 5% behind a standard 580 being this is already overclocked from factory. Three fans keep the temps down and is a great looking card. I could not ask for a better card for a single card gaming machine. I could not imagine what 2 or more in sli would do. 5 stars for shipping. 5 stars for quality, performance, install, and everything really.

Cons: Absolutely none

Other Thoughts: Runs all Bad Companies, Mafia's , World of warcrafts, crysis's, haf life etc on max video settings with no trouble (60fps average). All stock settings on the card which is already overclocked and designed to run at comfortably. Runs about 80-85C at full load after hours of play in a haf 932 case. Plenty of overclocking headroom being its rated to 105C max.

5 out of 5 eggsGTX 480 Super Overclocked GPU

Pros: This card has not failed me yet... I runs my 30+ games (Ex. Metro 2033, BFBC2, CoD:BO, Crysis, etc.) on the absolute highest video settings with no signs of lag. I've also used multiple benchmarking programs with this GPU and the card performs amazingly.

Cons: Only con that I have had while using this video card is probably because of my motherboard, but the card sometimes does not start with my system and I have to restart over and over until it does start. Not a big deal ...yet... (until my motherboard fries from all the restarts, lol).

Other Thoughts: This is an excellent card, I am very glad that I bought it.

5 out of 5 eggsgtx 480 soc or gtx 570?

Pros: The unit comes factory overclocked, tested to work stable at those speeds. Custom heatsink design is a vapor chamber, similar to the gtx 500 series and temperatures are very good and quiet compared to reference gtx 480 design. Most review sites have this card benchmarked to be faster than a stock gtx 570 and 5% slower than a gtx 580 at its factory OC'd settings.

Cons: The heatsink design is great, but it does exhaust heat inside the tower. It would had been preferable if it had a blower style exhaust. Single card setup with good ventilated tower makes this a non-issue, but makes you think twice about an SLi setup. This card has also been reviewed to have slightly higher power consumption than a gtx 580.

Other Thoughts: It all comes down to the price vs performance, if you don't want to overclock the unit yourself and can purchase this unit for near the same price of a gtx 570, it's a great deal. Also, I noticed the same model Gigabyte gtx 480 soc can come with different factory voltage settings. I've seen it as high as 1.05v to 1.037v to as low as 1.012v for different cards of the same model. I suppose this could affect the potential additional overclocking headroom each card has.

1 out of 5 eggsExtremely disappointed in GIGABYTE

Pros: The pros don't matter if the card doesn't work - simple as that.

Cons: My card started artifacting just a little over a week since putting it in my system. It started getting real noticeable while playing more demanding games like Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Just Cause 2.

Other Thoughts: There's simply no excuse for this - it's an enthusiast-grade card for crying out loud! When you're paying more than $300 for one of these - especially the ones that are supposedly put through some kind of "GPU Gauntlet" to ensure that only the best ones are chosen - it's absolutely unacceptable that they let a card like this get through.

I hope I get one that actually works this time...

5 out of 5 eggssuper hottttt

Pros: runs metro 2033 maxed out dx11 with high frames (30+). Crysis is no contest and is maxed with no noticeable frame rate drop.

Cons: this thing gets hot. i mean nuclear meltdown hot. it's a good thing there are 3 fans on it. Still cant max out ARMA 2 and get anything higher than 8fps on benchmark 2.

Other Thoughts: just a heads up. be mindful that when this thing heats up the rest of whats inside the computer case will get warmer as well.

**runs in a
-core 2 quad 3.0ghz
-4 gig ddr3 1600
-xfx 790i

4 out of 5 eggsAWesome!

Pros: Looks beautiful, packaging fancy and great quality feel to it. Game dramaticlly improved a lot, were able to maxed out on everything I play. Mafia 2 is awesome!!!!
Surprisingly with all those fans, their not loud at all during gaming.

Cons: I can barely fitted into my case.
-still expensive even after $48 off during special promo.

Other Thoughts: I hope this will not died out on me for another year or so.
