4 out of 5 eggsdecent while it lasted

Pros: -ran games well most of the time (at 1440p)
-good price/performance compared to nvidia at the time of purchase

Cons: -died after a year and a half of ownership
-coil whine
-drivers (everything about them)
-many recent games do not support crossfire

Other Thoughts: this card served me well, but in the future I plan to only buy singe gpu cards, devs just don't support crossfire very well anymore.
I am trying to an RMA now under Gigabyte's 3 year warranty, hopefully that pans out.

3 out of 5 eggsCoil Whine and A Black Screen

Pros: good when it works

Cons: i just got this 3 days ago.
now i'm getting a effin blackscreen and a very noisy coil whine..rma again!!

Other Thoughts: this is my 3rd rma..1st a defective 290x, then a 290(both have no video signal!!!!) and now this!!! I thought everything is good to go now..unfortunately..after 3 days and a couple of rendering and games..i hear a coil fact it is so sensitive that it whine accrndingly to the rendering and during games.

5 out of 5 eggsGigabyte 7990

Pros: Finally some excellent results. BF4 I have it running with the 13.11 Beta 7 drivers exceptionally well. All Ultra settings, in game resolution scaling set to 150%. I'm using 1920 X 1080 60mhz refresh. Pulling max 80- 90fps.Mind you if I set scaling to 100% I get 100fps+. BF4 is a beautiful thing with this card. Also did the CPU Core Park unlock and the game is BUTTER. A pleasure, the most fluent gaming experience on PC I have ever had. Eye Candy and smoothness, no micro stutter what so ever.

Cons: The Slightest of coil whines, but not worth RMAing. If it gets worse, Gigabyte has an excellent RMA process. Need to up the PSU juice, had a few BSOD. nothing to do with Card itself.

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte HD 7990
W7 64 Bit Ultimate
i7 930 at 2.8ghz
48 GB Ram
Generic 1366 Socket MB
750w PSU

You will need a good psu to power this thing.

5 out of 5 eggsGigabyte 7990

Pros: Runs BF3 Ultra everything - 1920 X 1080 27" - anywhere depending on action between 60 - 200fps. Its a beast, quite nice coming from my 5970.

Cons: Any new driver other than 13.6 Beta 2 = Bad frames and weird GPU activity. Not the cards problem, driver issues. This has been my experience, but I have noted 13.8 Beta 2 as also successful for some. The newer drivers have caused one GPU to be at 100% load at idle or not work at all. Drivers for BF4 were not good. Crossfire wasn't enabled, so basically it was a 7970. BUT of note, ran at Ultra everything and FPS ranged between 30 - 75fps.

Other Thoughts: To keep the card at an a "gaming" temp range - I set the Fans to AUTO - ran BF3 full tilt. Both GP-U's sat around 73 degrees - 75% fan running for both. Loud for me, cause I was testing with the tower door off. Close the case and its quite Audible, no different than my Dell 1U server sitting here idling.

5 out of 5 eggsGigabyte 7990

Pros: Fastest Single GPU Card on the Market. Yes its a dual GPU configuration on one card. Having run a 5970 and reading and seeing reviews on this cards capabilities and price, I couldn't refuse.

I have had Gigabyte card before that failed, BUT their Customer service on RMA is Outstanding, hence my decision to go with them again this time.

Ready for BF4, starting with the BETA next Tuesday.

Cons: N/A at this time.

Other Thoughts: Upgrading from a 5970 which is now 4 years old that has served me well, even through BF3. Was worried about BF4 GPU requirements and wanted to ensure I was ok, even though the new AMD GPU's are right around the corner. Couldn't see a down side when compared to performance and price V's a GTX 780.

Will review again after testing extensively with BF3 and BF4.

5 out of 5 eggsMicro stutter gone!

Pros: Great performance. Skyrim at max settings on three 144hz monitors screams!
6GB video ram does improve performance on many games and applications.
Latest 13.8 beta driver from AMD website are a MUST and greatly increase the awesomeness of these cards.

Cons: Somewhat hot, 70 degrees plus can be expected. Water blocks are recommended. Fewer free accessories than other brands of 7990. You will likely need to invest in addition adapters. Look at the main product page pictures to see what comes in the box.

Other Thoughts: If you have problems getting the 8 free games, the best solution is to contact AMD directly at

2 out of 5 eggsa let down

Pros: 1. Dual GPUs
2. 8 free triple A game bundle
3. price: purchased for $620

Cons: first of all: GPU bios is newest beta 13.10 as of (9/12/2013) and I experienced no micro stuttering in World of warcraft and BF3.
1.Hot! : Much Much hotter than my GTX 770. My GTX 770 stayed always cool even after long gaming session. my
2. because of heat, fans stay at high RPM even at 80% fan speed GPUs stay about 60C.
3. length: this card is long folks. it barely fits in my Phantom 630 with about half inch to spare.

4. Power hungry: This thing at Game load draws about 600W.
5. Game coupon did not come with the Card: Gigabyte customer service is in the process of trying to rectify the issue. However, she didn't guarantee that I will get the game coupon code for 8 free games like Newegg advertised.
6. because the game I play(wow) probably doesn't take advantage of the multiple GPUs set up even though I've seen graphs that contradict that claim. I see zero to slight frame rate improvement over my single GTX 770 in certain maps.

Other Thoughts: If I don't get the 8 free games coupon, I will be returning the card. Newegg has intervene an after sale issue between me and the OEM before and I hope they do the same thing here. Gigabyte customer service acknowledges that she sees the sales web page advertising 8 free games with the sale of this GPU yet she said she has to "further look into the matter" . i'm not happy at all with Gigabyte. I will be doing another review if Gigabyte doesn't come through with my free games.

2 out of 5 eggsBetter to get two 7970s or a Titan

Pros: It's fast, and you can cram two 7970s into a dual slot configuration making quad-fire a real possibility.

Cons: For a card priced this high, you would think they would include a Mini DP to DVI AND an Mini DP to HDMI. You can't eyefinity out of the box, and at this premium, you should be able to. Also this card runs HOT, in my Level 10 GT case with max fans, 78F ambient temp, I can easily get this card to hit 101C while doing any sort of GPU-compute operations. Gaming it runs around 85-90C. Oh, and the fans are quite noisy at this level. On par with the 6990. Gaming without crossfire (one GPU doing nothing) the temps will be in the mid 70s.

Crossfire still lacks decent drivers. Screen tear/micro stutter ruin the experience for games like Guild Wars 2 and are pretty apparent in even Grid 2. I thought their integrated PCIX bridge was suppose to minimize this issue, but its just about as bad with running normal 7970 crossfire. (haven't had a chance to tri a tri-fire configuration due to lack of a PSU powerful enough atm. Hopefully they will get crossfire microstutter ironed out in drivers, but for now, play without the reason you get this card. Oh wait, you CAN'T disable crossfire (catalyst 13.4) so you have to take advantage of another crossfire weakness, run games in full screen windowed mode, no crossfire support there (yet).

Other Thoughts: I really thought the temps would be lower. Asus probably got it right with the Aires II and its water block solution. Again, I can't help but feel ripped because of the lack of a proper set of dongles for Mini DP. I get that these cards use Mini DP to cram all the ports in such a small space, but come on, the format is NOT used anywhere. Even DP monitors need a mini to fat DP adapters.
