Great Card for the Price
- Pros: I have a Dell 8400 3.6 pentium III purchased in 2004 with an ATI 800 XT 128 mg. I finally purchased Bioshock installed it and the shading did not work. Game continually crashed. Found this card, installed it in 10 minutes, downloaded the NVIDIA drivers and was playing Bioshock flawlessly in 30 minutes. Ordering, installation, driver dowload was pretty simple. The heat sink is huge, so you better have some room. The card does not have a fan, so there is no noice associated with it. If you are looking for an inexpensive upgrade to your old computer, this is the card. NewEgg has convinced me this is the site to purchase all of my computer / electronics needs.
- Cons: Nothing found so far. I have only had the card one day.
good card, but very bulky
- Pros: Quiet, powerful. I selected the card as the most powerful Nvidia model that has both dual-DVI outputs AND non-fan passive cooling only.
- Cons: Runs a little warm, very very bulky.
- Other Thoughts: I bought this card to replace a MSI 7600 in a system that is always powered up, hoping to quiet it down a bit.
The new card is completely silent, as hoped. However, it is MASSIVE and will not fit in many systems. It will likely not fit in a system with a tight micro-ATX mainboard. Under non-gaming load, but driving two large DVI-attached displays, the system remains modestly cool. My MSI 7600 (w/fan) usually measured 49-53C, this card (a more powerful GPU) measures 53-55C. If I wanted, I could turn my system fan up (which defeats the quiet intention) but that lowers the this GPU's temperature to 51C.
None of the vendor photos show the heatsink at an angle to show that it's notably thicker than the rest of the card assembly. This could be called a two-slot design by virtue of its size.
The heatsink assembly is attached to the GPU by copper heat conduits and sits "above" the card in a normal right-side-up tower configuration.
Great card, when it fits in your case
- Pros: Excellent performance in its class. Absolutely quiet (of course) with no fan.
- Cons: I recently moved this card into a horizontal HTPC case and the copper heat pipes make it impossible to close the case all the way.
- Other Thoughts: Highly recommended if you have room in your case, just be warned that it won't fit in every situation.
