5 out of 5 eggsExceptional Video Card

Pros: Have to admit that I was not too sure about this MSI card, but it turns out to be one of the best I have seen and used in some time. The quality and attention to detail as well as the seamless operation of this card speak for itself. I'm using it to test Win. 10 and run games, make large graphics, watch videos in High Def. this thing just chugs along without once skipping, slowing down or having a moment when the screen blanks out. It works prefectly.

Cons: The only down side is not with the drivers but the software that comes with it, while they work it just does not compare with what you would get with Asus. Never the less the software works, if you need or want to pull out all the stops and turn your system into a foot warmer.

Other Thoughts: This card presently is resides in an AMD system with an Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0, 8 Gigs of G. Skill memory Sound Blaster sound card. If your looking for a perfectly balanced and well behaved vedio card this one does the trick.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Card, but at what cost?

Pros: Highest end graphics game I ever played was The Witcher 3, and this card can run the game at Ultra settings and runs at a pretty smooth frame rate at almost 60 fps.

Cons: Will cause your computer to crash on multiple occasions. I had this card for only one month and each day it will crash at least three times. I tried searching for solutions online and most of them offered no solid answers. What I did learn was that this card is actually known to cause computer crashes, as said by the other reviews you can see on this page. Before the first month was over I returned the card and looked for a new one.

Other Thoughts: At the time of writing this review, the card is out of stock and I'm pretty sure the reason is because of the card causing crashes. The price is not worth the computer crashes. I don't recommend it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card!

Pros: Super cool and Quite for me. Seems pretty fast, around GTX 760ti speeds for a Nvidia Card. Fits in my HAF 912 Case easy. Plays most games like GW2, WOW, PoE, StarWars and Tera in Ultra or very high settings and I get fluid 60+ fps.

Cons: Did not help much in the game I play most which is Second Life but it has a very old engine. Sadly it does not let me run 3 monitors if I have 2 plugged into the DVI slots. However with a DP adapter I can run 3 monitors. 1 in the DP slot with an adapter (DP-VGA) 1 in the DVI slot and 1 in the HDMI slot. Apparently you can run a total of 6 monitors with this card with special adapters.

Other Thoughts: I've only owned the card and had it running for about 2 days now but it overclocks very easy. I got mine running at 1195 MHz core speed and 1495 Memory Speed with about a 2% increase in power. Stays below 63c at full load. -Newegg had it to me in 3 days with free shipping! Can't beat that!

1 out of 5 eggsFail and disappointment

Pros: The card works well in games. however, i get at least one black screen or gray screen of death while watching online video services. Tried silverlight troubleshoot, new power supply, reinstall driver, etc. Had no issues with previous AMD card which this replaced. Very disappointed in MSI since i paid a bit more for the brand and quality. search the web. the R9 series cards have similar issues. There are many fixes but why should a normal user fix a brand new card to run everyday tasks like watching movies.

Cons: random black screen; stability in 2D applications

Other Thoughts: I may have to RMA the card through MSI since i already sent the rebate and can't RMA through Newegg. Overall, not satisfied with this purchase. It's 2015. please fix this issue. By the way, RMA through MSI is confusing because the system asks you to wait for a confirmation email with instruction but surprise NO confirmation email!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Ensure you have update drivers for your video card and motherboard for best results.
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. If possible verify the video card on another working system.
4. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

Best Regards,

3 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work right

Pros: The first few weeks was great. Ran really good on games.

Cons: After the first month, the card blue screen a lot. I formatted my computers a few times to try to fix it. Stopped using it after formatting the computer the 4th time. Just using my on board graphics for now. Have the card for like 2 1/2 - 3 months now.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat card when it works

Pros: Powerful card for the money. Paired with a i5 4690k and it plays all types of games (Insurgency, Civ 5, GTA V, etc.) very well.

Cons: Initially, I had problems with drivers despite my previous card being an AMD based card. Once I had the driver issue sorted out, games played great but I'd get artifacts in game every now and then but no crashing. Anything 2D, on the other hand, I have a lot of issues with. Chrome, especially with Flash player, likes to crash, giving me the typical black or gray screen of death and I have to reboot. I went through turning off hardware acceleration, but problems consisted. Chrome isn't the only problem, as even the Windows screen saver can trigger a crash (just tried to remote in and lo-and-behold, it must of crashed this morning when I went to work). I tried the Beta drivers from AMD... I've tried the drivers supplied from MSI... I've tried installing just the base video driver, no Catalyst, no HDMI sound support... clean install of Windows 8.1... nothing remedies the problem. This system was up and running for almost 4 months before I bought the card and I had no issues but I went through using MemTest and Furmark for diagnostics and both performed without issue. I used to have the system stability to be up and running for weeks on end. Now I'm lucky if I can keep the machine up and running for 24 hours

Other Thoughts: I know the R9 cards were plagued with issues early on, but it's 2015 and the fact that issues still exist says A LOT about AMD and how serious they are about being a real competitor to nVidia. I want to RMA this card for a new one, but this will probably be the last AMD card I get.

4 out of 5 eggsThe Hedgehog & Windy

Pros: Plays Battlefield Hardline butter smooth and looks beautiful, as well as BF3&4, paired with a 4690k OC'd gently to 4.3Ghz . Great bang for the buck, got it for $165. Yes its architecture is a little older but very solid performer, think Ron Jeremy. Not looking past 1080p gaming .Big upgrade from GTX 550 on my old system. Like the yellow trim, MSI Afterburner can be used for overclocking and the card has 3 separate voltage check points if you into super crazy overclocking/tweaking.

Cons: You need MSI Afterburner to keep it cool when gaming. I'm not sure why but my cards fans don't ramp up when gaming/heavy load. they stay at idle of ~30% no matter what! At first i thought this card naturally ran HOT to the touch. When I installed it in my old rig for testing, heat would pour out of my PC. This had me concerned as it happened again with my new system. Once I installed MSI Afterburner I discovered the fans need to forced to 60-75% in the software. The temps dropped from 80C to mid-30's under heavy load. It could have definitely damaged my 270X if it was left to cook at 80C, think Wendy from Breaking Bad. Not a lot of yellow peripherals out the to match its color trim.

Other Thoughts: BLUE LED's, lots of them! Be aware there are many blue LED's on this card. One on each fan, and a stripe of them on the back plate by the edge nearest to the video outputs. One set stays on constantly like a heart beat/OK monitor, the others seem to convey HDD activity when loading a game, they go solid as a game loads completely. Not sure that is accurate but what i have noticed. A set blinks rapidly when streaming video, could be decoding or network activity. have not noticed this with standard web browsing.

3 out of 5 eggsOverheating issue

Pros: 2 Fans, Works great When not gaming.

Cons: I bought it to use for gaming which it does great for a few minutes but after about 30 mins in game it gets extremely hot and freezes my system even when power to the fans is turned up to 100%.
